Curiosity: Canon says we and not Sony make the best sensors!

rx100sensor

I really had a laugh when reading that part of the Canon interview released at Dpreview. DP asked Canon why their sensors cannot compete with Sony sensors in terms of dynamic range. The answer was:

I’m not sure what measurements you’re looking at but when it comes to dynamic range for example we consider image quality as a whole, from low to high ISO sensitivities and on balance we consider our sensors to be the best.

Canon really believes their sensors are “currently the best on the market“! They are really living on another planet :)

I am not trying to play down Canon. Their DSLR are in many aspects superior to Sony SLT cameras. But when it comes to sensor performance they really denied the evidence. While every test from DxOmark shouldn’t be taken as a holy grail or as an absolute truth the difference in performance is really huge:

Like I told you in my previous post both companies will offer new kind of FF sensors in the upcoming 2015 cameras. That’s going to be exciting!

One more thing: Canon you make the best sensor? Than why you use the same RX100m3 sensor inside your new G7x? (Source: CanonWatch).

Zeiss posted those two new videos. You can use both lenses on your E-mount camera. One is the world’s best 85mm lens, the Zeiss Otus.  and the other one is the 35mm f/1.4 M-mount lens. And it may be that one day this new 35mm Distagon will be the “basic” for the Loxia version.

One of the strangest new products of the Photokina show is the new Voigtlander 40mm f/2.8 Heliar lens. The strange part is that one: It’s an M-mount lens that you can not(!) use on M-mount cameras (no helicoid to focus). It has been designed to use in combination with the [shoplink 29312 ebay]VM-E Close Focus Adapter (here on eBay)[/shoplink] only. And it has been designed and optimized for the Full Frame E-mount(!). The lens is very compact and weights 112grams only. It’s a collapsible lens.

Short note to readers and sources (patience with news posting)

Just a short note to ask for some patience to readers and sources who sent me news and rumor the last 10 days. I will post ALL I got but I need time to work on the material I received. Please keep in mind that unlike other big sites this is an amateur-hobby site. I do not work full-time here but only 1-2 hours per day on average. Thanks for your understanding :)

One more rumor: I am working on many A and E-mount info I got the last weeks. I repeat it again: There is an exciting event in January. Megapixel rush coming :)

Sigma says they will yet not make FE lenses. Will keep doing APS-C E-mount and A-mount.

Kazuto Yamaki CEO from Sigma talked to Focus Numerique (translation by SigmaRumors). And there are a couple of news related to Sony stuff:

2) Sigma will keep making APS-C E-mount lenses

3) Sigma will soon update the [shoplink 29294 ebay]24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 29295 ebay]70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM[/shoplink] lenses for A-mount.
