(SR5) First picture of the NEX-F3!

This is the first leaked picture of the Sony NEX-F3! As you can see it has the same NEX-C3 16 megapixel sensor (with improved image quality due the new BIONZ processor) and it has a new built-in flash and the 180 degree tiltable LCD screen like the Samsung MV800. It will replace the current NEX-C3. Some NEX-C3 kits have been already marked as discontinued at BHphoto (Click here), Digitalrev (Click here) and very low in Stock at Amazon (Click here).
As I told you before it will be announced in mid May along the new A37 and two other new A and E mount zoom lenses!

2 years ago |built in flash on the 3 series? maybe the next 5 series will get a hotshoe, or even better, the 7 body!
Renato S.
2 years ago |this is not a built-in flash, just the normal port for the external flash.
steven
2 years ago |it shows the flash button there, doesn’t that mean it has a built in flash?
Renato S.
2 years ago |that’s clearly the normal port – there is even the fingernail gap to help open it – and I don’t think that there is room for flash on the right side, maybe it’s a new type of external flash, one that pop-up when you press that button, I don’t know.
Renato S.
2 years ago |well, maybe they get rid of the PLAY button, there is, but it seems so unlikely, but maybe that’s why the picture is cropped at that point. well, it’s possible but improbable I think.
Rooru S.
2 years ago |The NEX-7 got plenty of space even with 2 dials and a Hot-shoe present so I don’t think is that TOO hard to get pop-up flash in NEX-F3
timmilo
2 years ago |It does have an external flash, the port is for adding the evf.

2 years ago |Nice white color !
Matt
2 years ago |Wait so no accessory port? Bummer, so no EVF then
Notice it is AVCHD now also (and nothing about AVCHD lite) so that means the 3 series is going 1080p finally.
JonasM
2 years ago |It’s the entry model for the true P&S crowd converts. Hence Sony integrates the flash and kills the accessory port(?). Makes sense to me and who in their right mind would put the 400 dollar EVF addon on this kind of camera? For what it is, it looks like a winner to me.
Matt
2 years ago |I would. I would buy the EVF and use on a few successive models. But it also means you couldn’t use any bigger flash either (which ‘consumers’ do use). Anyways, it looks like it does have the port (from the photo) I suspect the description was wrong.
onlyme
2 years ago |That looks like the accessory port to me because there is a recess towards the front that you put your fingernail in to flip open the flap. If there is a built in flash perhaps it is to the right of the accessory port.

2 years ago |I know it’s a bit ahead of time but if they announce at photokina a successor or the NEX-5n, I think that the NEX-5-whatever have to have more buttons than the NEX-3-brother. It can’t be just the magnesium alloy body and everything the same, at least one more button, but more preferably another dial. I think it’s possible to have a NEX-5n successor announced this year, but not a NEX-7, I guess, it would not make sense. But more importantly, where the fuck are the fucking lenses?!
Matt
2 years ago |There is also the touch screen on the 5n, ISO100, better build and 1080p (though that difference is about to disappear). I am hoping though that the ’3′ series becomes more like the current 5n and the ’5′ series moves up to more like the ’7′ series with more control points (I think we will see more of the Tri-nav interface) but maybe without EVF, bit smaller, Add-on EVF available, no hot-shoe (though that would be nice).
Rukkot
2 years ago |There’s another difference. No remote connection in the current NEX3 series. In NEX5 cameras there is an infrared port.
Rooru S.
2 years ago |I see there, the “smart” accessory port, so maybe the built in flash is next to the accessory port like the NEX-7. But if they keep the smart accessory port that means. 1. Maybe the EVF will work with this model 2. Future accessories are coming (because if they don’t drop the port, that means they still will support it…
Wondering, if they will still bundle the HVL-F7S flash…
JonasM
2 years ago |FYI: there is no smart accessory port on the NEX-7: next to its built-in flash sits the mount for the Sony external flash. No port.
Rooru S.
2 years ago |EERRRMMM you don’t get it… I’m talking about the POSITION of the built-in flash. I’m not saying the NEX-7 has the smart accessory port. I KNOW what the NEX-7 has. Maybe I had to write “just like the NEX-7 has the built-in flash next to the Hot-shoe.
Beaur
2 years ago |DUHHHHH The nex-7 doesnt need a smart accessory port. FYI It doesnt need a nex mic, evf, or flash.

2 years ago |I think it’s a good idea to further separate the 3 and the 5 series. Make the F3 a true upgrade for P&S and you’ll get more sales. That means built-in flash!
Taki012
2 years ago |Should SONY pay patent fee to SAMSUNG?
Seems SAMSUNG should have got the patent for flip screen design since they release MV800?
JonasM
2 years ago |Only of they applied for a patent.
Catalin
2 years ago |I think the NEX-5n successor will also have a built-in flash. The miniaturization technology has probably reached the point where a built-in flash is possible in such small bodies.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |it always was. Check random tiny cellphone – even though it’s a joke – the flash is in there.
Lofote
2 years ago |The flash should be far enough from the optical axis, that why a popup flash like in the NEX-7 or a addon flash like the other NEXs is better than the built-in ones.
Lemon
2 years ago |So Nex F3 will not be the rumoured fixed lens model? Wonder if Sony will introduce it with collapsible lens?
SonyA77
2 years ago |A NEX camera will not be fixed lens, the “E” in NEX stands for E-mount.
Dan@THEME
2 years ago |Nice white finish, but still a colossal lens mounted. I wonder when Sony gets down to the most important issues – we don’t need ever new bodies, but smaller lenses.
Clifton
2 years ago |Although I can see the appeal of smaller lenses, I would take bigger, higher quality over smaller, lower quality and very few pancake lenses on other formats can perform like comparable normal lenses. Personally, I don’t really see much reason to have smaller lenses, a CSC camera is never going to be pocket sized and even if it was, you cant take pictures with a camera thats in your pocket/bag. Whenever I go out with my A700 and heaving 24-70 2.8, its in my hand, ready to take photos.
Miki61
2 years ago |While Sony is coming out with new entry level cameras again, Nikon seems to come out with the D600 in September, a cheap FF using Sony’s 24 mpx FF sensor.
Anyway I don’t believe that Sony is trying to compete with Nikon. They seem to work together very well. Sony took all its OVF models out of the way of Nikon’s similar models while Nikon was kind enough not to compete with the NEX series when they came out with their mirrorless V1/J1 by not placing an APS-C sensor inside it.
brahimcha
2 years ago |I think it’s useless to have a built in flash. I bought the HVL-F20S and i can confirm that if you ever need a flash (extreme conditions). you’d better have the F20S with a stronger flash and bounce capabilities.
The flash that is delivered by default with the Nex is really not that good, so i can’t imagine what a built in flash would be.
So to sum up, i don’t think they added a flash to the Nex-F3. If they have the space to add a flash, then it would be lots wiser to put an EVF in that space instead…
brahimcha
2 years ago |Anyway, just check the picture above. If there were a flash it would be practically hidden and would reflect all over the lens…

2 years ago |OT: Andrea are you following the rumors concerning Nikon D600? They speak of a low priced 24mpix FF, and you’re talking abouto a similiar cam from Sony too..Where there’s smoke..
Sky_walker
2 years ago |So far it seems like D600 gonna be far cheaper than A99. Andrea was speaking about 2000-2600 USD while rumors about D600 report something around 1500 USD which would crush A99 and wipe a floor with it.
Noone will care about 24MPx A99 for 2500 USD when they can have NIKON with same same sensor for far lower price. Sorry but Sony’s Full Frame story seem to be over. At least: over with Nikon playing them like a toys.
Hellven
2 years ago |it cant be arround 1500 USD, so how much would cost the future D400, yes, because Nikon doesnt hava a good cheap camera for sports (FF or APS-C), and the D300s is now outdated
what can happen is the D600 have the FF 24mpx sensor and bigger buffer and more fps than the D800, but about the same price range
but this camera probably will never happen, the D400 will be priced arround 1800-2000 USD, and that wont leave any space to this one.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |Only thing is that in 2010 there were rumors that D300s successor will be a very cheap FullFrame camera what perfectly covers with this rumor, meaning that the D400 is actually D600.
Besides – I’m not really much into Nikon rumors, though the stuff I seen look quite possibly, maybe besides crazy-low price, although D800 also have really low price for the features it offers, so… why not?
Hellven
2 years ago |if the D600 is a dumbed down D800 what nikonions will use for sports without spending almost €6000 for a D4?
if nikon wants a FF to do the D300 job (high fps, buffer, excelent built quality, superb viewfinder…) they will have to price it high, the D300s wasn’t cheap, imagine if its a FF… it would reach D800 price easily
C
2 years ago |I think an entry level full frame is a great idea. Full frame in a body like a d90. 24mp would be fine. 3fps. Single card slot. Decent viewfinder. Not weather sealed. Keep the cost low, but provide a decent full frame sensor.
If it was less than $2000 new that would be awesome.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |Yep, I think that right now whoever releases cheap, low-cost Full Frame is going to be a winner. Especially in a market where APS-C isn’t so deciding factor as it used to be because of the mirrorless cameras invasion.
I hope it will be Sony, but seeing rumors about 1500$ full frame Nikon makes me think noone will buy into Sony while being aware than Nikon plans to release it’s own cheap full frame very soon.
There’s also other possibility: Nikon has nothing as close to being released as rumor suggests – it’s released simply to keep people from jumping into Sony camp when Nikon guys found out about A99 “main feature”.
Either way – with stuff floating about full frame Nikon for 1500$ Sony doesn’t stand much of a chance with A99.

C
2 years ago |Lol yup. I mean, how old is the C3 anyway?
The NEX lineup hasn’t been going long but the entry level has already gone 3, C3 and now F3. Three bodies in as many years.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |they always could refresh it like PENs – every year serving the same camera with very minor tweaks here and there.
Vivek
2 years ago |There is a clear advantage to users like me.
If you think about it, it is only the testers who would buy up every new camera at the list price, followed by some who have the urge to buy every new toy that appears.
I can wait another year and pick one up at 50% list price just like the NEX-C3.
More bodies and keep refreshing them every year! I am all for it!
Vivek
2 years ago |Why would they leak such an useless crop? Just show it all.
Would the 5N replacement have an integrated EVF?
This is a serious question as I can wait for one with an integrated EVF/flash port and the 16MP sensor instead of a half baked camera.
JonasM
2 years ago |You think the 5N is half baked?
Vivek
2 years ago |Any camera that would only allow EVF or a Flash is half baked. The same goes for Olympus/Panasonic and other brand cams.

2 years ago |I want FF SLT – A99!
Please show first picture of A99 (if there is any)! D800 & 5D3 are really attractive that I am tempted to sell all my alpha bodies, G & ZA lenses.
In particular the 5D3, it is all-rounded. Fast & Accurate AF, Good continuous AF tracking, Promising pixel counts, Very impressive high ISO performance (including in movie capturing mode), nice colour tone.
I believe, A99 cannot win in AF (no matter single AF or continous AF tracking), ISO. The colour tone is 50-50 and rather subjective though I personally prefer Sony’s tone. Hope A99 will not have the max ISO locked to 1600 for movie mode!
Be quick to let us see the spec of A99 please! I want to know whether i should wait for it, or jump to canikon~

2 years ago |Finally .. This camera by all means looks winner to the point and shoot upgrader and to the average consumer ..touch screen.. Flip screen and reasonable price !! .. I just hope the new BIONZ is much better than the old one .. We all know nikon’s and canon’s processors r much better than Sony’s .. So let’s hope Sony did something about it ‘n

i just came back from Sony private launching invitation last night (few hours ago)
I saw and play NEX-F3 for awhile there….
and i didnt know that this status is still anonymous…but it’s a real thing, not rumors…
i thought this camera had been release for awhile (usually we’ve got late shipment, for excample, only 9 of D800 had been sold in here)
If i knew it, i would take pictures of the camera NEX-F3 in details for you guys
NEX-F3 is with much much much better grip…
btw i’m in indonesia

2 years ago |Is there any reason why they cannot put Image stabilization in nex camera bodies? I thought MFT has one or more with this built in? I like the Nex, but since I own alpha lenses (without IS/OS of course), using an adapter partially negates the advantage the Nex has over SLT in terms of ISO performance…
Maxwell
2 years ago |I only guess:
- sensor IS needs more space, so maybe bigger flange distance
- sensor IS generates more heat in camera body
- sensor IS generates more sound noise in camera, and then in video

2 years ago |Someone finally made a hotshoe for the NEX! As long as the acc. port is there, no worries.

2 years ago |this will sell like crazy…waiting for more extensive test… I know this is kind of silly question but…could TTL work? I only see one contact but just asking…
Vivek
2 years ago |Not with this one. No TTL.
I never could understand why Sony never made such an accessory (for TTL)???
They make a “flash extender”, a larger screw flash and that stupid over priced and useless OVF for the 16mm but not a hotshoe.
Wires need to be connected properly, somewhere, it seems.

2 years ago |I think Sony should have focused resources on E-mount lenses and let the current Nex-C3 production run a bit longer. It’s not a bad little camera. They could improve firmware, menus and lenses.
Did I mention needing better E-lenses

It really has a pop up flash! the best of both worlds, hopefully it can use the same EVF as the 5N.
Chris
2 years ago |+ Popup flash added with simultaneous support for EVF
(-) don’t quite like the design, too soft for me.
What will the successor of the 5N look like?
Or will Sony phase out the 5N since the F3 almost
has it all? I like the touch screen for focussing.
I wish for a hotshoe on the 5N+ since I rarely use the flash oncamera.
