Two non-Sony lens leaks: Tamron 70-210mm and Samyang 50mm f/1.2

Two lens images got leaked the past 24 hours:

1) Image on top: Tamron 70-210mm f/4.0 for Canon and Nikon. I really don’t think they will make an A-mount version of this. This lens and the 28-75mm f/2.8 FE lens could be announced on February 22.

2) Image below: Samyang 50mm f/1.2. It’s yet unconfirmed if this is the lens we rumored days ago.

New images of the Sony 400mm f/2.8 at the 2018 Olympics

Our reader Hendrik sent us new images of the Sony 400mm f/2.8 OSS FE GM lens. These where taken at the Olympics in Korea.
The Sony lens will be available in September according to BHphoto. We still don’t know when Sony will unveil the final pricing. But this won’t be a cheap lens. The Canon 400mm lens is listed for $9,999 at Amazon US.

(SR5) New “mid level” Sony Alpha camera and a new flash will be announced on February 26!

Finally trusted sources confirmed that on February 26 Sony will announce:

– one new “mid level” Alpha camera
– one new Flash

Trsusted source have yet NOT confirmed if that’s a new A7III or A6700 camera. But I believe that this is the new A7III (70% chance).

(SR3) I give it 50% chance the new A7III has those specs:

24 mpx sensor.
7 fps.
425 contrast points.
167 phase detection.
joystick.
Z batterie.
touch screen.
4k recording 24 .25 and 30 fps.
1080p 24.25.30 and 60.fps.
1899 us dollars.

(SR5) New Laowa 9mm f/2.8 E-mount lens will cost $499

It is now 100% confirmed the new Laowa 9mm f/2.8 E-mount lens will cost $499 and it will be launched in March. The lens is designed for APS-C E-mount cameras (there will be a Fuji X-mount version too).

Fuji announces the first video oriented X-H1 camera

Today Fuji announced the new X-H1 (specs at BH). As usual with Fuji this looks like a well-rounded product which also comes with some special and newly announced Cine lenses. When compared with the A6500 the X-H1 is a more advanced video tool. But I think Sony hasn’t too much to be worried about. The Sony A7sIII is highly likely to be announced in early April and I bet it has 4k60p while the Fuji has 4k30p only.

What Sony should learn from todays’ Fuji announcement is that you really have to think about the full ecosystem: Translated…make proper lenses for the camera you make!

Yesterday I reported that trusted sources told us Sony will have a product announcement for the WPPI show which starts on February 26. We have yet no reliable info about WHAT product they will announce.

All i got so far is the following rumor from a new source. This means you should take this with a grain of salt !!!

The specs sounds reasonable and indeed the latest A7II price drops created plenty of room for the new camera. I think there is a good chance Sony will announce the A7III at Cp+.

Rumored Sony A7III specs:

24 mpx sensor.
7 fps.
425 contrast points.
167 phase detection.
joystick.
Z batterie.
touch screen.
4k recording 24 .25 and 30 fps.
1080p 24.25.30 and 60.fps.
1899 us dollars.

(SR5) Sony product announcement on or around February 26!!!

Reliable sources told us that Sony will have a new product announcement at the WPPI show on or around February 26! The big question is….what can we expect to get?

First one fact: Sony registered the code of one new camera by end 2017. Which means there is a fair chance we might get such a camera soon.

What camera can we hope to get?

  • A7III: I give a 60% chance that this might be the new A7III with 24Mp sensor, 4K30p, same A7rIII and A9 battery, joystick and touchscreen.
  • A6700: I got no rumor about such a camera yet. I would give a 35% chance to see this camera announced at WPPI.
  • A7sIII: I think the A7sIII will be announced at the NAB show in April.

What about lenses?

  • 135mm f/1.8 FE GM: I hope Sony will announce this lens at WPPI
  • 400mm f/2.8 FE GM: I don’t think this lens will be announced at WPPI.
  • 200-600mm FE: Also that lens is unlikely to be announced at WPPI.

Of course there is still plenty of room for unexpected surprises! Any wishful thinking you want to share? :)
