Well, one of the best Sony cameras to date is certainly the Sony RX10. It’s a camera that has no competition and that can do many things right in one simple package. The team from TheCameraStoreTV tried to understand if the RX10 can also replace high end camcorders. Just watch the video to get the answer!

The Chinese site Xitek (google translation here / found via Photorumors) posted the worldwide first test of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens. And they compared the performance with the Sony-Zeiss Planar lens ($1,500 here at Amazon), Nikkor 58mm lens ($1,700) and more important the Zeiss Otus ($4,000 here at BHphoto).

Sony 18 105 Pillow OSS F4 Zoom

Clearly, as this lens is aimed at video shooters, some of the optical issues may not be a concern for people recording moving images with this lens on an NEX camera. In fact, it is very good for this job.
Those shooting stills may be wary of the poor performance towards the edges of the frame at the telephoto end of the zoom, and the wild distortion that is present, as well as the high levels of fringing present. These issues make the lens difficult to recommend to those who may shoot stills with this lens.

Usinglight (Click here) first impression is:

As a photog it was the constant aperture and zoom length which draw me to this lens. From what I have seen until now it could be a good travel lens or even used for portraits.

Kai from Digitalrev tried to answer one simple question. Can the first mirrorless FF (aka Sony A7) match the quality and performance of the Canon 5D Mark III? The question is tricky also because these are inherently different cameras. An A7-A7r for example can use a huge amount of third party lenses you cannot use on a Canon. On the other side the Canon has a more reliable faster autofocus for example.

I think the next generation Sony FF E-mount cameras will close some of the gaps they still have compared to Canon/Nikon DSLR. The Sony A6000 for example proves us that a terrific AF can be done on mirrorless camera. It’s only a matter of a (short) time now until FF E-mount will match or even outperform a classic DSLR camera performance.

Alin Popescu (Click here) posted the first full Sony A6000 review.

I can say with all my heart, this little guy which is a6000, is the most precise and fast focusing mirror-less camera I have ever tested. Even better than many dSLRs that got in my hands.

And the A5000 sensor got tested at DxOmark and it shows only a marginal quality increase over the predecessor:

Although it lacks the on-chip PD-AF pixels required for faster autofocus of the older 16-Mpix sensor in the NEX-5T, it concedes nothing in IQ while the higher pixel count is promising. At around $499 it doesn’t look overpriced.
