(SR3) New QX camera with 30x zoom coming?

Share

Short break from “regular” Alpha Camera rumors. An unknown source (Thanks!) told me that Sony will soon release a new QX camera model featuring an impressive 30x zoom! More important, I hope the new Sony will fix the (many) quirks of the current QX series which are mainly caused by the poor software.

If you think this idea is a joke stop now. Sony reported a while ago that the QX lenses sold very well…

New Sony A7s test and video roundup!

Next A7s silent shutter test

SAR reader AbortAbort posted his A7s impressions on Dpreview Forum. He will buy the camera and writes why:

In my view A7S is by far the best A7 series camera yet. The others are amazing and if you need resolution there is no comparison, but the fast AF in almost any light, the files that need far less work, the (relatively) slow lenses to keep the system small, the completely silent (and seemingly) very usable electronic shutter mode, the smaller files sizes (bigger buffer, faster processing, less storage), cleaner EVF and better video make all make it more than worthwhile for me… and I haven’t spoken about the

More new A7s tests:
4K video once (which most seem to think is the only selling point of this camera).

Sony A7s test at Luminous Landscape: “produces some of the cleanest, most pleasant images I’ve seen”

Share

Michael Reichmann from Luminous Landscape (Click here) posted his Sony A7s first impression review. Here are just some of his key considerations:

– I have to say that the Sony A7s produces some of the cleanest, most pleasant images I’ve seen this side of a medium format system.
– On the basis of these tests I would judge the A7s to have almost a three stop advantage over the A7r between ISO 6,400 (which is as high as I would use on the A7r)  and ISO 51,200 where the A7s reaches its useful limit (for my type of shooting).
– My biggest beef, already mentioned, is that Sony forgot to allow Silent Mode / Electronic Shutter to be available as a custom function.
– Otherwise, the A7s has all of the goodness as well as minor flaws of its predecessors.
– My parting thought is that the A7s is neither the holy grail of cameras, nor a whimsical outlier. It’s going to take a special photographer with keen image perception to appreciate what the A7s has to offer. Thanks Sony, for catering to more than the lowest common denominator.

Sony says “We are ready” to produce curved sensors on mass scale.

Share

The image of this Sony curved sensor created quite a buzz but some people argued that this tech may not coming any time soon. Well this is wrong. Sony already made a first mass production run and realized 100 sensors. Sony device manager Itonaga said it clearly: “We are ready“.

And as we shared  before. The first lens coming along this sensor will be the 35mm f/1.8 Zeiss (Source SAR):

Sigma 50mm ART for Sony said to ship between “2-5 months” only.

Sigma still didn’t tell us when they will ship the amazing 50mm ART lens for Sony. But today Amazon US gave us a very vague update and says it will ship it within 2-5 months :( The A-mount lens can be preordered in USA Amazon (Click here) at BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here). And in Europe at WexUK (Click here) and WexDe (Click here).

Hot reminder: $800 off(!!!) on the Sony E-mount double Touit lens kit at Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). Ends today!

SLRgear review: “Sony 16-70mm Zeiss is an excellent walkaround lens”.

Share

As you know there is a great $350 off on the A6000 with Zeiss 16-70mm lens kit at BHphoto. You get it in Black (Click here) or Silver (Click here). And there is an even greater deal at Cameta (Click here) where you get 8 free extras too!

But how good is the Zeiss lens? SLRgear (Click here) just posted the lens test results and writes:

For Sony shooters using APS-C E-mount cameras, the Sony E 16-70mm ƒ/4 Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* ZA OSS lens is a very versatile, lightweight, well-built lens with good image quality. The images are quite sharp, even wide open, and the autofocus performance is excellent. The Sony 16-70mm Zeiss is an excellent walkaround lens.
