Sony at CES shows off new 8K TV and even a CAR!

This year CES show is once more all about 8K TV’s and automotive technology. We will have to wait til February to get some new E-mount gear ahead of the CP+ show.

The main takeaway from Sony’s presentation is that they are working very hard on sensor tech for the automotive industry. They even showed off this Vision-S car to display their new sensor tech:

  • CMOS image sensors which achieve high sensitivity, high definition and high dynamic range while also suppressing LED flicker*3 to deliver accurate object recognition, even in situations where conventionally detection has been difficult.
  • Solid State LiDAR which uses highly accurate distance measurement to gain a precise 3D grasp of real-life spaces.
  • Sensor fusion technology which merges the capabilities of sensors of varied attributes to enable early and accurate recognition, even in challenging conditions such as fog, backlight and night-time driving.
  • Time-of-Flight (ToF) in-cabin sensing solutions use distance measurement technology to detect and recognize people and objects inside the car. This information is used to provide an optimized infotainment system with intuitive interfaces such as gesture control and improve safety and comfort inside the vehicle.

I wonder if future Alpha cameras will take advantage of some of this new sensor tech…

Now live: Watch the Sony CES press conference

Do not expect any new Alpha Camera announcement today. But we will get a general glimpse into Sony’s 8k future and the new Xperia Plus phone with TOF sensor.

Capture One 20.0.1 released

Phase One updated the brand new Capture One 20 software. Here are the latest bugfixes:

  • Fixed an issue where tethering would not work correctly on MacOS Catalina 10.15.2.
  • Fixed an issue where using the Color Editor sometimes caused Undo to break.
  • Fixed an issue where a default Catalog would load on start-up instead of the previously used Document.
