(SR5) Names, fps and availability of the next four Alpha cameras!

IMPORTANT: Today or tomorrow we will install the new SonyAlphaRumors theme. We will need your help to fix bugs and add new features! Hope you will like it! The main purpose of the theme is to make content even more accessible and also to build a new Sony community
The new rumor:
SonyAlphaRumors is pleased to share some new details about the next cameras! Four new APS-C cameras will be announced late August. All those cameras will be in Stock by September!
1) A55 (translucent) 16MP 10FPS EVF-1.44M 1.1X magnification 95% AVCHD full hd
2) A33 (translucent) 14MP 7FPS EVF-1.44M 1.1X magnification 95% AVCHD full hd
3) A560 14MP 7FPS MF recording AVCHD full hd
4) A580 16MP 7FPS MF recording AVCHD full hd
Those models will replace the actual $loc = $_SESSION['geoip'];
if ($loc == 'GB' OR $loc == 'UK')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'ES')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'IT')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'AT')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'DE')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'BE')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'AU')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'FR' OR $loc == 'FX')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'NL')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'CA')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'JA' OR $loc == 'JP')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($loc == 'US')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A550 }
if ($sel != '1')
{?>Sony A550 } ?> (which has been discontinued in Japan!).
All four will feature a HDR 6EV, 15 AF focus point, DOF preview, panorama/3D, ISO 100 (base). Let me say that I expect those cameras to be awesome and real competitor (if not better) of the Canon 7D. Autofocus during video recording is way faster than the Canon, High-ISO very very good and last but not least I like the new design

3 years ago |And still the question where is the successor of the A700?
I belive that the A5XX are very good cams. But i don’t think that this new 5XX Cams will have the functions of the 700! (Mirror Lockup, More buttons for direct access to the functions,…)
I think we do have enought low level cams from sony. Ok they forgot to implement video in the A500, 550,… and now they have to replace them with the video function and the A33,A55 are completly new models.
But i think the people who like to have a A700 (semi pro) or FF Cams are waiting to long for new models!!!!

All I’m waiting on is an Updated FF body and a NEX aimed at Reportage shooters.

3 years ago |“least but not last I like the new design”
The contrary, I hope? Not least?
If these are expected to be awsome competitors (if not better) of the 7D, then the A7XX’s (if it will appear) mission will be to wipe out the global photomarket for good, eh? And its price… oh, no, better not to mention…

3 years ago |“And still the question where is the successor of the A700?” – It’s called A55.
Maybe not A700 line but looking on features it should work superbly as an A700 successor.
Anyway: Nice to see FINALLY Sony cameras with depth of field preview! hehe. Not that most of people would use it, but occasionally it’ll be helpful for sure.
ISO100 as base? Sweet! No more ISO200 blasphemy!
New AF? Great! I’m wondering how many of these points gonna be cross (and really hope it won’t be one……..)
10FPS on A55? Now that’ll be top-of-the-line camera B) if the continuous AF will work well during the 10FPS series than it’s gonna be superb sport photography camera.
I wonder how the EVF will look like. any why it’s not 100% with the pellix camera.
Either way: All this stuff makes me wanna upgrade my old body, hehe, great thing!

3 years ago |A7XX when?
Ab
3 years ago |Think about it like this, they are going about this the correct way, they have to make sure the top of the line models have the best specs, if they release them first then by then end of the lower end, either their cameras will be obsolete or the lower end will perform better then the higher end.
The A700 replacement will arrive.

3 years ago |I thought the while point of a pelix (translucent) camera was that it uses an OVF, not an EVF. And that the mirror doesn’t move do it’s faster and no blackout between shots. If you have an EVF, why bother with the main mirror at all?
Mogila
3 years ago |On/Off is on the same place… how can they continue with this stupid thing!
Serpiente
3 years ago |Why are they called “transculent”?
Kevin
3 years ago |No, Devorama, the point of a “pelix,” or “translucent” camera is that it will use phase-detect AF in main-sensor live-view or movie mode. The semi-transparent mirror directs one stop of light (more or less) to the AF sensor. This probably also accounts for these cameras retaining ISO 100, as the pellicle mirror acts effectively like an ND filter.

3 years ago |…is the picture related to the new A5xx cameras?
That will be nice. Hope there are two dials and lots of photographic controls. This is the main disadvantage of sony cameras from A2,3,5 series – ergonomics and capabilities far short of D90.
I hope the new A5xx will be like D90 not like D5000

3 years ago |Pellicle mirrors remove the need for MLU; no mirror action, no mirror vibration. Hopefully we get MLU anyway for an extra stop of light-gathering ability in our long exposures, but this is likely to matter very little in 99.9% of real world use.

3 years ago |“Autofocus during video recording is way faster than the Canon, High-ISO very very good and last but not least I like the new design”
When u say that, do u mean that you may have seen how fast the autofocus is compared to the 7d, you saw some high iso sample pictures and u saw the design of the new cameras or did ur sources tell u it was like that and ur just saying u like the new design of the cameras based on the mock up pictures?
Joris
3 years ago |Don’t forget that it has been said this pellicle mirror design would lose only 1/3 EV (a third of a stop…0.3 EV). I hope it’s true…
Curious to see how the EVF would work. After reading a bit about OLED it doesn’t seem perfect yet.

3 years ago |Good to hear about this new cameras…. im wondering if it will be with the actual A-Mount? im exited to use my minolta lenses with HD video..
sam
3 years ago |EVF is a good idea for the pellicle mirror design. Since it loses some light, I believe the electronic view finder will compensate for this light loss by boosting sensitivity of the image that is being displayed.
I am still hopeing for a weather sealed nex 7 or nex 9 which is about the size and looks just like the Zeiss icon
I guess I just have to settle with the nex 5 for now….
Admin is the picture of the a7xx or the a55?
Sky
3 years ago |“im wondering if it will be with the actual A-Mount?” – yep.
“A7XX when?” – Take a look at A55 specs. It’s rightful successor of A700 going way beyond of what A700 was. The only flaw is EVF, though time will show how good it is.
“Admin is the picture of the a7xx or the a55?” – the picture is prototype of future Sony advanced DSLR – presented on PMA 2010. I have no idea which one that would be, though my bet is for the A55. AF light, top LCD, buttons layout close to A900… I doubt it’s A580, but: who knows?
“this pellicle mirror design would lose only 1/3 EV (a third of a stop…0.3 EV). I hope it’s true…” – I hope this too!!!
“I am still hopeing for a weather sealed nex 7 or nex 9 which is about the size and looks just like the Zeiss icon” – hehe, this would be a killer camera. Though I doubt we’d see it – too much dangerous for Sony DSLRs.
Zonkie
3 years ago |The translucent mirror will redirect 25% of the light to the autofocus sensor. This means it will lose 1/3 of a stop. It is not that much. Instead of shooting at ISO 100, you’ll need to shoot at ISO 133, instead of ISO 400 you’ll need ISO 533, etc… (or slower shutter speeds, obviously).
Still, for those who don’t need fast continuous autofocus during video recording (or the 10fps), it’s a pity to lose that 25% of light and the OVF. For normal photography having a flipping mirror (and MLU) seems a better choice. So for the normal cameras, the ISO 100 is the best news.
Though better news will be when they finally bring the A700 replacement!

3 years ago |Obviously the best way how to achieve 10fps is with open shutter. Like video just total readout of all pixels. It is the question how frames it could capture before camera slows down?
Hope the same feature will be also implemented in NEX-7.

At least give us an option to enable it or disable it.

3 years ago |Can anybody tell me, why 4 models will replace A550? I just don’t think it’s possible, that Sony will show 4 almost same models
xK
3 years ago |1) “those cameras to be awesome and real competitor (if not better) of the Canon 7D” – do you mean with respect to high-ISO image quality, FPS and “design”, or in general? There is a huge difference between the OVF in C7D and in A550. To compete with C7D, Sony would need to equip A560/A580 with MUCH bigger OVF…
2) One of the explanations for lack of MLU in newer 2xx-5xx Alphas is that Sony “optimized” the mechanical design, so the mirror and the shutter are driven by the same motor. As I understand, now, for A33 and A55 they need more independent mechanisms again (because in video mode you need to open the shutter and keep the mirror down, while in still mode you operate both). If the new four cameras share some design, maybe there is a chance that this new “separated” mirror/shutter mechanism is also used in A560/580? This would re-enable MLU in these cameras, right?

3 years ago |An A7xx will never come – cause Sony produces only for the low budget market. They believe, that they have lost the competition against nikon and canon.
… and this ist right. I use an Alpha 700 but only until the next photokina – then I will switch to nikon, because that is a professional !!!! photo-brand.

I use Sony cause I had serveral minolta in earlier time and a lot of lenses for them. I hoped that sony continous the professionality of minolta. But now I´m very dissapointed. And to your question — I will change to nikon after the photokina and I will give away my sony a 700. My lenses I will use further with my analog Minolta and Diafilms.

This isn’t a 100m sprint, it is a marathon, and the runners have just left the starting line. Sony might have some catching up to do, but I’m sure Canon and Nikon are turning their heads once in a while to see where Sony is!

Rumor: Sony to announce 4 new cameras with 14MP and 16MP APS-C sensors | Nikon Rumors
3 years ago |[...] Today Sonyalpharumors reported that Sony will release four new cameras with 14MP and 16MP APC-S sensors and guess what? One of the expected new feature is AF during video recording. Sounds familiar? The rumored Nikon D3100 DSLR is also expected to have continuous AF during video recording. My initial report about the D3100 having a 10MP sensor is probably wrong and Nikon may use this 14MP sensor from Sony. [...]
