Sony A77 to be in Stock on October 14.

Sony Japan confirmed that the A77 will be in Stock on October 14. It’s very likely that asian countries will the first to get the A77. European and Americans might have to wait a couple of days (or weeks) more.
Meanwhile on the web you can find new image samples and previews. Here is a new list of links:
1) Sony A77 first impressions at Whatdigitalcamera: “The results from my brief hands-on are very detailed, though a little more noisy than the latest less resolute sensors. However, I must emphasise that this is a pre-production model and final tweaks to the processing algorithms are still being made, so I’m reluctant to place too much emphasis on that.“.
2) Sony A77 versus Sony A580 at dpreview forum. Sony A77 beauty image at Planetyawn. Sony A77 image samples at Photoforum Russia. NYC at Night with Sony SLT-a77 on youtube.
3) A japanese SAR reader sent us the following text: “I just went to an Sony Event last Sat.The famous cameramen Ozawa Chukyo talk about the A77 and Nex5N. I have just upload the part 1 of A77 on youtube.”
4) Another reader sent us this: “I asked Nick Webster, the guy on Vimeo who has the pre-production A77 underwater video about record times after the A55 over-heating debacle. This is what he said: “With Steadyshot Inside turned on, the maximum is nine minutes (which is a very long time for one clip). Without Steadyshot Inside, you can record as long as you like.”

9 months ago |Extrapolating what Nick Webster said, I would assume that the A77′s field edges in video mode would NOT be cut-off if the electronic Non-SSS image stabilization is able to be turned-off in favor of SSS. As I understand it, the 4 edges are cut to accommodate this non-piezo electronic stabilization- luckily the A77 still has 14-16MPx still in frame with this form of stabilization. This leads me to believe that we can go without any in-body stabilization for video tripod work. If anyone knows for sure if the the edges are not cut-off during the SSS video option, let us SAR readers know. Perhaps Andrea can ask Nick W., himself.
I love how we keep finding these little surprises about the camera almost on a daily basis.

9 months ago |The images are cropped to 1920×1080 during video shooting, as you would expect. I don’t believe that any of the edges are cut-off though.
With the underwater movie, I actually managed an 11-minute shot with the SteadyShot Inside on, but this was underwater, where the ambient temperature is far lower than the air, which helped with cooling.

9 months ago |I was considering the A77 but after the price jumped from the initial rumored price and reviews don’t sound promising to me so I lost interest and I will go with the NEX-7 most likely. My A850, A500 and NEX-5 will do for now.

9 months ago |Dr. Tom; your logic eludes me. If you didn’t like the reviews for the A77, your not going to be crazy about the NEX 7- they are basically the same camera camera internally. The NEX 7 has the size advantage and larger selection of MF lenses that can be attached via adapter. They have the same sensor and the BIONZ processor is no better in the NEX 7. The NEX 7 has to have image-degrading microlenses to correct soft corners d/t a short register distance, these are not necessary in the A77. The A77′s advantage over the NEX 7 is: faster phase-detection AF, hundreds of new and old AF lenses that can be attached without an adapter (see Dyxum.com), a far more adept viewscreen, many more direct-access buttons, an optional vertical grip with additional battery power, and a higher pop-up flash guide number. There are more advantages of the A77, but those are the main ones that come to mind.

9 months ago |Funny…I haven’t heard any bad reviews about the a77 other than a few complaints about preproduction high ISO samples. Everything else has been pretty positive.
I’m not all in yet I need to have a look at the EVF myself. The opinions I’m looking most forward to are production model Sony users who are familiar with Sony products and don’t have a bias for other products. If the a77 is Sh%& they will let us know and if it’s great cameras they will; let us know. Way too early to make judgement if you haven’t handled a production model with the latest firmware.

9 months ago |+1 Harpo. If the high ISO output bothers him, he prob should get a Sony NEX 5N with the 50mm f/1.8 OSS and ditch his NEX 5. If I were him I would keep the A850, unless I couldn’t live without Liveview and a swingin’ viewfinder of the A77.

9 months ago |HK is having a batch of A77 by the end of Sueptember, pre-order started on the 6th on all major electric retailers and Sony HK.
A display model is also available… I have to admit, it is very tempting for me to sell my a850 and get the A77. The OLED is very convincing, you will definitely not think too much of it when using it. A great step forward vs any EVF on the market. 16-55 lens is very quick, as fast as the 24-70 Zeiss.
Shutter is very snappy n quiet vs the A850′ definitely much lighter but was not as comfortable for my grip… Might be because I hv bigger palm.
Think I will buy it today n play with it for a while.
Check out Sonystyle.com.hk for the different packages. Pretty good deals!

9 months ago |Hallo,
i wonder why everybodes is complaining about the high iso capabilities of A65 and A77 and is considering to buy Nex 7 instead of one of those. when thinking about this problem Super Steady Shot comes into my mind. As far as i heard about this stabilizer it is very good. So you have to take into account that you can use slower shutter speeds with the A65/A77 when doing handheld shots compared to Nex7 and Nex5n. I think if you consider this fact A65/A77 could possibly more than outperform the Nex-7 and even the Nex-5N when doing low light shots. On the other side Nex and A are very different cameras. You should better compare A77 to Nikon D7000 which has stabilized lenses, too. I think D7000 will be better in low light but i don’t think it will stomp the A77 into bottom
Think it will be a great camera for daily use. Espacially for Landscape and Architecture as well as Sports and Portraits.
If you consider that you can do very good vudeis with the SLT concept. 65/A77 looks like a winner to me. High Iso will not be bad. so even a camera for low light light shooting and especially for low light video. Looking highly forward to test it in store. If i like the new EVF (didn’t like the one in old SLT cameras) i will definitly buy the A77

9 months ago |TT11: I think I understand what your trying to say. Yes, the A77 looks like a winner to me too. Test have shown it has a slight edge over the A850/A900 FF models from ISO 1600 on up. Hell, I have a A77 on pre-order. BUT, to play Devil’s Advocate…the Sony 5N wipes the floor with the A77/ NEX7 for low-light performance. Can the Sony A77/ NEX 7 get better with a newer generation of internal software ? Why, yes it can. And the coming RAW converters from companies like DxO can elevate the low-light level of low-grain exposures to ever higher levels. But, the physics of current sensor tech say that a less tightly-packed sensor (16 vs. 24MPx) is going to have a lower signal-to-noise ratio. Personally, it is rare that I shoot above ISO 1600, where the 7-series cameras seem just fine to me. So, I’m choosing extra detail over low-light performance.
The test done on low light performance don’t bring into play OSS/SSS, they are done via a tripod. But this is all talk. Judge with your own eyes the contenders in the test below:

Really great, still the same overheating problem as with the a55 !!!!
Nick Webster
9 months ago |It does only allow a nine-minute recording time with the SteadyShot on, but please remember that nine minutes is a very, very long shot. If you turn the function off you get the full 29 minutes.
Also, the a77 I have been using is pre-production, so the release version will be top-notch.
