Sony NEX-3n, A58 and Zeiss 50mm preorders in Europe!

Finally we found some preorder options for the just announced Sony stuff:
The Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 SSM can now be preordered at Wex UK.
The NEX-3n can now be preordered at Sony DE, Amazon DE, Sony UK, Wex DE, Wex UK, Sony FR, Sony IT, Sony ES, Sony NL, Sony SE.
The A58 can now be preordered at Amazon DE, Wex DE, Wex UK.
If you live outside Europe than you have to wait til Monday. It’s when you will see the preorders at Amazon US for example.

But check your math. VAT isn’t 30% but even using your numbers, the outcome should be more than $ 1520. Instead of multiplying by 0.7 you should divide by 1.3.

4 months ago |Ruffy…Zohee35 is right, your math is wrong. Your math doesn’t work the other way. Suppose your watch is $7 before tax. Then take the 30% tax (per your example) – that’s 7*.3= 2.1. So 7+2.1=9.1
It should be 1.3x=10..which works to x=10/1.3…so x= 7.69

4 months ago |Is there a specific date when the NEX-3N will be available? Sony.de mentions an availability of mid march in retail stores, shop.sony.de says the cam will be delivered at end of march (26.-28.).

Sure might be better than the 50mm f1.4 Sony no doubt it is, but £1000 better?
I doubt it thanks but no thanks pointless lens to add to the range when Sony have no 28mm prime (nothing) no affordable 35mm prime (just the lousy f1.4 that’s overpriced) and no reasonable cost 24 or 85mm prime.

4 months ago |Expensive,yes. Crazy,no. Sony’s already got a 50/1.4 in the lineup which is competitive with similar priced options. The Zeiss is going to be in a different league and is priced accordingly. Hopefully this means we’re going to see the missing Zeiss 35/1.4.

4 months ago |Zeiss have announced a new Distagon 55/1.4 (not available for Sony) and they are emphatic in their claim that it is the *best* 35mm SLR normal prime ever made.
In light of that, why would anyone bother with a plain vanilla, over priced, 50/1.4 Zony Planar?

Zeiss, and Sony, have been very careful not to cross lines with duplicate ZA’s from ZF/ZE. It will be interesting to finally see how the upcoming ZF/ZE 135/2 compares to ZA135/1.8… and still, not identical.

4 months ago |Trading for 1/3 of a stop, the latest 135 APO is a bit better than the ZA (measured on a K8 MTF machine). It’s definitely better than the ZA at CA control due to the APO element. Though I have not seen any samples from the ZA 50/1.4, I seriously doubt that it can be as good as the Distagon 55 (Planar already reached its limit with this focal length). The Distagon is phenomenal from what I have seen so far.
This ZA is not designed to compete with the Distagon. This is purely what Sony wants from Zeiss. Whether one is willing to pay for it is a different matter. I know I wouldn’t.

4 months ago |Most makers stuff UK buyers on price (you get a free battery extra at WEX I think) but lets face it the A58 is a £299 camera and kit lens bundle.
Sony just rip off UK buyers more than most (see A99 price shockingly high)
Back to the £1300 odd CZ 50mm f1.4, anyone spending that on a 50mm f1.4 is in serious need of help however good the optics might be. I expected a hefty enough price say £800-£900 odd for that lens. £1300 is comical Sony are fooling nobody with that price
