(SR2) Couple of new RX100mV rumors. Switching to UFS cards?

Share

UFS
I got two new info about the possible next RX100mV launch. Particularly the second source shared some great info:

Source 1:

“the RX100 mark V will announced once the Kumamoto fab is fully operational and putting out the necessary newly designed sensors”

Source 2:

“The new compact and high speed Sony camera (RX100 V) will switch from SD Card to UFS Card storage. The card size is similar to microSD saveing space in the camera body and the speed increased to up to 600MB/s enabling longer slowmo Videos and higher FPS shooting. Sony will if this is succesful also use this format in future higher class cameras”

Androidauthority just recently wrote an article highlighting the advantages of the new UFS cards. Of course there is the smaller size compared to SD cards. But the UFS cards are also much faster and do consume less energy:

Fast

That would be really a smart move from Sony!

Lensrentals: The new Zeiss 50mm FE lens beats the Zeiss Otus in center sharpness!!!

Zeiss 50mm FE (left) vs Zeiss Otus 55mm (right). Image via Lensrentals.

Lensrentals (Click here) tested the new Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 FE lens. And they compared it with the best lens of the world, the 55mm Zeiss Otus. The results is absolutely impressive:

“The Sony is phenomenally good in the center; just absolutely superb. The Sony, though, is clearly better than the Otus in the center, and just as good as the Otus away from the center as well. There is a little sag of the Sony’s MTF halfway to the center but then improvement out to the edges.”

So far the new Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 FE lens didn’t get a lot of “Love”comments from SAR readers. The price may have created some emotional “barrier”. But now that you get that kind of feedback from Lensrentals things will change. A Zeiss Otus alike quality for almost a third of the lens and with autofocus? Now it starts to sound like a bargain :)  Lensrentals writes:

“it’s worth the money; it’s really superb. The center sharpness in particular is unheard of in a 50mm lens.”

Sony will resupply stores with Sony A7 camera in September only!

Share

Sony-A7

Two of the out of Stock warnings by WexUK and Fotomundus.

I talked to a couple of EU stores. And they confirm that all Sony A7 series cameras are now in short supply. Sony told them that they will be able to resupply by September only! I am not sure about the situation in USA and Asia yet but I expect to see the same kind of supply issues too.

So if you plan to buy a new A7 camera I suggest you to pull the trigger now before it’s too late!

Samyang announces the new XEEN 135mm T2.2 E-mount lens!

Share

Xeen-135mm

Samyang announced the first of the five new lenses that will be announced the coming five weeks. All lenses will be available in five different mounts. Today they released the 135mm T/2.2 XEEN Cine lens. More info can be found at samyanglensglobal.com/product/detail.do?SQ=46. And this is the press text:

July 18th, 2016, Seoul, Korea

The global optics brand, Samyang Optics (http://www.samyanglensglobal.com) announced the release of XEEN 135mm T2.2. Along with the existing five lenses of 14mm T3.1, 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5, XEEN 135mm T2.2 offers outstanding image quality from resolving power for 4K+ production for filming video and cinema.

XEEN is a specialized brand in professional video-cine lens launched by Samyang Optics in 2015. The XEEN lenses are designed with Samyang Optics’ know-how and have outstanding optical performance for 4K+ with the X-Coating Technology, ensuring maximum image quality to create a cinematic look.

The 24mm x 36mm negative size allows XEEN to not only work with full frame cameras, but also with Super 35, APS-C and APS-H cameras. The lenses are available in five different mounts – PL, EF, F, E, and MFT and two different focus scales – metric and imperial units. Also, the aluminium metal housing is known for its reliability in various shooting conditions.

The new XEEN 135mm adds telephoto angle to the existing XEEN set, enabling to capture the sincere emotions and details of characters in films and videos. Also the bright T2.2 offers high quality footage with clear contrast and impressive colors, even under less-than-optimal lighting conditions. The large aperture also creates a pleasing bokeh effect for a cinematic look.

Moreover, Samyang has announced to release a total of five lenses throughout five weeks as a 2016 Summer Samyang Blockbuster campaign starting from XEEN 135mm. The other four lenses will be announced on every Monday from July 25th to August 15th.

Created to deliver infinite possibilities, XEEN 135mm T2.2 will be globally available in August. The recommended retail price of each lens is EUR 2,200. More detailed product information is available on the official website (http://www.xeenglobal.com) and Facebook (http://www.facebook. com/xeenglobal) or Samyang Lens Global Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/samyanglensglobal).
