A personal note before the next rumor storm (NEX-FF, A-mount, RX and QX).

Share

The last four weeks have been very busy for me. First I had a vacation that I mostly spent on rumor work and now one week of busy time for the company I work for. I am writing this because you have to know that this is a website driven by one man only (me) who writes in a terrible english (my native language are German and Italian) and by using my limited free time. So if the articles were worse than usual know that I was terribly busy the last month.

The good news for you is that I “was” busy. Starting from tomorrow I will have more time to work on rumors and on more decently written articles :)
Today I will contact all my trusted sources to get some details on the NEX-FF, RX and A-mount rumor front. All I can tell you for now is that Sony is spending more effort than usual to keep the secret around the new NEX-FF and A-mount products. And this is a good sign, it means something very important is going to happen soon.

So stay tuned on SAR and remember, QX lenscameras are coming next week (Sept. 4). And major pro camera and lens release is expected in late September. Be ready for an exciting time on SAR

Three more notes:
– I do agree with you. The A99, NEX-7 firmware update is disappointing
– A trusted sources that shared the wrong A3000 in body IS info sent me the “official” excuses because of the mistake (he read the wrong data on the menu-manual). Apologies accepted ;)
– Thank to all people who donated the money necessary to cover the server upgrade (and extra bandwidth costs). Future donations are no more needed to cover these costs. But if you want you can donate for the next SonyAlphaRumors redesign that I plan to do in late 2013. In very short what I will do is to improve the comment system, article readability and include more visibility for readers articles.

Thanks!

P.S.: To be very honest…I was close to a burn out lately. I hope the SAR redesign will make it easier for SAR readers to write articles without my approval. So that I can rest soemtimes…

UPDATE: Lens Cameras to be named “EspressOn”? Niet says a source

Share

BGR (Click here) reports that the new QX lens series will be called “ExpressOn”. UDPATE: But a source just told me this isn’t correct. Literally the source said: “some idiot is mispronouncing the code name“. LOL :)

Reminder: Sony will soon launch two “lens-cameras”:
1) One is the “Lens-camera” with RX100MII sensor and  Zeiss lens ($750 here on Amazon). On the pictures it is the bigger lens. As you know the RX100 is the most praised high end compact camera and features a large 1 inch sensor which is the same size used by the Nikon 1 system. Now you can have that kind of Image Quality on your iPhone or Android Smartphone!
2) The second model will feature a 10xzoom lens with 1/2,3 inch 18 megapixel CMOS sensor (the image with the f/3,3-5.9 lens). It’s basically the same sensor and lens of the Sony WX150 ($400 on Amazon).

NEX-5T, A3000 and Zeiss 16-70mm preorder ranking at Amazon US.

Share

If you are curious to know how popular the new products are at Amazon US than you have to check out the following three rankings:

1) The Zeiss 16-70mm is on position 10 of the most sold lenses at Amazon US (Click here). It’s by far the most (pre-)ordered Sony Lens at Amazon!
2) The A3000 can be found at position 32 at Amazon’s DSLR ranking (Click here). Yep, it’s listed as DSLR camera and not as mirrorless!
2) Not really a top seller is the new NEX-5T which ranks 10th at the Mirrorless Camera ranking (Click here).

The ranking changes hourly and is based on the amount of orders and preorders. It’s not a scientific analysis but it gives us an idea of what’s hot and what’s not so hot. The Zeiss lens is selling fine as I rarely saw a Sony lens on the Top 10! The A3000 is also doing fine. And as expected the 5T isn’t really a hotseller.

New A3000, Zeiss Sony E PZ lens tests and image samples.

The product presentation video by SGNL

It is not usual to see so few image samples and test at a product launch. Luckily some small tests can be seen in Asia: The (Chinese?) site PCpop (google translation here) posted the first A3000 ISO test.  Sony Japan posted some image samples with the Zeiss lens (Click here to see) and the PZ lens (Click here to see). If you can find more tests and image samples drop me a message at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!

(SR4) QX100 to be priced at around $450 (lot cheaper than the RX100MII)

Share

I have just been told by one source that the QX100 lenscamera featuring the same RX100MII sensor and lens will be priced at around $450. That is $300 less than the price of the RX100MII camera ($748 here at Amazon).

And there is also a Tawian site (ePrice) sharing the price in NT currency:
QX100 = NT$14,900 = 370 EUR
QX10 = NT$6,900 = 170 EUR

At $450 this lens may be a good solution if you want the RX100MII quality for less!

Next announcement on September 4 (QX lenscameras and Honami Z1 smartphone)

Share

Next week (September 4) Sony will announce another bunch of new products. The Honami Smartphone with High Quality G lens and sensor. And the famous QX lenscamera series. A source had the chance to test the QX lenses on an iPad and writes:

both camera’s (QX10 and QX100) will connect to the smartphones via NFC and/or Wi-Fi for iOS devices. It works on all smartphones and every setting can be adjusted via the app with the Playmemories Mobile 3.0 app which I have tested as a beta.

I hope sources can soon tell me the price of these QX lenscameras. Thanks!

And one very big announcement could be made in late September for the NEX-FF (and maybe some A-mount news is coming too). More about that soon on SAR!
