(SR5) Updated: Firmware update document for NEX leaked!

“SilentMike” (a member of the German SystemKameraForum) seems to have found a document (on Sony’s websites???) that describes the new NEX firmware upgrade features. It will bring new art filters like (pop-art, toy-effect, retro-style,red-only filter, High-Key and more). And there is also a new feature that enhances the outline of in-focus ranges with a specific color.
UPDATE: This is the english version of the manual (http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/AE1T100111.pdf)
Thanks Kizu

3 years ago |Would have settled for the ability to turn off the TTL preflash and flash it manually, but this is cool too.
AlexH
3 years ago |If this turns out to be true, manual focus will become a blast!
OTTO
3 years ago |That’s in fact a feature perfect for all the manual lenses with adapters. I am curious, how the tolerances for defining “sharp” will be.
räven
3 years ago |If it’d work the same way as it does in capture one, it’ll be the most bad-ass camera atm.
OTTO
3 years ago |that’s funny, he did not recognize that he found a leak
But what is the NEX 5C ??
ty
3 years ago |Sweet!

3 years ago |I want to know the same thing. If it was the NEX 7 you think it would just say so?

3 years ago |Sony’s peaking was what taught me how to many focus on my first ever ‘prosumer’ point and shoot. Glad to have it back in my arsenal (assuming it makes the leap to the C3).
MrWoody
3 years ago |Oh my word. This is superb! Peaking!!
I either need to get my hands on decent new E-mount auto-focus lenses… or I need peaking so that using my manual-focus lenses doesn’t require awkward focus-magnification for every shot.
If this is genuine (which it certainly appears), it seems like Sony really are listening to feedback. Kudos to them.

3 years ago |It is definitely official, I just downloaded the same pdf in Italian from Sony support. There’s even an empty page about a Nex-3C.
Irfan
3 years ago |Nex-3C and Nex-5C are just regular Nex models that can’t do Eye-Fi SDcards.
The new camera is Nex-C3 (note C first and 3 last).
mastroalex
3 years ago |My bad, is definitely C3 http://support.sony-europe.com/Quickjump/default.aspx?site=odw_it_IT&m=NEX-C3

3 years ago |I have a feeling (or maybe it is just hope) that this update will bring a few more improvements besides the ones mentioned in the pdf.
These are just extra functions (which is always cool), there are some minor improvements possible in the current firmware as well.

3 years ago |Where’s a55 update. This is becoming annoying..
Matteo78
3 years ago |Maybe… in this firmware update there is also support for new lenses?
Mattia
3 years ago |And for the VG10?!
Rubicon
3 years ago |Yeah the VG10??? Peaking would be absolutely killer for an actual video camera and won’t have to bother getting a monitor!! Cuz contrast based autofocus is crap
ty
3 years ago |Just realize this…
Does the manual say whether the focus peaking function is done on the live view? Or it only shows the peaking after the image is captured? (Kind of like the blown highlight feature.)
GH
3 years ago |I would imagine it works in live view while actually shooting, judging by this statement in the notes: “The outline of in-focus ranges is not enhanced when the camera is connected using an HDMI cable.”
If so, this is a VERY big deal for manual lens users. Yay!
MrWoody
3 years ago |Indeed, peaking really wouldn’t be worth mentioning if it was only displayed on captured images. That wouldn’t be any use to anyone.
Peaking is widely understood to mean live-view focus highlighting, so I can’t imagine it would be anything but. And if the NEX wasn’t a manual-lens haven before, this could cause it to explode!
I’d better finish stocking up on MD lenses before the firmware hits. eBay prices are already inflating.
Alfonso Cuitiño
3 years ago |OMG this is exiting!
I have a few MD lenses on my NEX, they are great, and so cheap!
My problem is that sometimes I miss to focus the right spot. It would be totally awesome to have the peaking system
lordwin
3 years ago |yes i think the peaking is live view..the peaking feature also exists on the CLM-V55 monitor they recently released..just wtch some video reviews of the LCD on youtube and you’ll see how it works..
Renmager
3 years ago |Focus peaking would be the single most amazing feature I heard since I bought a NEX-5.
If it works right it would be a breeze to recommend NEX cameras over the competition to anyone who already has collected a couple of manual lenses through the years.

3 years ago |Info leak huh? Seems like Sony can’t keep any information to itself these days…*Cough* PSN.

3 years ago |This is an interesting update, can’t wait for the release date.

3 years ago |Finally, Sony answered my request for implementing the Peaking feature on still camera which are widely available on camcorders. This is much better than the Center Zoom on all cameras because we can always visually the full picture when focusing manually.
Dave
3 years ago |In fairness, Sony *do* listen to consumers. Look at the list of fixes frm the a500/550 to the a560/580… they solved about 20-30 little issues and made the 560/580 better in every single way.

3 years ago |am I the only one complaining the abscence of full manual video controls?
how is it possible they take time to add useless style filters and don’t unlock the manual controls?
do they notice that all video DSLR websites talk about Panasonic, Olympus, Canon, Nikon and almost avoid the excellent performance of nex-5 just for the lack of controls?
do they notice that soooo many users asked for it?
style filters are useless, color peaking is a big plus, but manual video controls are a must.
Logan
3 years ago |The focus confirmation is cool, effects are what photoshop is for.
We want shutter control on video! And more video capture options if it isn’t too much to ask.
Kiril
3 years ago |Many thanks to all the engineers, managers, product, marketing, tech pubs and other folks that make this happen. Great work Sony.
I hope they release some lenses soon too, so we can fund your R&D and help your stock options appreciate.
PS Video controls oon NEX are fantastic! I have great full time aperture control for example with manual lenses. With automatic lenses (the 3 available) the option to set aperture or speed up front works just fine for me. I do not think Canon or Nikon controls work any better then NEX.
I am so happy let this firmware out soon please. Can we also get a NEX SDK so we can build cool things like this ourselves?

3 years ago |mmmm…. the peaking function looks REALLY good. I wonder if they’ll implement it into DSLRs, cause it seems to be a great idea helping people to MF.

donald
3 years ago |I’m interested to see how good the peaking effect works when focusing. My one and only gripe is that I can never really tell what I have in focus while using manual focus. Even with a decent screen, it’s hard to tell. This is the main reason I’ve been avoiding a lens adapter + 50mm setup.
specularist
3 years ago |@donald – why can’t you tell what’s in focus in MF? You know about MF Assist x7/14 magnification right? It works perfectly with my Minolta Rokkor-x 50mm 1.4! http://g4.img-dpreview.com/BD430967A90442ABBB50A8B8BDE59559.jpg

Its realy cool the Selective Color in video mode

3 years ago |Um, what? There’s nothing about in-focus colour peaking in there. If you’re talking about the filter modes, they’re pretty much gimmick scene modes that EVERY camera has.
Tarmo
3 years ago |Hmm, okay.
I hope they have some fixes in new firmware too, like 2-press BULB mode for NEX-3 because holding a finger is useless for longer shutters.
Auto-ISO in M mode (aka TAv mode).

Allow one to set the maximum and minimum ISO sensitivities.

3 years ago |i think i am like this new peaking idea. cant wait for test. if he work how i imagins, he will make manual focusing much very speed. and i no more “please you freeze, i focus your face”.
