Sony trying to push factory restore in January.
![]()
I keep getting news about Sony’s factory situation. As you know the situation is much worse than it was back in march after the Tsunami in Japan. The good news is that floodwaters is receding from the industrial area of Ayutthaya where Sony factories are located. Sony is now pushing to restore full production within two month. If all works best and if also suppliers will manage to restore their full production capability than Sony could restart the NEX-7 and A77 production in January. This means new Stock of cameras could arrive in February.
But this is the best case scenario. You will definitely not find any new stock of A77 and NEX-7 cameras this year
Sony has some reserves of A65 and NEX-5n cameras that can be sold during the Christmas time. That’s it.

2 years ago |The big question: Has Sony some NEX-7 produced before the floods and if so are these cameras available before Christmas? Some say yes and some say no. There is still no official press release from Sony

2 years ago |Just a very small amount.

2 years ago |What about compact cameras? Does the flood affect the production of whole CyberShot line? I ask because we ordered some of compact cameras and it is hard to say when we will get them.

2 years ago |Yea – it never rains in Wales….
Don Cox
2 years ago |It rains almost every day in Wales, but there are no gigantic floods, nor earthquakes.
Sony have had a factory in Wales for decades. I think it currently produces high end video cameras.

2 years ago |Should shift production to Australia, then perhaps Sony Australia could justify why we get charged so much more locally for Sony gear than overseas (Labour costs in Australia are rather expensive, hahaha, hay well at least they would have an answer the next time I asked them why the big cost differences.)

2 years ago |I have decided not to get this camera after a long wait since Aug.
Sony announcement was too early and eager to show off it’s product without any preparation of production. Sorry Sony.
Etc Nikon/ Pana only took less than a month to be in the market after announcement

2 years ago |You have to get on your mind that this isn’t Sony’s mistake. First of all, local residents should be well, and then let go camera production. Peoples health is now important, not production of cameras.

2 years ago |But Sony was in the market after announcing the A65/A77. It’s just that further production was affected by the flood.
NEX 7, yes, it was a bit rushed.

Can you ask your informed sources, if the factory workers are paid when they are are out of work for months? That is more important than having a NEX under the christmas tree.
Gerald
2 years ago |I don’t know the situation on the Sony factory. But usually in Thailand the workers will be fired and then re-employed when needed. The government of Thailand pays around 60 US-Dollar per month to workers of flood-affected factories.

2 years ago |Geez! Can’t someone be worried about human beings as well? As long as it doesn’t become a political discussion, what’s the harm about one unrelated question?

2 years ago |Because people here are often accused of being insensitive when discussing time-scales for a product that has been delayed due to a natural disaster.
There are plenty of other sites to offer sympathy to those affected by these events.
The comment “That is more important than having a NEX under the christmas tree.” is an example of this.

2 years ago |We should all know about how the products that we like are made, so that we can make an informed choice about whether to buy them or not.
I’m not necessarily saying “don’t buy them if they’re made in factories where conditions are bad”, but we should try to be informed consumers.
This applies particularly to expensive, labour-intensive products – such as cameras!

2 years ago |Has anyone heard a status about their AMAZON NEX-7 pre-order?
Reading this site it seems the Sony Store has sent updates to customers setting their expectations but the only thing I got from Amazon was an email if I still wanted the thing. YES!!!
Cheers,
Bill

2 years ago |I think Sony will play the “there are a few cameras coming” card for a while to keep many of us reading their bi-weekly notices for a few months. I received an email from them assuring me my nex7 order would be shipped on the 11th. Based on this, I proceeded to order some Leica lenses… just this week I got the new notice that no cameras will be shipped to the USA this week and to keep checking every two weeks – also they said that we are going to love the camara…
I was able to return the Leica lenses but I think Sony could have handled this better. Certainly I have no confidence on their notices at this point. At least we may be able to see what Fuji has in store for a mirrorless camera with interchagebale lenses. The wait maybe worth it after all.
