Craig: “a documentary film was aired today that I shot all of the stills for with the Sony a7s, a7rII and a6000, including the movie poster. The filmmakers (who are separate from me—I just did the stills) also used Sony cameras and lenses, they used the FS7. The a7rII I used was rented because it wasn’t even available yet for purchase, so I literally used it on a job and without testing it first, and it performed nearly flawlessly. Now it’s a totally proven camera.

Jon Devo smashed a $13,000 Sony 500m lens on the floor! His comment on Instagram is:

£12.5K worth of ouch. Not taking care when mounting large telephoto lenses can be a costly mistake. 🙈

I guess (and I hope) this lens was covered by his insurance. It’s also hard to replace this lens as you need to order it welll in advance and it will ship to you only within 1-2 months (Check at [shopcountry 58571]).

Thanks to the anonymous source who sent me this!

I just found that new Sony patent describing a sensor with Dual Pixel technology for Phase detection Autofocus. It sounds very similar to the tech used by Canon: cpn.canon-europe.com/content/education/technical/eos_70d_technology.do. The current Canon EOS-M series and a few DSLR have Dual Pixel sensor.

Having such a sensor would improve the autofocus tracking performance. But for now we don’t know if and when Sony will use that patented tech on a Sony camera.
