Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 lens production increased. And $60 price drop in US!
Fifteen months ago Sony announced that nice Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 but Sony never managed to produce enough lenses to fulfil the demand. According to top sources Sony finally found a way to increase the lens production and it’s expected to ship in large amount to EU and US stores in a few weeks. And destiny wants that today we had the very first price drop on that lens too! Sony authorized retailed Beachcamera is selling the lens with a $60 discount at Amazon (Click here) and on eBay (Click to check it out).
In Europe the lowest price I found was at Wex Germany (Click here). No real price drop in EU for now

6 months ago |I don’t mind high quality lenses being offered for a reasonable price, especially since cheaper alternatives are available these days like the Samyang/Rokinon 24mm t/1.5 Cine Lens for less than half the money. The era of whining-for-lenses should be definetly over.

6 months ago |It will be interesting to see whether the lenses are as good as the original batches, or better, or worse and…where will they be made?

I bought mine in the beginning – for $999 (Amazon). Then it disappear from the shelves and they increased the price to $1099.
So I think it is still above it’s original price.

6 months ago |I found it at the Airport in Amsterdam for 800€ this summer. Price-tag was 900€ but at the cash-desk they only wanted 800€. I did not complain
It’s a superb lens! It’s on my camera for at least 90% of the time.

6 months ago |I seriously hope Sigma could make a 24mm, either F1.8 or F2.0. and sell it for <$400USD, will probably kill some sales for this Zeiss?

6 months ago |+1. Couldn’t agree more. It’s too bad there aren’t more companies exploring this market, and that Sigma doesn’t appear to have enough capacity.

6 months ago |Exactly. Their 19 and 30mm are great, but if they made a 24mm f/1.4 to compete with the Panasonic 24 and Zeiss 24 at the same time…wow. While we’re talking about 3rd parties making what they do well, will Tamron please make us a 17-50 f/2.8 VC?!

6 months ago |Even if they drop the price five times that ($300), it would still be insanely expensive.

6 months ago |Are you kidding? If they sold this lens for $300 they would be FLYING off the shelves.
Mike
6 months ago |What he meant was probably 5 price drops if $60 each. So current price minus $300.
yosemite
6 months ago |That is what I meant, yes. I’d buy it for $600, but more than $700 is just crazy.
Hans
6 months ago |at Leica you pay 3000 or more for lenses without autofocus. So the Zeiss is actually a bargain!

6 months ago |they should pay you for taking this lens

6 months ago |Still would like a price drop of $100 or more. That would make it the same price it originally was when released.
