Debunking A7rII myths? No real improvement on M-mount lenses. Image quality on par with the usual cams (D810 and so).

The first wave of enthusiastic A7rII reviews is over. Now let’s jump into more detailed testing made by two famous reviewers:

1) Sensor performance on par with other cameras:
On the video above Tony Northup compared the new Sony A7rII vs the 5DS-R, D810, GH4, a7 II & a7S. In his testings the A7rII doesn’t show any Dynamic Range or resolution advantage over the Nikon D810 camera. At Low ISO Nikon and Sony are on par with a slight edge in favour of the Nikon because of super clean 64 ISO setting the Sony doesn’t have. But where the A7rII beats the ass out of the competition is the on sensor stabilization. When it comes to Handheld shooting the A7rII clearly is by far the best camera form the bunch!
In Short: On the “pure” image sensor level there is little improvement. But on a “real-world-handheld-shooting” level the A7rII is way better than the competition.

2) No visible improvement with M-mount lenses:
Diglloyd tested M-mount lenses on the A7rII and writes:

The internet is abuzz with claims from those who think that the laws of optics have been repealed for the Sony A7R II, just because it has a new sensor. These claims seem to be based on seeing less color shading, but this has always varied by sensor (magenta with some Sony sensors, green with others). Better neutrality is good, but it’s silly to think this means a whole lot. Sony cannot change the thickness of the sensor cover glass without altering the optical path, and this would wreak havoc on image quality with lenses designed for it.
The sharpness losses outside a small central area are severe, just as expected, very badly blurred/smeared over most of the frame.

As you have seen sometimes reviewers feedback do not match. 3D-Kraft and Bat (leicaboss.com) noticed and improvement on M-mount lenses. Diglloyd is not. This is just a reminder that every review you read is not a 100% perfect fact.
