SAR reader Meng sent me this: “Share a stunning video by Khairil Bahar where he uses RX100, NEX system and other Sony Handycam series for some of his short film production. http://www.youtube.com/user/
Hosam: “I would like to share my actual project, about our local wheel-chair basketball-team here in Ulm/Germany. Captured on the little and powerful Sony NEX-7 with a nice set of lenses and equipment. As always, I would really appreciate your support, as we are tryin to push their popularity…motivated by the human spirit for respect and social intercourse. https://vimeo.com/54108761”
Gene: “Being an owner of the A77 since they first hit the market, I follow the developments with Sony’s new technology very closely. I’m a Hard Core photographer, with a background in Industrial Design, so I have been thinking for months about improvements that could be made.
To that end, I’ve written an open letter to Sony, outlining the features that would help the serious amateur, the Hard Core guy.
Just posted on my blog… http://preferredaperture.blogspot.com/”
Robert: “I’m not sure if you’re interested in this sort of thing, but we just started using the Sony a57 and some Minolta and Sony lenses for our low budget film productions. Here’s a teaser trailer with all footage shot on the a57. 720p Vimeo version: https://vimeo.com/54241839 1080p Youtube version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRTUM0aP63I”

6 months ago |Having read Gene’s open letter to Sony, I can appreciate everything he says, (Must also say great pictures and descriptions on your site Gene).
He does say, however, that he thinks “…that because the marketing mavens lean toward making everything easy for the guy who always shoots Jpegs…” with regard to using the facilities of the A77. If that were the case, Gene, surely Sony would not have used such an absolutely poor Jpeg engine in the camera and surely they would have done their best to improve it as soon as possible.
I love my A65 but the Jpeg engine stinks and I really have lost all hope that Sony is learning and improving in this area. They really should give us a proper firmware update for our cameras to let us know they are serious about these things because if they don’t, I for one will never buy Sony again because I don’t believe in, and certainly can’t afford, their policy of ‘want new firmware..buy our new camera’.
Last chance, Sony. You must have developed a better Jpeg engine so give us A77/A65 owners the firmware we deserve. If you haven’t got better firmware…then shame on you.

6 months ago |I have to agree completely with Lost Hope. Firmware upgrades are not a high priority. But a good part of that company mentality comes from the market. I worked at Microsoft as a software engineer for more than a decade. They were completely driven by adding new features. The sad fact was that adding a handful of trivial “new” features made people line up at midnight to get the new version, where fixing a problem that caused a crash in a particular situation did not.
What I would really like to see is an A99 / A77 model like the Nikon D800E, with no AA filter, and some of the hardcore features I wish for, and I’m sure there are others I haven’t thought of. Just a crumb offered to the small group of hard core users that love their product.
