(SR3) More Sony medium format rumors…

[shoplink 25383 ebay][/shoplink]

Rumors about a Sony medium format camera keep surfacing from time to time. The info we got recently was:

– Fixed lens RX camera
– Zeiss prime (35mm FF equivalent)
– 50 megapixel sensors (same used by new Hasselblad/PhaseOne/Pentax medium formats)
– Built-in EVF
– Smaller and cheaper(!) than any other medium format cameras out there. It’s cheaper than the new Pentax 645

And now new rumors via Photorumors shared some more details:

  • 50 megapixel medium format CMOS sensor (probably made by Sony)
  • Two versions will be sold under the Mamiya and Sony brands
  • Only the Sony version will have an EVF
  • The Mamiya model will have an OVF with OLED focus peaking
  • The lenses will also be sold under the Sony/Zeiss and Mamiya brands
  • New magnet-based lens attachment
  • The cameras will have 4 black classic control dials

Those are conflicting rumors (or maybe two different cameras?). My guess is that a fixed lens camera is more likely. Sony is struggling quite a bit to deliver the FE lenses and I cannot imagine them yet make new lenses for a new system too..

(SR2) A7000 to be announced at CES in early January. Has 256 phase detect and 125 contrast detect points?

[shoplink 8454 ebay][/shoplink]

Another anonymous source claims to know more about the A7000. As usual as long as this doesn’t come from trusted sources I would keep that kind of info with a grain of salt. Nevertheless it happened in the past that such kind of anonymous rumors were correct. And I am 100% sure there is a VERY BIG Sony announcement in January. So let’s hear what the source claims to know:

I have a somewhat details about the a7000 coming at CES.
256 phase detect and 125 contrast detect points
Next 6 viewfinder
Tri Nav
Sensor will be engineered for high sensitivity
Touch screen
Zeiss lens 16-70 which you already know is weathersealed, but it will be 20% shorter, and sport a wider body.  Best in class sharpness and micro contrast.
Camera body will be $699 USD, Zeiss lens to retail for $1199

The other specs I got before also said the A7000 has full tethering capability, records 4K and has a 1/8000 shutter. If true (big “IF”) I would surprised to hear that Sony uses the NEX-6 and not the A6000 or another new viewfinder. Also the price would be terrific. Only $50 more expensive than the current A6000 price! It would certainly sell like hotcakes with that price!

Message to the A7000 anonymous sources: Thanks for sharing the info but keep in mind I can only mark your rumor with low SR2-SR3 ranking until it’s not confirmed by trusted sources. It also would be helpful if you would use some kind of nickname so that I can rank your credibility in future. If your rumors turn out to be true I can rank them higher nest time :)

(SR3) Very first A7000 rumors (NEX-7 successor). Has 4K and 1/8000 shutter speed?

[shoplink 8454 ebay][/shoplink]

It’s really time for Sony to update the [shoplink 8454 ebay]great NEX-7 camera[/shoplink]. And this is a brand new rumor I got from an anonymous source. So for now take it with a grain of salt but let us know what you think about:

2015 will see the release of the a7000.  It will include a new version of the 16-50 powerzoom dubbed version II with much improved quality.   The camera itself will feature full tethering capabilities, 4k video (uncompressed output), 1/8000 shutter speed, weather sealing, and maintain its rangefinder style.    Above all this, a new 16-70 zeiss will be released that will be weather sealed as well.  The 16-50 will not be weather sealed.
The sensor will be a new one, but still 24 mpx.

Sounds good to me! Be sure to not miss any upcoming exciting rumors and subscribe us here:

(SR4) Sony working on 8K (A99 alike) cameras to be released in 2016 at best.

Bildschirmfoto 2014-09-28 um 14.26.21

Innovation never stops and 4K is just one step into the future. The camera you see on top is the Arri Alexa 65 which already records 6K. And how is Sony going to answer Arri’s move?
One of our sources told us Sony did show a new 8K camera prototype to the BBC studio. The source present at the event said the camera looked like the current Sony A99 but had a built-in vertical grip. Sony told them they could start to sell that kind of camera as early as 2016.

P.S.: $300 off on the A99 and free vertical grip included too at Amazon, Adorama and BHphoto.

(SR3) Some more detailed A-and E-mount rumor by an anonymous source.

An anonymous sources who claims to be in contact directly with Sony Japan told me the following tidbits about Sony A and E-mount development. As usual with new sources take the info with a grain of salt and as a chance to discuss the content based on that hypothetic scenario:

1) The a-mount will keep going with the existing lenses. Sony will support those lenses.

2) The engineers have 6 prototypes for new (A-mount) cameras.  Two are very different than previous cameras, but are in early stages and would take much longer to develop.  The other four are refreshes of current cameras.  NOTE: he said definitely not all of these will be made.

3) The engineers feel management was disappointed in the A77ii.  They feel it was a mistake to keep the same shape because people didn’t know it was very different.  Almost all components in A77ii were new.  For that reason, they are looking at new designs for anything else they come out with, but new designs take longer to make and more money and durability testing.

4) There are more e-mount lenses coming, and some a-mount lenses will be upgraded.

5) The engineers have not heard of a new 24-105 for a-mount.  Might be for e-mount.  There have not been prototypes of a-mount lenses since CZ50, but lenses are designed elsewhere and there might be more — not sure.

6) Management feels a-mount is well supported the way it is, and that FE lenses and accessories are the priority.  Especially lenses that are not on the a-mount already.

7) IBIS on E-mount is possible but not as good as on A-mount.

Thanks to the anonymous sources! Hope he will become one fo my trusted sources soon :)
