New RX1R and RX100MII reviews.

The new Sony RX cameras got tested! Here are two new reviews:

1) The RX1R has been reviewed by Photographyblog:

“The RX1R’s photos are very subtly sharper and more detailed than the RX1’s, and unless you shoot a lot of subjects with very fine details like fabrics or man-made patterns, you’ll be hard-pushed to spot any moire or colour aliasing (we couldn’t find any in our sample shots). Even if you do, there are certain techniques that you can employ both during shooting and in post-production, so if out and out resolution is a key requirement then we’d recommend opting for the RX1R”

2) And the RX100MII got tested by the guys from ePhotozine:

The RX100 II’s image quality is noticeably improved over the already good RX100, with impressive noise performance even at high ISO settings up to and including ISO6400, with the multi-frame noise reduction performing significantly better than the previous model. With additional features and greater versatility the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II could be the last compact camera you’ll ever need, and is therefore Highly Recommended.

DPreview (Click here) added the Sony RX1R Dynamic range and Noise pages. As you can see there is very little difference between the RX1 and RX1R. Anyway, Pixel Peepers may be happy with that 1-2% resolution increase :)

William:I think I sent this message to you the wrong way the first time. So, please forgive the double message. I just finished a short. “L.A. Audition” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-tOHA285Ec. It was shot on a Sony NEX 5R. The opening shot was shot with the Sony SEL1018 lens.

Justin:Hey, loving the site as always! You may remember me from earlier, when I posted a user report on the RX1 (http://thegoldensieve.com/sony-rx1-a-user-report/). I wanted to drop you a line because I just used the RX1 extensively to shoot a wedding and capture all the little detail shots. I have a post online now where you can see some of these images. Enjoy! http://thegoldensieve.com/the-wedding-photographers-sony-rx1/

Troy Gleason:Shot entirely on a Sony A99! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDBADNhzJHA

Romeo:I have a good series of photos that enhances the Sony Nex-7 and manual lenses. The photos are also the right size to appreciate good. The lens Konica M-Hexanon 90mm f/2.8 is cheap but high quality. There is also the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 24mm f/1.8, backlight is fabulous. romeocolombo.com

David:I recently bought DNA Software’s a99 plugin for Lightroom 5. It lets me shoot tethered in Lightroom like the other supported camera’s, and it includes an iPad app that connects Wi-Fi too. I wrote a review on my blog I hope you can share with the other Sony users. http://www.parallax-effect.ca/2013/06/28/tethering-sony-a99-lightroom-5-dna-software/

New RX100MII gets DxOmarked.

DxOmark (Click here) already posted the full test of the new RX100MII. And indeed the camera manages to have score a 20% better high ISO result. And obviously the competition cannot match the RX100/RX100MII quality. DxO writes:

Until such time that rivals adopt the Sony unit, or something similar (like the sensors found in the Nikon 1 cameras), it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to compete on level terms. For the moment at least, the highly pocketable Sony Cyber-shot DSC RX100 and the new Mk II version have no real equal.

The RX100MII has been announced but the “older” RX100 is still a perfect (and cheaper) camera! And if you want to read a brand new on field review click over at RiflessiFotografici (Click here). Italian Photographer Max Angeloni used the camera for his latest work in Egypt.

You can also read two more previews and test about the just announced MII version:

The best lenses for your NEX7 according to DxOmark.

After the A99 DxOmark (Click here) also published the list of best lenses for the Sony NEX-7. The best prime is the 50mm f/1.8 (it beats the Zeiss lenses too!) and the best zoom is the 10-18mm wide angle zoom. It’s interesting to read that conclusion from DxO:

“Designing lenses smaller than their retro-focus equivalents remains a challenging prospect, however, Sony has introduced a couple of ‘pancake’ type primes and compact zooms that perform well. The range also includes several high-performance primes, although image quality assessment based on the 24-Mpix Sony NEX-7 means that sharpness scores aren’t quite as expected. Whether that’s due to the limitations of current lens designs only time will tell.”

I hope more quality lenses will be announced along the next NEX-7 successor coming in late August!

Zeiss 50mm in Stock at Adorama (and first owners feedback). Bower TS also in Stock.

The new Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 SSM lens is right now in Stock and shipping at Adorama (Click here) and on their [shoplink 19371 ebay]eBay store (Click here)[/shoplink]. Another new lens is in Stock, the Bower Tilt Shift lens at BHphoto (Click here).

And here is the first feedback from SAR readers:

Anonymous:There are many samples at the topic here http://sony-club.ru/showthread.php?t=63681&page=43“.

Joel:Received the new Sony Zeiss SAL50F14Z today.  It did not come with the usual premium lens case.  No lens case at all.  That was quite a big disappointment for such a lens with a premium price.  Is this how Sony hopes to shore up their digital imaging business?

Jonathan:Just received my SAL5014Z.  The AF-D focus option is not available when using the new Zeiss 50mm on the a99 body.  I suspect it’s because each lens, in order to work with that feature, requires firmware specific to that lens.  It’s hard to imagine Sony releasing this premium lens without a plan to upgrade the firmware on the a99, to make it fully functional with the new 50mm.  So, let’s keep our eyes out for that new a99 firmware update.
