The 2017 Sony World Photography Awards, the 10th anniversary of the world’s largest photography competition, is now open for entries.

Free to enter and open to all photographers, each year the Sony World Photography Awards attracts both emerging talent and established artists and presents the world’s best photography from the past 12 months to a global audience.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Awards, with exciting new categories in each of the competitions.

“We are extremely proud to reach our 10th anniversary. We are committed to challenging photographers to push their creative boundaries in the years to come.”  – Scott Gray, CEO, World Photography Organisation

Photographers are welcome to enter their work for free into any of the awards’ four competitions: Professional, Open, Youth and Student Focus.

“The award changed my life and beyond the great visibility obtained allowed me to create solid relations of friendships and professional collaborations that I otherwise would not have been able to obtain” Andrea Rossato, 3rd Place, Professional, Candid, 2016 Sony World Photography Awards

The National Awards

An expert panel of judges is also tasked with uncovering and honouring the best single image taken by a photographer from each National Awards country. Entries submitted to the Open competition are automatically entered into the National Awards based on nationality (please check if your individual country is participating).

Ten years ago Sony officially acquired Minolta (Source: DC.watch.). And since than a lot changed. Nowadays the Alpha DSLR system is struggling to survive. Sony focus is on the new E-mount system development. Sony keeps promising they want to keep the A-mount system well alive. It would have been a smart move from Sony to somehow launch some cool A-mount product today to bring back some excitement.

A bit of history:
The first A-mount film camera was the [shoplink 48353 ebay]Minolta Maxxum 7000[/shoplink] (February 1985).
The last digital Minolta A-mount camera was the [shoplink 48348 ebay]Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D[/shoplink] (July 15 2005).
The first Sony A-mount camera was the [shoplink 48349 ebay]Sony A100[/shoplink] (June 5 2006).

CameraStoreTV says it will be nearly be impossible to buy the A6300 due the earthquake damage

Chris and Jordan analyzed the current camera shipment situation after the major Kumamoto Sony sensor production damage. They predict that there will be a major delay in product shipments (including the new A6300). And they expect the situation to get back to normal by this fall only.

Sony has (or had?) a scheduled product announcement event in June. But it’s now unclear if Sony will announce those product at all because of the sensor shortage.
