RUMOR: Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 FE lens is coming this autumn

Image on top shows the front of the current Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 Canon EF lens

The same sources whom shared all the correct info about Sigma lenses confirmed that Sigma has decided to postpone the 70-200mm f/2.8 FE lens launch to autumn 2020. One of the sources says the reason has to do with Sigma trying to improve the autofocus algorithm. This works very good on prime lenses but is said to not be flawless on zoom lenses. They need time to improve it.

Sony’s smallest and cheapest Full Frame camera is coming in mid September (named A5 or A6?)

rendering of a possible A5 camera (Yukai)

I am 99,9999999% sure that in mid September we will get a new Sony Full Frame E-mount camera. The only reason I am not 100% sure is because Covid-19 may mes the timeframe again if things get worse.

This camera will be something special: The first of a completely new line of cameras! It will become Sony’s new Full Frame entry line and this is what we know so far about this camera:

FACTS (What we know from the Sony Taiwan official registration):

  • Battery is NP-FZ100,
  • USB is Type-C.
  • it has a single SD card slot
  • It has both a mic-in and a headphone jack
  • Wi-Fi (11a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth

SOLID RUMORS: This is what I know so far about this model from TRUSTED sources:

  • It’s a new Full Frame E-mount camera
  • It’s an entry level model
  • It’s something COMPLETELY new in the lineup (no A7 or A9) model.
  • I don’t have confirmation on the name yet but I suspect it will be named A5 or A6
  • Announcement around mid September (if Covid19 doesn’t mess this up)

UNCONFIRMED: This is what we I heard from new sources (unreliable yet):

  • It has no EVF
  • very compact A6xxx kind of size
  • price around $1,000 (which makes it the cheapest “new” camera in the lineup). Of course the first generation A7 and A7II are priced below $,1000 but they weren’t that cheap when first announced.

Why is this camera HOT?
This will be the ultimate Sony FF camera to carry always with you. It will also attract plenty of new customers that might not be able to pay for the A7III. I am definitely going to buy this on!

Just a small warning, with all that convid-19 mess the announcement date might change like it did happen with the A7sIII (which was supposed ot be announced in June and not July).

Sony registered another new E-mount camera in Taiwan: Probably the new A5-A6 camera!

Sony registered another new camera in Asia!

Nokishita reports:

Sony’s interchangeable lens camera “WW850128” has also been registered at Taiwan NCC. Equipped with Wi-Fi (11a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth. Battery is NP-FZ100, USB is Type-C. A single card slot is equipped with an SD card for certification testing.

This is very likely going to be the new Sony A5-A6 camera that I told you would come as next!

Possible leaked spec sheet of the new Sony 43MP 8K APS-C sensor!

A7000 rendering

It would be about time for Sony to launch a proper High End model A7000 camera to compete against the Fuji X-T line. I know it’s unlikely this will happen :( but at least we might know Sony now has a sensor for this!

The IMX671AQR specs sheet leaked out. The APS-C sensor has 43MP and records 8K 12bit video too! It also has stacked DRAM and up to 16 bit depth for stills images:

Now dear Sony, would you listen to our community and make such a high end APS-C camera? :)

Tamron says it will launch THREE new lenses this year!

Tamron released their full financial report. And within the document they discloses they plan to launch THREE new lenses for mirrorless in 2020 beside the 20mm FE and 70-180mm FE. No specs have been shared but we can safely assume those are FE lenses (also because my sources tole me “many” FE lenses will be announced this year). Tamron is quite confident those lenses will sell well:

“With newly launched mirrorless models, the sales of own-brand models is expected to increase the sales compare to the previous year”

Moreover they report:

the backorders on the 17-28mm f/2.8 RXD (A046) are expected to be cleared by the end of this month

This means they might be ready to start the 70-180mm f/2.8 FE lens production. The lens pricing (and preorder) is likely to be announced on February 27.

So what are the three lenses you wish to get from Tamron? Drop your ideas in the comment system!

RUMOR: Yes! Sony new 12-24mm f/2.8 GM lens will be on market this summer!!!

This is a rumor confirmed by two long time reliable sources!!!
Sony will launch a new 12-24mm f/2.8 GM lens. It will be on market by Summer 2020
This lens would be 2mm wider than the current Sigma 14-24mm FE and probably 2x the price :) No seriously, I hope Sony will be more reasonable with pricing this time! While I am sure the lens will be shipping this summer it’s unclear yet when exactly Sony will announce the lens. UPDATE: Likely coming at Photokina?
One more thing: Before that lens we likely will get other new FE lens announcement. Stay tuned!!!

2020 rumors summary:

This is what Sony said about the future A7sIII: It will have 4k60p and 10bit 4:2:2 and exceed expectations!

I keep reading comments on the web saying Sony might not release the new A7sIII at all. Don’t worry folks it is coming this year! And if you still are worried keep in mind that Sony confirmed this multiple times ( Statement 1, Statement 2, Statement 3).

This is what the A7sIII will be according to Sony:

  • Definitely at least “4K/60, 10-bit 4:2:2″
  • Some features will go “beyond the expectations”
  • And “of course more battery power, increased AF accuracy – many things!”

So this is what Sony stated over and over again. The A7sII successor is coming this year and my personal guess is that we might see it at the NABshow in April.

As far as rumors go…

This is the little I got from one reliable source who saw the prototype:

  • The prototype camera recorder 4k120p (and had no 8K recording)
  • The prototype camera was much thicker and had a cooling vent
  • Same kind of A9II improvements (AF, build quality, weather sealing)

So that’s it about the A7sII successor. Now let’s hope Sony really delivers the BIG promise they made!

– Sigma is going to launch a new 70-200mm f/2.8 FE lens
