Announced: The yet tiniest third party FF lens for your A7/s/r camera!

[shoplink 36037 ebay]Bildschirmfoto 2015-04-30 um 16.24.47[/shoplink]

The eccentric Japanese Lens designer Mr. Miyazaki just released the new [shoplink 36037 ebay]MS-Optical Perar 21 mm f/4,5 MC Super Wide Triplet lens[/shoplink]. And the extraordinary thing of the lens is that it is only 5,2mm thick and weights 42g! It’s smaller than the [shoplink 34266 ebay]M to E-mount adapter[/shoplink] you will have to use on your E-mount camera. This makes it likely the smallest and lightest third-party Full Frame(!) lens you can use on your A7 cameras. Instead of using a cap on your camera you can simply put that lens on it and the camera will be always “ready” for a quick shot.

You can see the very first image samples and buy the lens at [shoplink 36037 ebay]BreguetCamera on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

This is the third Perar lens from Mr. Miyazaki. The other two are the slightly thicker [shoplink 36038 ebay]24mm (here on eBay)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 36039 ebay]28mm (here on eBay)[/shoplink] lenses.

Diglloyd posts the full Batis MTF graphs. “(85mm Batis) Has outstanding micro contrast no less good than the very best Leica M lens”

Share

Zeiss_Batis_mtf_graph

Quick note for Germans: Since today you can preorder the Batis lenses at Amazon: 85mm (Click here) and 25mm (Click here).

Digglloyd is the first site publishing the full graph of the new Batis lenses! Links:
Batis 85mm MTF at Diggloyd.
Batis 25mm MTF at Diggloyd.

Here are some of his early conclusions:

BATIS 85mm:
– Overall contrast is superb wide open, even into the corners.
– Stopping down a bit more delivers outstanding micro contrast at f/5.6, far exceeding most lenses and no less good than the very best Leica M lens.
Has some pincushion distortion. Seems that distortion was traded off for uniformly high sharpness and a smaller/lighter design, knowing that the camera can correct for it automatically (or the raw converter).

BATIS 25mm:
– Modest micro contrast at f/2. However, overall contrast is superb wide open, even into the corners, and that very high overall contrast is critical to visual impact of the image.
– Most notable, the performance is exceptionally uniform at all apertures from center to corner. This is highly unusual for a 25mm lens.

Both lenses are now available for preorder in USA and Europe (UK/Germany)

(SR3) Did Zeiss just “leak” the Sony A7rII with 56+ Megapixel sensor?

Share

56Megapixel

Dear SAR readers, take a look at that image: flickr.com/photos/carlzeisslenses/17123880790/in/set-72157651844166820. Zeiss says it has been shot with the Sony A7r and the Batis 85mm lens. But notice two strange things:

1) The resolution of the image is 56 Megapixel (the image ratio is not 3:2. So it may be even slightly cropped form an original 59MP sensor image!).
2) The 56MP image has no camera name exif info (has been removed by Zeiss).

Now we have three possibilities:
1) Zeiss up-sized the images for some weird reason I cannot understand.
2) This is a A7II multishift created image (feature that will may be added in a future update). But it’s unlikely to be used on non-static objects and without tripod use (reflection in the eye shows photographer handholding the cam!).
3) Or they did shoot those images with the A7rII and then removed the EXIF info. What’s your guess?

The new A7rII is rumored to be announced between mid May and early June at last. Stay tuned on SAR!

(SR3) Few Sony A7rII info….has it a new RAW engine?

Share

A7r

An anonymous source sent me this:

“As far as I have understood it, the A7R II is still just 36MP, with IBIS, better ISO and speed. It will come with some other features, we’ve been told :)”

And another source also added that Sony is working on a new RAW engine. It could be implemented on the new A7rII.

The A7rII, A6100 and new RX cameras will be announced within mid May and end of June in (likely) separate announcements.

Magnus:I just saw the post about using the A7R as a sports camera and would like to share my experiences. I think it works great and regularly use my A7R with Sigma 70-200/2,8 and LA-EA4 adapter shooting floor hockey. It’s really not the fastest camera regarding auto focus and continous shooting but it works! For close up action I have my old A580 with Sony 16-50/2,8.
Here is a sample folder with pictures scaled to 4k (2160p height), most of them are ISO3200-6400:

This might be interesting too, It’s the same floor hockey team at the same arena shot with Tamron 150-600 and LA-EA4 adapter on my A7R. This combo sure gets waaay to close indoors but although its ISO6400 I think it works great:

Christian: “I got the opportunity to test my Sony NEX-5T in extreme conditions. I went for a 2:30 hour walk through the city and next to the Charles River. The temperatures were -24F (-31C) degrees with the windchill! I had to face a lot of wind when next to the Charles River, changing lenses was a challenge and quite risky for the sensor. The camera performed really well during this hike, I did not notice any change working in these temperatures. The screen, AF and battery worked perfectly well. Even if the grip is very small, I could still use it with my gloves but I must admit that it wasn’t very convenient. Against all odds, this little camera passed the extreme weather test!
