Wild rumors roundup: A7rVI, A7sIV, 500 GM

Share

About those rumors: I have no idea who sent them and 90% of the times they turn out to be wrong. But, it happened in the past that a couple of those were right. So I will post them today, and we all together can eventually keep track of this. If one of the sources turns out to be right than we will know we can trust it a bit more!

Source 1:

We release A7R VI this summer, the aim is to cut the legs out of canon Olympics release.
For now not many technical details can be shared, but I can tell you this, stacked CMOS and much increased video capability.

Source 2:

Sony is planning to release its latest FE 500mm F2.8 GM OSS by May/June 2024, a relatively lightweight, large aperture super telephoto lens that will be in service for the 2024 Olympics. It is slightly heavier than the FE 600mm F4 GM OSS, but less than 8.2 lbs. It also has an exclusively designed 1.6x TC that can be converted to 800mm F4.5.

One more crazy rumor:

Like I told you before I still have no reliable info about a possible A7sIV coming any time soon. But a couple of chinese SAR readers told me that there is a rumor going around their socials about the A7sIV. One of the readers told me this:

HI, Andrea. I read on a Chinese app called “Little Red Book” that A7SIV will be launched at the launch event this month. And I also read a lot of information on Chinese tiktok that you can get A7S4 around June. Although I don’t know if these messages are as trustworthy as the information sources you trust, I decided to share them anyway.

The A7sIII is the oldest camera in the lineup. It has been announced on July 28, 2020 and usually Sony’s release cycle is 4 years. Let’s hope reliable rumors will come in soon…but for now I find it hard to believe the A7sIV is coming this month already.

The brand new Nextorage Type A cards are now in Stock at Amazon US (Click here). There are two kind of cards, the VPG200 and VGP400 cards:

NX-A1PRO VPG400 (Read 950MB/s Write 950MB/s, VPG400 and minimum sustained write/read speed of 850 MB/s)

NX-A1SE VPG200 (Read 950MB/s Write 950MB/s, VPG200 minimum sustained write speed of 200 MB/s)

NX-A1PRO  is “Best in class”:

NX-A1PRO Series achieved a maximum read/write speed of 950 MB/s and a minimum sustained write speed of 850 MB/s, increases the number of continuous shots during high-speed continuous shooting and further reduces the buffer memory release time.  The high-speed data transfer maximizes camera performance and minimizes buffer release time, efficiently supporting users capturing moments through photography.
The NX-A1PRO Series CFexpress Type A card is equipped with Nextorage’s Dynamic Auto Power Save, a power saving system that reduces 88% power consumption in video recording compared to non-equipped pSLC CFexpress cards ― contributes not only to saving the camera’s battery life, but to maintaining sustained write speed by suppressing thermal throttling.

Exterior durability is tested in an environment compliant with CompactFlash Association regulations:

  • Operating Temperature Resistance: 14 ℉ to 158 ℉
  • Shock Resistance
  • X-ray Resistance
  • UV Resistance
  • Magnetic Resistance
  • Anti-Static
