Sony NEX-7 – Some Reasons Why I Might Want the NEX-7 INSTEAD of the Sony NEX-5N

2 years ago |After the negative comments I decided to watch it for myself. Complete fail. People who have the money and want more control and an EVF will get the 7, others will settle for the 5n. There might be some image quality difference between the sensors, but the biggest real problem would be just the file size.

2 years ago |The guy is a clown. He plays up the 24mp sensor in this video and his video “6 reasons not to buy the Sony a77” he complains about the sensor being too big. I questioned him on a few things and all he had to go back on were the Dpreview images shot with preproduction firmware. The guy has never even held a Sony camera and is making assumptions based on his personal opinion.

Yes, okay, we understand the lens can do the ‘all sharp’ thing. No need to devote every picture to that.

Come on guys… It’s basic math… Just one infinity landscape at f8 please… just one.
The closest thing that DPReview offers to infinity landscape is image number DSC00722. I cannot find a single point of sharp focus in that entire picture at 100%.

BTW… These are two different stories… The Video Review and the DPReview of the lens. The Video is stealing the show away from the lens sample shots.

2 years ago |Clyde, in that picture, I think he focused on the giraffe. The background is somewhat OOF. I look at the corner and they’re not smeared. The best infinity test shot should be done slanted, with the horizon spanning from one corner to the other. But so far, this lens is good for me. My favorite lens on A mount is the ZA 24/2, this lens managed to be smaller, faster, and with the same MFD. I know it’s not the same FOV, but I can make do with it.

2 years ago |From DPReview samples… image 690 is showing very impressive CA control on the edges at wide open aperture. Look at the glass handle on top of the bread tray. Just a little purple creeping in… not bad at all for wide open… very nice indeed. And just below that, the rim of bread on top tray has absolutely no CA at midfield wide open. That is very impressive indeed.

2 years ago |This is good news, however SONY still need to provide a good PORTRAIT LENS for the NEX cameras. Something like the classic 105mm lens for full frame cameras. The 50mm f/1.8 doesn’t do it, and is too expensive at $300.
Till then I’l still use my CCTV 75mm f/1.6 lens from eBay and my Rokkor 58mm f/1.2. I wish SONY has an AF lens that would beat these two at a decent price. SONY, do you read this ?

2 years ago |I do not know where you got this video but you should should pull it off the site immediately. He is incorrect on some many points that Sony might decide to sue, e.g., the adapter fits both the 7 & 5n, video is the same in both, he started mixing in Nikon model numbers, wild guess as to picture quality comparisons. Where is your editor? This is not April 1, the only day this review would be OK.

2 years ago |Haha, I love how he says the adapter and movie capabilities among others are an advantage of the NEX-7 over the NEX-5n. Um….can’t the NEX-5n use the adapter also and record the same quality of video? Then he states that he is fairly certain that the NEX-5n will have better image quality than the NEX-7. Got to give it to him, this guy is going for unique, people will watch this video and give him attention for how dumb he is.
