6 months ago |Too much of a deal was made about that translucent mirror. Who, from those who actually take photos, care about that?

Sony didn’t deliver their 12fps focusing capability onto their flagship. what do you say about that if the advantage of this technology is to increase fps????
he has also forgotten that main purpose of DSLR is for still image not for Video. good if you can improve its video but not on the expenses of the still image. if that is the case, then you are targeting a wrong audience here

The A77v is $1100 currently. Both the current models completely outstrip what Canon is offering in the same price category, so quit getting hyped up over a camera that, at fully 3x the price, had better be superior in every aspect… even though it isn’t superior in EVERY aspect.
The light loss at the mirror is totally moot with the A99v. That sensor is phenomenal, period. Less 1/3 of a stop, closer to 1/4, is, again, for all intents and purposes, no loss. And if you’re truly feeling put out, please remember that it is better to underexpose your images ever so slightly in the first place.
As for the A99v focusing, it could support the 12fps focusing, it just can’t support 12fps shooting at full res. It’ll do 10 at 1.5x crop, kind of like a NEX-6, actually, but with faster AF.
Andy knows that the main purpose of the modern DSLR is to create images, whether moving or not moving… and while he is almost exclusively a still photographer, he acknowledges that the cameras are moving on in this direction, whether or not the rest of the shooting world wants them to or not.
Andy is a guy who actually takes photos, and is extraordinarily successful doing so. Nigel Barker: one of the biggest names in fashion photography. Brian Michael Smith, MeRa Koh… for some reason or another these people seem to be successful with SLT, shooting things that we wish we could participate in on a daily basis, each of them making six figures shooting Sony SLT. If that’s not justification enough for you, you’re simply biased against the Sony ideology.
When the Translucent mirror goes away, and global shutter takes over, and PDAF on sensor hits speeds that meet or exceed modern PDAF in-body, especially where tracking is concerned… EVERYONE will be happy. And everyone will benefit. And you will see Andy doing more videos about how the SLT was merely the first step toward the future. The F65 camcorder is the next. Sooner or later, the two will meet in the middle. And wo be to Nikon and Canon when Sony gets there first.
