Now on preorder: New Elinchrom EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS for Sony!

Share

Elinchrom

The new  Elinchrom EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS for Sony can now be preordered at BHphoto (Click here). it will ship on July 7.

John Wilhelm tested the Skyport Plus HS and two ELB400 HS with the Sony A7rII. He used the Elinchrom to “freeze something fast in action”. If you check out his website you will see the interesting effect created with the new tool. His verdict is:

“It works, it rocks, it’s easy to handle, it is flawless in my opinion. If you’re looking for a great flash system just go for the Elinchrom HS stuff. Swiss quality ;)”

Kumamoto rumor roadmap change and Sony A9 confirmations….

Shipment

Newly published CIPA data confirms the camera shipment fall after the Kumamoto earthquake (PDF file here).

It’s already difficult to write reliable rumors in regular times. Now this year it’s even harder because of the Kumamoto earthquake consequences. Sony had to rework the entire product launch roadmap for 2016. So this is a brief list of info I can tell you right now:

  1. Sony had a planed product announcement event for June. New RX and new entry level A5xxx was likely to be introduced. It’s not clear yet if Sony will not launch those at Photokina….
  2. I confirm via highly trusted sources the new high end Sony camera is still on the roadmap for launch this year. We call the camera “Sony A9” but it’s not 100% sure this is the very final exact name. Anyway, the info comes via the same sources wh shared the correct RX1rII and GM lens specs (we posted those rumors (link1, link2) many months ahead of the respective product announcement).
  3. New A7 series cameras will come in 2017
  4. New GM, Batis and Loxia lenses will be announced at Photokina.

In those days I got also rumors from anonymous and unknown sources. I ask those sources to be patient. I will try to verify their info before to post them on SAR. And If I can’t do that I will post them as low ranked SR2 rumors sometimes later…

First Kerlee 35mm f/1.2 FE Lens Review by ePhotozine: “outstanding central sharpness and beautiful bokeh”

Share

Kerlee

ePhotozine (Click here) is the first site posting the review of the new Kerlee 35mm f/1.2 FE lens:

This is a fine lens, well made, with outstanding central performance. It suffers at the edges, although to be fair, when not photographing lens charts, which are flat of course, the real world results are very satisfactory. Sharpness is not really the main drawback, just a tendency to flare and quite a bit of CA at the edges. The very bright f/1.2 aperture is unique and may well be very useful in low light and for shallow depth of field effects. The bokeh is lovely and smooth.
In summary, a lens that can be used to make beautiful images, but do watch that flare.

Note: Photo By Richard tested the same lens but with Nikon F-mount.

Correction on the Eric Naso A6300 overheating article

Share

eric

Dear SAR readers. Yesterday I posted a link to Eric’ Naso’s article about the A6300 overheating issue. I wrote the post last week before I started my vacation with my family and did schedule the article to be posted yesterday (personal note: This is my first real vacation in years).

Now shit happened and Eric further tested his claims and now came to another different conclusion that faster cards do not help the to solve the issue. He updated the post while I was offline. Of course some readers not knowing this situation claimed I am unprofessional. But this is just a stupid wrong coincidence:

This is the first original article from Eric I was referring too:  http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://eriknaso.com/2016/06/29/how-i-solved-the-a6300-overheating-issue-when-shooting-4k-video/.
And while is was busy travelling with my family (and had no internet connection) he changed it to this: http://eriknaso.com/2016/06/29/how-i-solved-the-a6300-overheating-issue-when-shooting-4k-video/

Thanks SAR readers and Eric for your understanding. Wish you all a nice vacation of you have (or going to have) one ;)

First note: For those who still don’t know me. This is not a “professional” site. There isn’t a bunch of writers paid through direct company advertisement. There is just me… :=)

As a second note: I am a bit upset by some of the commenters who accused me of being unprofessional. Why? Because they knew that the article got updated and they didn’t simply gently ask me if I noticed the article got updated. As a polite person should wonder before to spread shit on the comment system :)
