(SR4) New Noktor HyperPrime 23mm f/1.7 lens coming soon?
On top: The very first picture(?) taken with the (preproduction) Noktor HyperPrime 23mm f/1.7 for NEX (Click on picture to enlarge).
We have been just told by our sources that there will be a new E-mount Noktor 23mm f/1.7 lens coming soon. The design is based on cinema lens, that means it has a 12 aperture blades that will make a perfectly round aperture opening. The lens will be available in December for around $499. It has a minimum focus distance of 10cm.
The lens is made by the Chinese company SLRmagic which already makes the 35mm f/1.7 for NEX (available on eBay).

9 months ago |How is this a hyperprime???
f/1.7 is just a fast(ish) prime.

9 months ago |Hyperprime is their sub-brand.

9 months ago |The previous ‘hyperprime’ was the 50mm f/0.95 m4/3 lens. The rest of SLRMagic’s lens dont have this branding.
Imo pretty big difference between f/1.7 and f/0.95!
I might have to start calling my rokkor collection hyper all round
.

even though it’s a manual

9 months ago |For that price they could at least give us electronic coupling for storing lens data(the same goes for current noktor), aperture control would be too much to ask for I suppose.
Hopefully the design(pancake?) and optical quality will justify the price, cause it will be directly compared with zeiss 24mm F1.8 so it better be good.

9 months ago |NOKTOR just cant find a winner with any of these. Overpriced, remodeled cctv lense are not what NEX users are dying for – especially if its manual everything.

9 months ago |Unless, it’s opticaly good and can be paired with nex-7 for good results. If not, they can already close their business.

9 months ago |none of the noktors (with an R at the end) are any good image quality, NONE.
Voigtlander Noktons (with a N at the end) are better.

9 months ago |At least this lens is faster than the Zeiss. It is a fast wide angle prime and can be an interesting option for my pre-ordered NEX-7

9 months ago |Faster by what, a quarter of a stop?
At least the Zeiss will actually be usable wide open. I doubt it will be the case of this cine lens.

Not much tech info there but seems to be usable in low-light.
The guy is good and has been already featured here on SR with his Hx9v vid.
Enjoy

9 months ago |Meh.
Unless it’s a real pancake, otherwise it’s really not worth it, since I’ve never seen a good Noktor yet (the new 50/0.95 for NEX does look pretty decent though).

9 months ago |Never heard if the is a 23mm F1.7. Why don’t put like 22.75mm? I have no faith on Noktor.

9 months ago |This just seems like an ordinary alternative to the Zeiss 24/1.8 being released with the NEX7.
If the Noktor doesn’t offer anything special then who are they kidding offering this CCTV sub par quality. Bleh.

9 months ago |Are cinema and CCTV lenses the same? I’m just guessing they’re not?
Fants
9 months ago |Well, they’re “the same” in that both of them consist of a whole bunch of different formats, therefore making the words “cinema” or “CCTV” virtually useless in terms of conveying important information. There are plenty of film camera frame-coverage sizes (8mm, 16mm, 35mm, 70mm, etc), and TONS of the same for CCTV. Literally any sensor size you can think of from APS-C down is represented in the CCTV world. There are lots of lenses that cover several different sensor sizes, but plenty that don’t as well.

9 months ago |I talked to the guys from SLRMagic some weeks ago about the CCTV-lens-critics. They told me they didn’t start from scratch and borrowed some of the basic optical designs from other lenses like the old Noktor, which maybe basically was a CCTV-lens (there’s a CCTV-lens which looks exactly the same btw.) and improved it to match the Sony NEX system. Steve Huff for example pointed clearly out that the new HyperPrime is much better than the old one for m4/3.
One interesting thing they pointed out: The 0.95 CCTV lens wouldn’t be able to cover the sensor in the NEX-5. Sounds somewhat right, although it still vignettes a little bit at f/0.95. And hey, it provides a sharp center with f/0.95 for a reasonable price! At least, they give us choice.
