A77 ripped apart. New Zeiss 24mm f/2.0 review.
The video you see here on top has been posted by Sonyblog (Click here / via noisy). It shows you the full naked and ripped A77 camera. To bad they toke it apart, there is now one less camera that can be delivered to a customer. The A77 is so difficult to find in Stock I found only three stores having them: SonyStore USA and Amazon Germany and of course on eBay where you find them for a crazy price only).
David from Photoclubalpha (Click here) posted a new full Zeiss Distagon 24mm f/2.0 review (A-mount): “The Sony Zeiss 24mm f/2 SSM Distagon ZA T* is probably the best, or equal to the best, in its class. It may perhaps be the best ever 84° angle fast lens ever made for the general SLR system market, and I would happy to pitch it against any of the current equivalent offerings for medium format digital“. And when David talks about the A77 and the future fullframe sensors he writes: “If Sony’s 24 megapixel APS-C sensor formed the basis for a full-framer, it would be a 60 megapixel monster and match all but the most expensive medium format image sizes. I believe the 24mm CZ could go there if Sony chose to.” Dear David, it’s going to be 24 and 36 Megapixel only for now, but with 100 Megapixel sensor coming within 2-3 years ![]()
Check the Zeiss 24mm lens price and availability at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.

lol… fainted!

2 years ago |I agree with David… Hi-res sensor quality would be superb.
I hear you screaming about noise, but it would be the same on the cropped picture as in A77. A77 quality is close to full-frame, because you have resolution there to catch detail. With low light or high iso you loose detail because of physical limits of sensor technology. But when conditions are good you get exceptional quality.
With lower resolution you will get less noise, but as well less detail. Is not about MP race it’s about pushing technology to the limits. If we make resolution higher and won’t get better detail because of noise covering it up, than it’s pointless, but we are far from this when we are considering current sensor tech and 36MP FF (not to mention 24MP FF).
BTW I believe that I’ve seen this A77 model when it was launching. Nevertheless I think it was never a functional camera it was produced to be a mockup. So don’t worry

2 years ago |Even if you dress sheep as wolf, its still sheep.
Its irrelevant if its SD1 or A77, its still APS-C, it has APS-C look, not full-frame, not medium format.
It can match resolution, but it cant match look, simply because its smaller sensor.

2 years ago |That 24megapixel sheep will kick the ass of your 12megapixel wolf.
David
2 years ago |That depends on the style of shot though
When he mentioned MF, he also said the flat field of view and resolution were great for things like art reproduction.
Obviously you can’t have an APS-C or FF with the “look” of MF in terms of thin depth of field. But for a flat image or something focused to infinity, you can!

2 years ago |I don’t want it to pretend to be a larger sensor camera. But we could get amazing detail, like every single tiny hair on models face that we can see on MF photographs (with waist-up or even wider shot).
If you want artistic effects like very shallow DoF, than you just have to get MF and you just don’t care about FF. On the other hand if you want to have amazing detail and for example two models you need hi-res and FF, because DoF of MF is to shallow to catch the scene.
As quobetah said 24MP APS-C vs 12MP FF? Of course it could be A77 vs D3s, but those are completely different cameras. We should consider A77 sensor vs Sony 12MP FF sensor made in the same technology, than A77 would be a winner (for photography, not surveillance camera @32000ISO)
You may say Sony 12MP FF could be improved at the same cost as A77 sensor but how? You already got as much quality as you can save on 12MP photo. Higher ISO? 64000? Give me a break…

2 years ago |can you tell me something about the A77 ?
- the buffer is good for about 18 shots – which is only 1.5 seconds at 12 fps.
but what if you reduce the image size to, say 6 Mp – does that mean you can do longer bursts ?
the other thing I’d like to know is if you can switch between PAL and NTSC (and the associated frame rates).
can’t find this info in any review – hope someone can answer !
thanks
David
2 years ago |Hi Nick,
I don’t own an a77 but I have heard that:
reducing file size doesn’t affect how many pics you can take. Not sure why.
You can’t switch between PAL or NTSC. That depends where you buy the camera.
Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, but IIRC those answers are correct
That said, I do know that the buffer really isn’t as small as people make it out to be. It’s a BURST mode, NOT a 12fps movie mode. 1.5s is a LONG time to continuously shoot. A good photographer will time their bursts around the periods of action. In sports or action, a kick of the ball, the ball hitting the bat, the guy in mid-air during a jump.. all of those things are WAY faster than 1.5s, so 12fps helps you to get the exact moment within that window of opportunity. But just expecting to hold down the shutter and get the perfect shot won’t work.
Nick
2 years ago |thanks for the response,
so I guess that means the buffer limitation is more to do with processing speed than live memory,i.e. the jpg conversion can’t keep up with 12 fps.
I guess I’ll need to improve my technique – 18 frames is plenty as long as I can anticipate when the moment is likely to happen to within 1.5s, but that’s not always easy

2 years ago |This is such marketing hype, nothing more. A Sony person interviewing a Sony person, how lame is that? Think about it for a second. Wasn’t that Mark guy head of the Cybershot division for a long time?
Really easy to be prepared for an interview when your own employee is asking prepared questions.
Marketing HYPE.
I’d like to see Sony address a frontal live interview with someone from the press that can ask relevant and important questions about the A-Mount, someone that has a lot of experience in the camera industry.
end of line.
