5 months ago |With SEL20/2.8 out there, these sigma 1st gen lenses are really needless. Keep an eye on new sigma E mount lens later.
Sören
5 months ago |I see it the other way round. The price of the SEL20/2.8 is only justified if you need a pocket camera. If not, the Sigma is a really good deal
Dean
5 months ago |If not go pocket camera, what else NEX can do? Go get EM5 for photo shooting, or get ZE24/1.8 on NEX7. These 2 sigmas have nothing to proud, however new sigma 35/1.4 DSLR lens is indeed not a consuming product.

5 months ago |If you don’t need a pocketable camera then you’d end up better in completely different system then NEX.

5 months ago |WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE?!
Dirty
4 months ago |It’s $600, look on Metabones website. These people are just price gouging for some reason, and acutally have it listed for $1800 now. Sadly, it says “1 sold,” so someone paid triple retail.
Paddy
5 months ago |feel like it’s way over-priced
John Maverick
5 months ago |Bit disappointed at that price. It seems like they’re trying to capitalize on all the internet excitment that was generated. A price around $500-600 would likelly sell a lot more volume.
Mars Observer
5 months ago |The 20mm 2.8 sounds interesting, especially if it is truly ‘sharp’.
It’s reminiscent of one of my favourite Micro 4/3 lenses – the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 pancake. I loved that lens (actually still have it)!!
The Sony would be a bit wider, and not quite as fast… but I’m hoping the DoF, Bokeh and sharpness are as nice.
Ian
5 months ago |Does seem very expensive. Small volume obviously means high price, but even CaNikon 2 x tele converters that support AF and have more complex optical designs are only around US $400. Disappointed but you get that.
EnPassant
5 months ago |At that price a few adapters will cost more than the full frame NEX!
Tom S
5 months ago |You’d only need one adapter though, and considering your only Sony option for FF is going for the A99.. Now, I have Sony Alpha lenses (pretty good ones), so if this worked with those – I would have jumped on it.

5 months ago |wow, the lenses are sold out once again but I did get a order through before it did. Thanks to you ,Admin
Dac
5 months ago |Ridiculous pricing! It’s obvious they are cashing in on the hype, novelty and fact it is the only company offering this. This thing cannot possibly be more than 100$ to make, especially as it’s made by chinese.
For this price, I’d rather skip it and get either the E24/1.8Z or the 20/2.8 and 35/1.8 pair and still have a few bucks to spare.
Dirk
5 months ago |This is exactly what came to my mind, when I saw the prize…
Tom S
5 months ago |I don’t necessarily think it is fair for us to say that. I think there is glass in this thing and it would have to be high quality as well.
That said, I was hoping for a lower price as well, maybe around $600, but more importantly, since I own a Nex but no canon lenses, I would rather have it do Sony Alpha lenses…..
Steve S.
5 months ago |I expect this is just the “early-adopter premium” for those who MUST have it ASAP, whatever the price. IIRC the announced price was US$600, expect that everywhere within the month…
Unless of course Metabones has determined that the market really WILL support that. If they can sell (at the $900 price) every unit they make, as fast as they make them… then the price won’t drop.
Ryan
5 months ago |^^^ this.
The reseller is just trying to sell them at a premium. in a month it will be $600

5 months ago |Justl ike A99 that was suppose to go down below 2k$ in a month?
Tom S
5 months ago |don’t remind me…. I am still upset about the A99 price…
pjpo
5 months ago |If Sony would combine a telecompressor like the Speed Booster in front of a LA-EA2, there would be no need for a full frame and counteract the light loss of the translucent mirror. Sony could add this to all their SLT’s and have no need for their own FF cameras. Just think, the AF points would suddenly properly cover the sensor as they should but with full frame results.
John Maverick
5 months ago |This is only possible because the absence of a mirror/SLT means there is enough space for the focal length reducer. Also fullframe will always be better because nothing is interfering with the optical path.
pjpo
5 months ago |Yes, full frame is ultimately still better. However, crop sensor bodies with a built in telecompressor would be so much cheaper than full frame competition. I don’t think there would be a space issue to get the telecompressor element added, but there is probably more of an issue with focus points along the path of the image being reduced. It probably needs to rely on on-sensor AF.
What if you could then remove the element when you want the 1.5x reach on top of regular teleconverters? Tons of possibilities with this.

5 months ago |Far lower price, far lower image quality.
It’s always like that. No matter what metabones claim.

5 months ago |HAHAHAHAA! 901 DOLLARS? WHY DONT I JUST USE THAT MONEY TO BUY THE DAMN CAMERA ISTEAD? LOL, THERE ARE SO MANY SUCKERS OUT THERE IN THIS WORLD.
Tom S
5 months ago |I agree it’s expensive, but keep in mind that camera for many people is the cheapest investment. You can spend $1000 on a camera, and end up buying lenses that *each* cost $1000-2000 easily. If this actually works well, say you have a nice 50mm 1.4 (canon version is $399), it would mean you can also use that as a 35mm f1 lens. (of course you would need a cheap adapter to use the 50mm as 50mm on the nex as well). If you can even find a lens like that, it would cost A LOT.
Horse Radish
4 months ago |why would u sue a f1 lens? are you worthy of such lenses? does it make your pictures better? are you delusional|?

If you don’t HAVE a camera… by all means, *DO* buy one!
This adapter would be a REAL waste of money for you!
For other folks — those who already have a camera, and a few favorite lenses — well… many of us will suggest that it’s MUCH more about the glass than the camera-body.
If you’ve got a half-dozen (or more) pieces of top-notch glass that ALL gain new life and new functionality on this adapter, $900 may almost become a /bargain/ price. If (as suggested) this preserves overall IQ (resists PF & other CA’s, no barrel/pincushion distortions, minimal vignetting, etc) then I imagine that even at this price it’ll sell. Of course, it remains to be seen whether it CAN maintain stellar IQ when paired with world-caliber lenses! And whether it deals equally-well with standard, wide/ultrawide, tele/ultratele, macro, etc… T/S & PC? Nah, probably not. Still…

5 months ago |If there is an upgrade which can make all my f4 lenses to become f2.8 (or 2.8 to 2.0, or 2.0 to 1.4) in speed, same lens size, on my NEX camera, a $600 is a very good deal.
Almost every new and exciting products have “launch premium” (ipad, PS3, etc.). It is not surprising. If you are not in a hurry, then just wait a bit and it will go down to the MSRP.
I want to see how “terrible” the AF speed is for the SB. Anyone knows any AF test video?
Tom S
5 months ago |At $600, I would even be happy using it as a MF adapter
At least if it had supported Sony Alpha lenses instead of Canon lenses…

4 months ago |I ordered one of these off the metabones site for $599 when the reviews came out two days and its been shipped today. So don’t read too much into this listing.
