2 years ago |Well, nice hopes there.
Sony already have cameras which can capture photos during recoding, so I guess that adding this to DSLRs wouldn’t be a problem. But we’ll see…

2 years ago |That’s a great article. It really reassures me given how disappointed I was yesterday after the announcement (or to be more accurate, the lack of real announcement).

2 years ago |Now I think of it, is there any estimated release date for the A7xx etc ? I thought I had read something like this year or fourth quarter somewhere around the net, don’t know for sure…
I personally crop a lot of my photos to 16:9 because sometimes it’s just better than 4:3, 3:2, square or whatever else. But I’d still prefer the camera’s to use a 3:2 ratio…

2 years ago |Joris – some rumors suggest that the camera is nearly ready given the body design we saw at PMA. Some others say that considering no name and specs have been given, the release date would most probably be late Q3/Q4.
Regarding the aspect ratio, it’ll still be possible to crop it to a more natural 3/2 but of course at the expense of the effective resolution.

2 years ago |well, I don’t know who this guy is, but it seems Sony didn’t expect everybody to be so disappointed and know tries to give some hope.
my money is ready to be spent on whatever I will find on the shelf on my first assignment.
best,

2 years ago |Well, that’s exactly what would say: if there’s already some sort of draft of the body design, it shouldn’t take THAT long. The earlier it goes on sale the earlier the price drops and I might pick it up (by that time I’ll want quite a bit more of everything: bigger grip since I’ve got rather big hands and my trusty A350 is just a tad too small for holding a 70-400 G SSM for some hours during an airshow, more fps, faster AF, more buttons on the body instead of the menu,…).
Thanks for the quick response! If only they’d come out with specifications…
Wiki on the A700:
!
“On September 6, 2007, Sony announced that the Sony α700 would be launched on November 16, 2007.”
- Hopefully the same happens to the A7xx

2 years ago |Joris: actually the A700 went on sale much before November–but that was after an introduction, not just showing a concept camera under glass. On the other hand, a senior member of the PhotoclubAlpha site posted yesterday to the effect that working copies of the A700 successor and maybe other cameras were shown to DPR toward the end of 2009, and that DPR even had a chance to play with them. He and others for this reason and others believe that the A7xx cameras will be introduced fairly soon. My bet is June 6.
kkt: David Kilpatrick is one of the key people in the business of keeping up with Sony Alpha cameras. He runs the PhotoclubAlpha web site. He doesn’t often make predictions, but when he does, he tends to be far more thougtful and accurate than perhaps anybody else.

dpr crew only saw mockups last year, no working copy (according to dpr post on sony forum).
