Sony NEX cameras in Stock almost everywhere (in Stock status check)

The first place to check for availability is http://www.sonystyle.com. The in Stock status does change depending from the country you live. We have seen that the NEX3 is in Stock almost everywhere and the NEX5 only in few countries.
Let’s also check other big stores:
US -> Amazon has the NEX3 in Stock. Also BHphoto has the NEX-3 in Stock. And where is the NEX-5? Only Ritz camera does have the black model in Stock!
EUROPE -> The most lucky guys are our friends from UK and France! Amazon UK has the black and silver NEX5 in Stock and the same cameras are in Stock at Amazon France
. Sorry german folks, you still have to wait on Amazon Germany
JAPAN -> As usual they get the hot stuff before anybody else: Amazon Japan has almost everything in Stock!

3 years ago |Just so you know, I work in Saturn in Poland and we have NEX-5 with 16mm pancake lens since last week
I even had the chance to play with it and have to say that it is very nice camera but it really isn’t best choice for someone who want’s FULL manual control but I can live with it considering how small it is

3 years ago |Compared to E-PL1 it is smaller, screen is great, it is fast, and the quality is just great. I miss EVF(hopefully that rumor about OLED EVF is true) and easier manual control cause the GUI itself is quite nice. For know I’d say that I starting to love NEX-5 for how it feels in hand and how easy it is to use when in iA mode, and if it turns out to work well with legacy lenses like m42 I’ll say that I love it completely.
So to answer your question in one sentence. I prefer NEX.

3 years ago |The Sonystyle website of P.R.China has pre-shipped the NEX 5C. The price 4999+1RMB may be the lowest in the world, which is for the body, 1855 lens, battery and FIFA2010 football.

3 years ago |Maybe the availability of NEX-5 in EU has anything to do with that the movie mode is according to EU standards.
The NEX-3 is a strictly US (and Japan) camera in movie mode and there is, as I understand, no EU version on the way. NEX-5 seems to be for both regions (one for each).
So all together there are: NEX-3 US version, NEX-5 US version, NEX-5 EU version.

Please can you tell me how the movie mode for the “EU version” is different from the “US version”? Many thanks!
Erik dP
3 years ago |Sure Sam!
In EU the frame rate is standardized to a mutiple of 25 frames per second.
In US the frame rate is usually a multiple of 30.
Using e.g. 30fps in a country having 50Hz cycles of power, the end result may end up being a flashing film. I tried filming with a Sony pocket camera (30fps) in a street corner vs my Panasonic TZ7 (25fps) and the trafic lights were flashing for the sony camera. I tried a profecional video camera set to US standard and ended up with a flashing end result due to the indoor light.
If you try to mix different sources you might also end up with artifacts.

3 years ago |It’s not really in stock at Amazon, there are just Amazon-related stores selling it “through” Amazon. Hopefully Amazon itself will get some in. NEX deserves to be sold by Amazon.

Thanks! I was secretly hoping that you were going to say “25fps”, but didn’t want to prompt you in case it was just a rumour! As you know, despite the frequency issues, many consumer products ship with 30fps in Europe.
The cadence of 25fps is more like that of film, as it is so close to the standard of 24fps. However to offset all of this, we are far from free of artifacts due to the cameras automated regulation of exposure, by setting its own choice of shutter speed, aperture and iso. By all accounts it has a tendency towards higher shutter speeds (staccato style movement on many sample videos containing movement). Ideally in Europe we would want it to keep to 1/50 for standard shooting. As it is regulating the shutter speed itself we can end up in banding issues under fluorescent lights because the shutter speed is out of sync with that of the frequency of the ac powering them. You’ve probably seen those annoying bands of vertically moving dark patches. So we probably have to wait for the nex-7 to avoid these, and other similar, issues!!

I have already secured a copy from Singapore but waiting on the Alpha mount adapter.
