Sony A7rV (and another Zv-1 similar camera) will be launched before the A9III

We are still in the midst of the worldwide sensor shipment crisis, so timing still is a bit unsure. But from what I gathered til now this is what we can expect in 2022:

  1. A new ZV-1 alike styled camera and a new A7rIV are going to be announced before the A9III
  2. And only if sensor supply issues permit it, the A9III will come as last camera of the year (or in early 2023 if things go bad)

I have been told there is room for some surprises, but I don’t know what’s meant with this. I hope to get more tidbits about this soon.

Curiosity: Sony long pause…four months without a new product announcement!

Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM at BHphoto. Amazon. Adorama. FocusCamera. Fotokoch Germany. Calumet Germany, Foto Erhardt. ParkCameras UK. Jessops.

Last year on October 21 we got the last Sony announcement (A7IV). Today we officially mark four months of long pause with no new camera and no new lens. This is rather unusual for Sony. By comparison, last year Sony made two announcements in January (Sony A1 and 35mm GM).

The worldwide chip shortage may lead Sony to make a short “break” and postpone the announcement. But I am certain that pause will be over soon. Last year we got the 50mm f/1.2 GM lens in March. And 12 months after it would be nice to get the new 85mm f/1.2 GM ;)

Wild rumors roundup: 100MP Alpha, A7Cr, A9III and 40MP APS-C sensor

So I will post them today, and we all together can eventually keep track of this. If one of the sources turns out to be right than we will know we can trust it a bit more!

By the way, sony semicon has two new apsc sensors, one of them has more than 40MP.

Leaked images of the new OM-1 camera: It uses the new Sony Quad Pixel sensor

43rumors leaked the images and specs of the new OM-1 Micro Four Thirds camera that will be announced on Feb 15. the interesting bit for use is that it uses the new 20mp IMX472 Quad Pixel sensor from Sony (You can download the PDF here).

If I got it right the OM-1 will have a high dynamic range mode that allows to combine 4 pixels in 1 and create a 20Mp image with 2 stops of dynamic range gain.

Coming soon: New Tamron, Laowa lens announcements…and Sony 85mm f/1.2 to be announced in Spring?

This month we got two new lenses, the Sigma 20mm FE and the Samyang 135mm f/1.8 FE. But there is more tom come:

  • Tamron said they will announce new lens(es)
  • Laowa said they will announce new lens(es)

Regarding: Sony, this is what I can say:

  • With 99% certainty no new E-mount camera will be announced at CP+.
  • The next camera to be announced is a new ZV-1 styled camera in Spring
  • The 85mm f/1.2 may be announced some time after the CP+ show in Spring.

I know this doesn’t sound exciting for now, but I have been told there is a lot to come particularly during the second half of 2022!
