(SR5) And now new pics of the Sony NEX-3n!

And here is the new NEX-3n seen from all the angles. As I told you before it shares the same NEX-F3 sensor.

4 months ago |Yes, now were back to the pack of playing cards design. back and ofrth back and forth, and sony wonders why its losing money since 2008. Keep pissing customers off and you will make lots of money..not. Simple economics sony, learn it, before samsung buys your ass out.

4 months ago |Selling good looking camera is bad in your opinion? Maybe the old F3 has more features, but it was ugly, I won’t buy that cam. Ever. I rather go for the 5N or the original 5. Or the 6, but for more money. This new 3N make me rethink my option. You may say the look of the camera is not important, all that matter is the picture quality right? Well, that’s what my A850 is for.

4 months ago |good looking camera? when did i say a pack of playing cards of a camera looks good? a 4 year old child could design a better looking camera.ad a big fat lens on that thing and it looks like a toilet bowl on a pack of cards.
sonystool
4 months ago |never said this camera looks good. Read more carefully.

4 months ago |looks nice and tiny, shame about the accessory port though.
now the big question: how much?
zakstev
4 months ago |Not tiny, quite large. On the same plan as the original plastic-bodied NEX-3. Appearance is nearly identical. Much nicer looking than the 3F.
All the plastic NEXES are larger and heavier, including the 3, 3F and 6 models.
The metal-bodied NEX-5 models are smaller and lighter and better-looking, with a nicer grip.

I think they will do well.

4 months ago |Personally I’m glad they are leaving the Smart Accessory Shoe out of the 3n. It more clearly differentiates the 3 line from the 5 line, which becomes more distinct from the 6 line, which is differentiated from the 7 by controls and its sensor.
If this is the way they’re going, I’m all for it, it leaves four product lines that represent clear choices.

4 months ago |I like it. Could be the NEX bestseller.
RD
4 months ago |Looks better than the previous version. They went back to the older style grip, which is a good thing in terms of aesthetics. The F3 had a nice big grip, but it looked funny because it didn’t sit flush with the new, taller top plate and because it had the shutter button on it.
Frank

4 months ago |So what are the improvements in this model over the previous- just aesthetics (depending on the person of course)?

4 months ago |Finally! Design is as good as nex performance.
This is the real nex as it must be. Just over 3 years of experiments over customers
Frank
4 months ago |They have been experimenting on Alpha users for 6 years, what makes you think this is the end?
Stig
4 months ago |No external microphone possible ???
Wayne Summers
4 months ago |Looks good but I can’t really see the point. The older model to me is more functional. I can’t use a adapter with this so I can use a radio trigger or just use a pc sync cord with a small flash. I think the only reason sony did this was because the F3 was a little bit better than it was supposed to be because If it had a built in hotshoe I would have never got the nex-6. I have both at the moment and I really don’t see much of a difference beside slightly better build and smaller size. This camera is a bit backwards and is crippled as far as I can see. I am sure it will take awesome natural light photos but there is so much more it could have done. Whats the point of paying for interchangeable lenses to be stuck with a pop up flash??
Funny1
4 months ago |You really demand this much on a BASE model?
Mare
4 months ago |Did they really put APS-C sensor in the BASIC model?? If they could do that, why on earth wouldn’t they put hotshoe (with a small hotshoe flash) instead of pop-up flash? If someone thinks he/she should go to the bigger sensor camera (in order to have better pictures), why would you assume that person wouldn’t appreciate hotshoe?
xxxx
4 months ago |That’s the idea, Wayne. They want to further differentiate it from the higher model.
tanten
4 months ago |and what battery will be here? np-fw50 would fit here?
CTPhotographX.com
4 months ago |Hardware… The new firmware.
So losing the accessory port doesn’t bode well for new flash shoe on other cameras. Sony waffles to the point where they could change it again at any time… and stop supporting anything at any time.
What confidence would any 3rd party maker have in anything for creating Xony accessories?
Answer: “0″

4 months ago |You make it sound like anyone relying their business on Sony gear would be an utter fool. Oh wait.
gman
4 months ago |It’s a shame they kept the small grip on the 3 series again. It’s the reason I sold my 3 for the 5n and would never go back.
Andrew
4 months ago |What does this camera have that the F3 doesn’t, other than a slightly more attractive look and a 16-50mm kit option? Does it have wifi? If it’s basically the same camera then they really need to price it at $499 with the 16-50mm included.
AG
4 months ago |Agree, the compact lens is a must at the $500 price.
Wayne Summers
4 months ago |thats why I am sticking with the f3 I may just get another one after this comes out since the price should drop even further. I really like the RX1 kinda look to it but I just can’t. The 16-50 kinda sucks. I sold mine and it will suck even more with this new camera because as soon as you zoom the f-stop jumps causing you to bump up the iso. If your shooting with lots of light then the lens is actually not so bad but the construction seams kinda delicate as well.
quobetah
4 months ago |Does it have 60p now?
Me
4 months ago |Oh man, Full HD and 16-50 zoom lens, I’m getting rid of my M43 gears.
GreenLens
4 months ago |Great ergonomics of the 3 line now! F3 was a joke. The next 5 should be as small as it is, with more optional accessories. And the 6 is completely redundant.
anon
4 months ago |No, I’m seriously considering the 6. Cheaper cam with built-in EVF.
cefan
4 months ago |It has a zoom toggle (like a P&S camera) near the shutter button!!!
Nik
4 months ago |Now that the 16-50 is becomimg standard I assume this tiny size will become the standard for the 3 series. The F3 made no sense to me from a business standpoint, even if kit was at introduction kind of a better deal than the 5N.

4 months ago |I’m sure its the non hotshoe that’s keeping your photos from going into the national galleries. Newsflash, you’re not one who should talk. I use the hotshoe to put viewfinders on, you ever heard of those things or were you born at the time when everyone holds a camera like a dirty diaper, kid?
taran

4 months ago |I already have a NEX6. Great compact camera and the EVF is a must for video. I am considering to get a second body though to avoid lens swapping. Also, if the battery dies on one camera, I have a second battery available from the second camera assuming both cameras use the same battery. So, for the purpose of having a 2nd body, I wonder whether this NEX3 would suffice, or I’d be better off to wait and see what Sony brings forth with the new NEX5 or NEX7 sequel.
zakstev
4 months ago |If you get a second body, why not a NEX-5N if you can still find one at the reduced price?
Wayne Summers
4 months ago |I am actually thinking of doing the same thing I also have a nex-6 and a F3 I have a half body case on both and I think this makes the F3 look a lot better. I had the 50mm 1.8 and I think maybe that and the 35mm or the cz 24 will do well for events. I have a nikon sb-28 flash with a pc sync cord and hotshoe adapter that I put on the nex-6. They sell an adapter for the F3 that has a pc sync terminal so if need I can use the flash for both cameras. My A850 broke and I miss it but I love how portable the nex is. I can still do pro shoots with the La-Lea2 adapter with my Alpha CZ lenses so I may later get a A900 used or wait for the Nex full frame.

4 months ago |Why the reversed Off-On direction (counterclockwise) from, say, the a58 that immediately precedes this in SAR, where “off_on” is clockwise? One would think this is one “universal” that Sony could decide on…
John Maverick
4 months ago |I don’t pay much attention to the 3 line, but that’s a far cleaner design than the NEX 3F. Really like it! The older model the bottom ledge and shutter button never appealed to me.
LR
4 months ago |The design is cleaner, the length shortened a bit, yes. But top top edge still exceed the lens like the F3, 6 and 7.
John Maverick
4 months ago |Yes, I’d hate it if the body dimensions did not exceed the lens.
xxxx
4 months ago |+1. Really like the new look. I think F3 is the ugliest NEX ever.
John Maverick
4 months ago |This must be the smallest NEX produced so far. I think it’s likely SONY moved stuff around internally to create additional space or else, they’ve chosen to use a different battery.
spaceman
4 months ago |It appears small, but if you look at the sensor plane then the 3N is significantly thicker than the 5R disregarding the handgrip. Similarly to what the 3 was compared to 5. So I think that the same battery should fit, but who knows.
Very nice design though.
Ario
4 months ago |Looks far better than the f3…

4 months ago |At least you could hold the f3, this thing is made for a 3 year olds hands.

4 months ago |if the top door is for pop-up flash, then where is the smart connector?
Wayne Summers

4 months ago |A good move to distinguish NEX 3 from Nex 5. How about the price?
JesperMP
4 months ago |Small and cute. It will sell. Too bad, I liked the grip on the F3.
This is a bit too cramped for my medium sized hands.
The trigger button should have been where the playback button is.
nic_os
4 months ago |Sony’s designers should sometime understand what every designer knows:
the body cannot be smaller than the diameter of the main lens the camera is sold with.
Freddo
4 months ago |Utter rubbish.

Jason
4 months ago |Freddo, Rubbish? How do you mean? Please explain why this camera is utter rubbish.
Jason
4 months ago |Nic_os, Where are you seeing a side view that the lens diameter is taller than the body? Only a fool would design such a camera.
nic_os
4 months ago |In all pics, including the above face, the on-body lens ring is bigger than the rest of the body. The whole is more obvious in the nex-5′s (all of them) and less here. Maybe the perspective exaggerates, but i think it is not just that.
nic_os
4 months ago |More specifically:
5r or 5n camera height=58.8mm. c3 camera=60mm
sel1855 lens diam=62mm.
It’s a Sony.
tikaboo
4 months ago |Not likely on past performance with the 3 line but I do hope they include the touch screen. In fact I think it makes more sense on the base models for P&S upgraders than the higher end models where physical controls are preferred.
Mart
4 months ago |Can they scrap the degradable black rubber grip idea for Nex 6 and Nex 7 to produce a white semi pro series body? This looks cool but not something I wanted.
