A couple of days ago Sony Japan said that Japanese shipments of the Sony RX1rIII will experience some delays because of higher than expected demand. PetaPixel dogged into this and learned that it is not only Japan that is experiencing a high volume of demand:

All of this is to say that the concern over asking price from voices online isn’t necessarily in line with those who are actually buying cameras. Pre-orders for the Sony RX1R III opened earlier this week, and retailers in North America expect to ship the camera starting July 31.

Dpreview tested the new Sony RX1rIII and concluded:

In practice we found that, while it lacks critical sharpness at the distances and apertures used for portraits (which may well not be what you’re after, anyway), it delivers all you might expect for landscape shots.

Sony Japan has issued a statement apologizing for possible delivery delays due to higher-than-expected pre-order numbers for the new Sony RX1rIII:

We have received many more orders than we expected, so it may take some time for your products to be delivered.
We are currently doing our best to meet your requests as much as possible, so we ask that you please wait a little longer.

So it seems that despite the negative reaction from the influencer world, actual demand is higher than expected!
