Sony 18-55mm review at Photozone

There is a new Sony lens review at Photozone. They had the good idea to review the Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM DT lens which is probably one of the most used lenses. SO how does it perform? Photozone: “Optically there’s really little to complain about – the lens is very sharp throughout the zoom range and the subjective sharpness perception benefits from quite low lateral CAs (color shadows). There’s a bit of a focus shift issue at the wide end so it’s a good idea to double check your images in shallow depth-of-field situations here.” Click here to read the full test.

2 years ago |probably they forgot to mention the hideous barrel-distortion at 18mm (just like with the 18-70mm), it´s softness at almost every focal lenght, except at 28mm, it´s plastic, dinky feeling and lensmount??? okay, it is a kitlens, so no need to complain, especially for this price, but to say that it is good? no way…
nice toy to start with, and after 2 months to throw it in the bin, or keep it, whenever you want to sell your alpha again..

Sample variation is a major factor in quality of lens and the review did state that, however I really don’t believe you have used it at all. What I find amusing about your comment and I quote, “…okay, it is a kitlens, so no need to complain, especially for this price…” you STILL complain.
Perhaps you don’t know how to use the lens despite it been a kit lens, and simply cannot produce images of a photographer except that of a keyboard whinger.
I’m going on holidays, Alex I suggest you do that also and take photo’s instead of wasting your breath any further.

2 years ago |It is also a decent macro lens, it does a good job. Barrel distortion can be corrected in 2 minutes using photoshop. For entry level it’s a very polyvalent lens, I kept mine when upgraded to Zglass, it won my respect.
