Sony did actually patent a 24-70mm f/2.0 GM lens design!

There’s no denying that the 28-70mm f/2.0 GM is an amazing lens. However, some were a little disappointed that it didn’t offer the classic “24mm” focal length at the wide end. That would have made it so much more useful!

Well we now have evidence Sony has at least about doing this lens. In this new patent published in December Sony describes the optical design of both, the official 28-70mm and an unreleased 24-70mm f/2.0 GM. I suspect Sony opted for the 28mm version because of size-weight-cost benefits. Still I wonder if Sony will ever do a 24-70mm f/2.0 GM. Do you think this would make sense for you?
