Wild Rumors roundup: A7IV, new videocamera, macro GM lens…

About those rumors: I have no idea who sent them and 90% of the times they turn out to be wrong. But, it happened in the past that a couple of those were right. So I will post them today, and we all together can eventually keep track of this. If one of the sources turns out to be right than we will know we can trust it a bit more!

Reviewers just received the A7IV for testing in the field. Release date is more than likely September/October.
30MP sensor is correct.

Hi, I was told that the finalisation of the A7IV got postponed again due to current chip prices. As a result it’s expected the A7IV won’t be released in 2021. Some niche versions / variations of current camera models could be released instead in 2021.

First leaked image of the new Sigma 150-600mm FE

I just received this image of the new Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS FE lens. It doens’t show much but at leats it confirms it’s a real deal and that it’s coming very soon:

Specs:

  • lens configuration of 25 elements in 15 groups
  • minimum shooting distance of 58cm-280cm
  • maximum shooting magnification of 1: 2.9 (at 180mm), and 9 aperture blades (at 180mm). (Circular aperture)
  • filter size φ95mm
  • size φ109.4×263.6mm
  • weight 2100g (including tripod mount)
  • teleconverter (TC-1411 / TC-2011) seems to be compatible.
  • 170,000 YEN excluding tax

Will the chip shortage also delay the Sony A7IV launch?

Our sources told us multiple times the Sony A7IV was scheduled to be announced in September with shipment start in October. But as you all know by now there is a worldwide chip production shortage. The ZV-E10 launch was postponed for two months because of this (from End of May to July first…and now to August). And also other camera companies had to delay the mass production of new cameras. While chip makers are doing everything they can to increase the production the supply issue will be solved by early 2022 only

At this stage I don’t know if Sony will stick to the September announcement and eventually only postpone the shipment start from October to November/December or if Sony somehow found a way to get around the issue.

As for the A7IV specs I still have no 100% solid info but it appears the camera might use a new 30MP (or 32MP) sensor. It will also NOT record 8K.

Sigma will very soon announce an E-mount and L-mount version of this lens. Nokishita reports:

The L mount version of Sigma “150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Sports” has a lens configuration of 25 elements in 15 groups, a minimum shooting distance of 58cm-280cm, a maximum shooting magnification of 1: 2.9 (at 180mm), and 9 aperture blades (at 180mm). (Circular aperture), filter size φ95mm, size φ109.4×263.6mm, weight 2100g (including tripod mount), teleconverter (TC-1411 / TC-2011) seems to be compatible.

According to unconfirmed information about the domestic price of Sigma 150-600mm Sports, “The suggested retail price in Japan will be a little higher than Tamron’s 150-500 (170,000 excluding tax)” “The list price will not exceed 200,000 yen including tax” So, is the suggested retail price around 180,000 yen excluding tax?
