RUMOR: Some more High End APS-C camera tidbits…

Image on top shows the current Sony A7c. The new High end APS-C camera will look very similar to it.

Another (new!) source told me this about the new High end camera. Not sure if it’s true but I guess it is:

The Alpha 6900 is a limited 32Mp APS-C Exmor RS version of Alpha 1 (Resolution: 6912×4608). It limits the the continuous shooting speed to 20FPS. And It use a pure electronic shutter with fast flash synchronization time at 1/250s. So the body of Alpha 6900 is even lighter than Alpha 6600.

To sum up:

  • Basically, an a7c with an aps-c sensor.
  • same EVF, LCD resolution
  • same tilt screen
  • same new menus
  • only minor tweaks to a7c body
  • BUT improved IBIS using smaller APS-C sensor
  • New sensor
  • higher resolution over current APS-C line
  • same FPS as a6600 but now pushing larger files
  • improved low-light performance
  • reduced rolling shutter
  • video specs may be close to a7c
  • price similar to a7c

RUMOR: That new High End APS-C cameras name is not A6700. Announcement in two weeks from now!

Image on top shows the A6600. The new camera will replace it.

Just a couple of tidbits rumors I got over the weekend:

  • A trusted source told me the camera will not be named A6700
  • Another trusted source told me to expect the announcement in around two weeks from now
  • Another source who saw the camera says it’s definitely a sort of Sony A7c looking camera.

Rumor recap:

Confirmed info:

  • Announcement late May
  • A6600 replacement
  • same general body form factor but wit many smaller improvements they took from the ZV-1 and A7c
  • Will be branded as “Vlogger” camera

Still to be confirmed:

  • Name: A6700
  • 32MP sensor
  • 4k 60p 10 bit video
  • Fully articulated screen
  • Readout at 12bit is 17ms.
  • Form factor is identical to a7c
  • better lcd and evf minor tweeks to the body.

WILD RUMOR: First Sony A7rV specs…

There are multiple A7rV rumors spreading on Chinese forums and socials. I first completely ignored those but now I am receiving them daily from SAR readers. So I post them here with a BIG warning. I have NOT heard of any A7rV coming this year. It’s much more likely it will be announces sometimes in 2022. So I am very suspicious about those rumors. But you read them and judge for yourself if such specs would actually make sense:

Wild Rumors roundup: A7sIV, A9III, 100mm GM, High End APS-C, first camera without mechanical shutter

About those rumors: I have no idea who sent them and 90% of the times they turn out to be wrong. But, it happened in the past that a couple of those were right. So I will post them today, and we all together can eventually keep track of this. If one of the sources turns out to be right than we will know we can trust it a bit more!

Source 1:

Sony ‘s second 8K Full Frame E-Mount camera will be the alpha 7S IV, then is the alpha 7R V.
So the alpha 7S IV will be a 40+ megapixels camera with same extreme High-ISO performance as alpha 7S III.
It added XAVC HS/S 8K 10bit 4:2:2 and XAVC SI 10bit 4:2:2 in 8K.
This Camera can output Full Frame 8K up to 30p, Full Frame/Super 35mm Oversampled 4K up to 60p, Full Frame Pixel-Binning 4K up to 120p. The video quality of alpha 7S IV in 4K can be higher than alpha 1.

Source 2:

The ILCE-9M3 is a special camera which using the same body as ILCE-1, but drop the Mechanical Shutter Drivee. It has a new Exmor RS sensor which using the same ADCs as the ILCE-1. ILCE-9M3 has only 2 ms readout speed at 14b A/D. So Mechanical Shutter is no need, and thanks to the that, ILCE-9M3 can lighter than ILCE-7C.

Source 3:

A9 iii = no mechanical shutter. Camera weight is lower than A7c.

Source 4:

I’ve heard about a 100mm f1.4 GM on a Chinese social media.

Source 5:

High end aps c camera this year new design new naming.

Source 6:

A9iii is gonna be lighter than 7c because of shutter removal.
Looks like flash sync is 1/500s.

Source 7:

SONY is developing a high-speed camera without mechanical shutter. Around 24MP, high speed readout Type 2.7 ExmorRS CMOS.

Main improvement:
– 14bit 20FPS until cards are full
– 30FPS with buffer limitation
– of course it will have FF SS 4K60p, but 120p is locked out

Successor of the α9II?
