Wade:Hi here is a video i’ve shot entirely on the Sony RX100IV at 240fps while making my a syphon coffee. https://vimeo.com/136640640

Nyrn:Here’s a 4K time-lapse video I made of Cambridge, UK. I used Sony’s angle shift app for some of the scenes, those are obviously not in 4k.. but the rest is. I hope Sony will soon update it’s time-lapse apps with 4K capability. Olympus already has this. I hope you’ll enjoy the video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydTPhT_Ubus

Sony interview at Optyczne: New A-mount and APS-C E-mount products are being developed

The Polish site Optyczne.pl (google translation here) interviewed Masaaki Oshima and Yann Salmon-Legagneur from Sony.

Here are a couple of interesting info:

1) Astro-tracer function (known from the Pentax K-3 II):
Sony says they are currently investigating how to apply it in future products.

2) Touchscreen:
Once Sony has reached a high level of quality of the touchscreen technology they will implement it on high end cameras too (The A5100 is already touchscreen).

3) RX with APS-C sensor:
There is yet no plan to make a RX camera with ASP-C sensor.

4) A6000 successor:
Sony said they are continuing to develop APS-C cameras. They cant of course comment about a possible release date of the A6xxx.

5) A-mount:
Just like APS-C E-mount also A-mount is being developed.

Leica launches the Sony A7 competitor. Claims to have world’s fastest AF!

Bildschirmfoto 2015-10-20 um 20.12.38

The new Leica SL surely is expensive (preorders and specs at BHphoto) but it’s also surprisingly capable! Leica claims that the SL is the world’s fastest autofocusing camera. It records 4K video, plus it has a massive 4.4MP EVF and 11 fps. If it wouldn’t be for the very high price the camera would certainly be a strong Sony competitor!

All news about that camera can be read at Mirrorlessrumors.com now!

There will be soon new product announcements from Sony: early November for the A-mount camera and maybe earlier for the new FE lenses. But before to talk more about the future stuff I have to catch up with tests and reviews done with the newly announced cameras and lenses:

Download now! Sony releases A7rII firmware with 14 Bit uncompressed RAW

A7rII_firmware_14bit

Sony just issued firmware 2.0 for the Sony A7rII. Download links:
Windows: Sony.com, Sony Australia.
Mac: Sony.com, Sony Australia.

Those are the new features:

  • Adds the selectable feature for uncompressed 14-Bit RAW image capture
  • Adds support to output video via HDMI during use of the Remote Camera Control software (still mode only)

UPDATE: There seems to be an issue with the firmware update. If you have APS-C mode on “Auto” than once you install the firmware update you can only shoot pictures at a max resolution of 18 megapixel. You can still change the settings after the firmware update so don’t worry. But just in case you can’t take any 42MP pictures any more know it that the firmware seems to activate it as default! (Thanks Mirrorlessons for the tip).

Thanks Oliver, Mike, Craig for sharing the links!

A7rII store list:
In USA at Amazon, BHphoto, AdoramaSonyStore US, FocusCamera, Uniquephoto.
In Europe at Amazon DE, Amazon UK, Wex UK and ParkCameras.
In Asia at Digitalrev, CameraPro.
