2 years ago |Am I seeing things or is that a super thick grip and a super thin camera?
Is it thinner than the NEX-5?
cyrus
2 years ago |Just the top is thinner (convergent)…
The overall depth seems similar
NEXfive
2 years ago |Yes, since the battery can’t be shrink – damn beautiful improvement
Might get one if it really has AVCHD 2.0 complete with 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p & 24p without a worse film crop factor than 1.8 like the actual NEX-5.
1.5 Crop
2 years ago |It’s an optical illusion due to the slope on the top back.
Eric
2 years ago |I sometimes wonder if Sony is doing themselves a favor by slimming the bodies down so much that they have to protrude the lens mount out a few MM’s. Doing so just makes their already large lenses look even larger in product shots.
1.5 Crop
2 years ago |I really dislike the protruding lens mount. Why not just make it a normal flush-to-the-body mount and use the extra space for a bigger battery?
Eric
2 years ago |I’m sure they do it so they can add a front grip to the body without making the overall dimension too thick, but think they’ve taken that idea too far with the 5N.
NEXfive
2 years ago |So far the grip is perfect to handle. Can’t imagine a bigger battery could improve that. But they should have moved the focus light to the other side – maybe lighting the α. It looks a little more in danger now to light only fingers.
Eric
2 years ago |Well then they wouldn’t have room for the alpha logo! What’s more important, functionality or a logo stuck on the front?
The A logo is one thing I was really hoping Sony would leave off of the NEX cameras. I never have liked it. Oh well, at least they aren’t printing the megapixel count on the front anymore like they did A300 days. Man I hated that.
1.5 Crop
2 years ago |Fewer logos are always better. Hopefully they left off the awful “16.x MEGAPIXELS” and “HD-BLAH BLAH” logos.
NEXfive
2 years ago |Sorry, to disappoint you, Eric, but that superfluous megapixels’ count should be hidden behind the lens at the down right front corner if Sony did not change that since their NEX-5. And to be honest I really like the idea of the α illuminated as focus light – maybe having been an Apple user formerly I’m still into that kind of kitsch
Eric
2 years ago |They really shouldn’t allow their marketing department anywhere near the design room when creating cameras. They should let a team of photographers and engineers go to work, then drop it off in the marketing department when they’re done and say “here, sale this”.

2 years ago |I like the design, very similar to NEX-5 but a bit more refined. It looks good in white, sexy little thing.
Marfat
2 years ago |The NEX-5 was already such an awesome body. However, I really miss one button: the AEL, which I use quite a bit in A mode. The workaround is to use full M mode, but it is tedious when there are few physical controls. Alas, I would not hesitate to purchase the new one, from my experience with the A580/A55 sensor. The physical metering switch will also be missed dearly, on the A77 that is.
Alpha Mark
2 years ago |Agree, I love the AEL button on both GF1 and A700.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |“New OLED viewfinder with eye proximity sensor” – Nex 5N gonna have EVF? It doesn’t look to have the EVF. Not here, nor in previous leaks of images from it’s back.
Am I missing something?
GH
2 years ago |Yep, they say it’s an added accessory, meaning it’ll plug into the port on the top of the camera.
Hellven
2 years ago |and where do you put the flash with the evf on? on top of the viewfinder?
GH
2 years ago |As with most other cameras with an attachable EVF, it’s probably a one or the other situation.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |ok. Thanks GH.
Looks like no surprise than >_>
some_@_guy
2 years ago |looks thinner to me
Skinny
2 years ago |It should be about the same size as the normal Nex-5. It looks thinner because the top is tapered (where Sony and Alpha logo are printed).
Civer
2 years ago |There are allready information about the prize?
Will
2 years ago |Please let the white version be available in the US! It reminds me of the stylish, retro Olympus PEN. I want either white, or black. Silver is done, overplayed, out of style.
Kiril
2 years ago |Tough choice ahead
Nex-7 would be a marvel but a bit bigger. Hopefully it will support all sort of flash options. The built in evf is good to have as well. This looks to be a winner now.
Nex-5n – awesome tiny camera with optional eve. A dream come true. Only worry remains the flash. Note the top iso 25k, it is also much smaller then nex-7 it seems. Small is great.
A77 – looks tempting despite the humoungous size and weight. May be the af indeed will be vastly improved compared to a700, may be a bunch of other a700 quirks will be gone too.

2 years ago |Letter “N” means “new”? I wondering which letter will be on nex(t)5? Probably “L” – last.
Renato M.
2 years ago |yeah, I saw that image on photorumors and I was wondering if that was just a mockup or a real leaked image, since they didn’t say anything in the article.
it looks nice, the grip seems reasonable sized as well. I wonder about the back physical buttons, I wish it had more buttons and dials.

2 years ago |pancake, 30mm plz
Raul S.
2 years ago |If you want a 30mm, don’t expect it to be sized as the Samsung 30mm f/2 unless you want it to be slower at f/3.5 or f/4.
knurd
2 years ago |That is one sexy camera. Great job Sony! Is that leather on the grip? If not, and it’s just plastic, it looks like it would be hard to clean all those little holes after a dusty, sweaty day of shooting.
Christopher
2 years ago |That would look great in silver with a black grip. Just enough of the old school look to tempt some who like the x100.
FullFrame NEX (24x36)!
2 years ago |Awesome idea, Christopher. I own an NEX 5 right now, I’ll be switching up to either an NEX 5N or an NEX 7 after I read some reviews on whether the 24MP sensor in any good. I love the idea of a black and silver NEX, very classy.
I really want a Full Frame NEX! Sony, make it happen!
To Andrea –
Anymore information about the new 50mm’s? The leaked 1.4 and 1.2?

2 years ago |Considering this was my old wide-to-medium lens, I don’t get the complaints:
http://jfcampbell.us/photo/vivitar28-90.htm
These NEX lenses are smaller than lenses were growing up, they’re faster, and, ok they’re slightly lesser quality. But they’re still good.
5or7
2 years ago |I remember reading here a while back that the 5N would have full manual controls in video. Is this still the case? Can we confirm this by any chance?
Alpha Mark
2 years ago |Just wait one more week and it will come out. Some taiwanese user already got invitation from Sony Taiwan to attend a press conference on Wednesday 24th this month. Hong Kong Sony Style website will be down this sunday undergo a maintainance, likely to update the A77, Nex7 and Nex 5n. Let see if we can get a leak link before wednesday next week.
Chris
2 years ago |daammmnn..it looks greeatt in whitte..!!!
wonder NEX 7 is available in white..!!
Mikey
2 years ago |I love the matte white too but I’m not too sure about the white material around the grip. It would seem like it would be easy to dirty and tough to clean. Is it removable?
My guess is that the NEX7 will come in any color you’d want as long as that color is black. At $1000+ USD its being marketed at the enthusiast/professional who will be less concerned about having a nice looking color.
Jennzhen
2 years ago |“At $1000+ USD its being marketed at the enthusiast/professional”
Are you implying that amateur photographers are poor?
Who knows, some girls (or boys) might want pink NEX-7
Mikey
2 years ago |Why do you say the EVF is similar to the X100? Honestly, it sounds like you just wanted to drop an ebay link for the X100. It feels sneaky and can be confusing. I know you want to make some money off of your effort and associated costs but don’t be sneaky about it.
Simon_P
2 years ago |No doubt Nex 7 is targeting X100 as a competitor, given its huge success (but I really don’t think it worths that much)
Simon_P
2 years ago |Confirmed that Nex 7 will also has touch screen?
Chris
2 years ago |is NEX 7 worth buying if we compared it to a77..???

2 years ago |We’ll need to see.
I have an a700. I will be upgrading to A77.
Should my backup be my a700, or NEX 5, or NEX 7?
Do I care about A77 as much as NEX?
Is the tiny NEX 7 with its limited lens selection worth the price?
Is A77 worth the size? Can’t I go just with NEXes?
Those are the questions you can ask.
As for me, those are the questions that crosses my mind.
Jennzhen
2 years ago |“Is the tiny NEX 7 with its limited lens selection worth the price?”
Actually, NEX-7 could be the camera with the biggest lens selections … ever!
Think about all the MF / other brand lenses that NEX-7 can use, especially if corner problem with NEX-3/5 (when using non-NEX lenses) is fixed.
Raul S.
2 years ago |The only lenses I think are not fully useable with the NEX-series cameras are m4/3 and CCTV lenses… =D
+1 for that…the NEX-series cameras have the biggest lens selection ever.
My December
2 years ago |Looks good and sufficient enough to me. I don’t need the advance specs of the Nex-7.
zae
2 years ago |Don’t know if this has been covered somewhere but…
Probable reason why it’s called 5N instead of N5 or something along the same naming scheme as C3:
In japanese, 5 is pronounced “go”, so 5N becomes “goen” which means opportunity or good luck.
Incidentally, “five yen” in japanese is also pronounced “go en”, which is why the japanese donate five-yen coins when praying at Shinto shrines.
lhkjacky
2 years ago |Yes you are right.
5 is pronounced as“go”.
But they pronounce NEX-5 as “NEX faibu” not “NEX go”.
Jennzhen
2 years ago |So NEX-5N will be pronounced as NEX faibu-en?
Any special meaning?
Muhammad
2 years ago |According to Imaging Resource, nex C3′s prefocused shutter lag is 0.114 sec and nex 5n’s specs posted here says the lag is 0.02 sec, is 5n going to use the same electronic shutter of A77?

2 years ago |It has Touch screen so you can touch and focus. I like that but nex5n being so small and with Nose heavy big zoom lens I just don’t know how you can hold the camera steady enough to touch the touch screen to focus and and press the shutter button while try to hold the camera steady at the same time.
Milos Janata
2 years ago |Today I realized that Sony (and not only) are trying to create a cellphone.
All those cameras are just side effect.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |Well, if so than it’s probably the worst cellphone ever.
Never the less there’s some true in that – Sony Ericsson designed the interface for NEX cameras.

Jiri
2 years ago |The grip is what I like on the NEX-5N. I hope it´s large enough to hold the camera properly in my (not so small) hand
Milos Janata
2 years ago |i like the grip too, was just kidding about it:) no need to make it smaller cos of actual lens size
ghj2
2 years ago |Camera looks great with a compact lens on it. Sony needs to make more of them.

2 years ago |Nex-5N’s new shutter…. wonder if it going to be quieter?
The one on NEX-5 is very loud.
emarsh
2 years ago |I don’t think that camera is white, the image is a black and white type image. The camera is silver, just like it was on the nex 5, they’ve altered the grip shape and used different material to wrap around the grip. But I do not think that camera is white.
Vince
2 years ago |Well, white doesn’t look like that bad. I think it looks much better than silver, although I will buy a black one. As long as the lens can’t be built smaller, whether the bady’s thin or thick doesn’t matter at all.
nopt
2 years ago |The thin bodies and protruding lens mound -do- serve a function rather than just being about looks. It allows Sony to have a grip that’s deep enough, but still doesn’t stick out very far. You can actually kinda wrap your fingers around the grip of the NEX-5, which wouldn’t be possible if the front of the camera was flush with the mount.
Brian
2 years ago |I like it. I still won’t be buying one though.. horrible lenses but I will consider the NEX7 with adapters or maybe the Zeiss.
EvanZ
2 years ago |The main differences between the 5N and C3 are what? The 5N has a magnesium body, right? And the LCD is a touchscreen. And the body is obviously different. Are those the main differences?
sgoof
2 years ago |1080p ?
EvanZ
2 years ago |right, thanks!
Hannu
2 years ago |Biggest difference is when recording video. 720p vs 1080p etc.
poki
2 years ago |And 1080p video vs 720p on the NEX-C3. That are enough differences for a price just 100 bucks above the C3.
spacegoret
2 years ago |I can’t see the stereo microphones on the front of the body (like on the NEX C3 and the NEX 7).
I could not find them either on the first leaked photo :
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-huge-sony-leak/
I wonder where they are…
Larry
2 years ago |After using both NEX 3 and A35, I don’t understand the NEX cameras. I got the NEX for portability. The 16mm lens does that and I enjoyed that walk-about photo and video experience. Zoom on and it’s not so portable. The slow contrast focus was a problem shooting sports and wildlife, including children. The menu-driven system removed quick response creative decisions. Yes, I customized the soft keys and got it pretty nicely set up.
The A35 is in a different league entirely. Quick access to important camera settings with appropriate dials and buttons. Getting to the menu-driven functions is similar, but easier than the NEX. The phase detect autofocus is quite fast and the EVF is awesome.
Put the 35mm f1.8 lens on it and it isn’t a whole lot bigger or heavier then the NEX and far more capable. A 35mm (equiv) pancake on the NEX would make a very nice every-day camera/lens combo. But for the same cost as a A35?
