While Sony is asleep at the wheel Ricoh will launch TWO new GR compact cameras in 2025

One of my TRUSTED sources told me something about Ricoh:

  • new Ricoh GRIV camera coming in Q1 2025
  • new Ricoh GRIV monochrome coming later in 2025

Now, I know this is a Sony website, but I find it interesting that Ricoh is having a huge success in this fixed lens camera market while Sony is completely asleep on the wheel. Sony had quite a successful RX camera range…let’s hope there is something coming down the road in 2025…

Now 12 months without a new Sony FF camera announcement

We are now in November and this means that 12 months passed without a Sony Full Frame E-mount camera announcement. The last FF camera Sony announced was the Sony A9III back in November 2023.

The past 7 years Sony always did announce at least 1 new FF E-mount camera. 2016 was the exception although they did announce a new A-mount FF camera (the Sony A99II).

2023: A9III, A7cR, A7cII, ZV-E1
2022: A7rV
2021: A7IV, FX3, A1
2020: A7c, A7sIII
2019: A9II, A7rIV
2018: A7III
2017: A7rIII, A9

I was afraid that this would be the first year in a long time that Sony wouldn’t announce a new FF camera. But now I know for sure we are getting the Sony A1 successor on November 19 :)

Crazy! BHphoto is already promoting the Sony A1II preorder page!

I have never seen this before: The Sony A1II reorder page is already being promoted by BHphoto (Click here). They writes:

Stay tuned! Sony is announcing their newest flagship mirrorless camera, the a1 II, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 9AM EST.

And this is the live stream video:

On that day also the 28-70mm f/2.0 GM will be announced and I leaked both specs and images in the past weeks:

Sony A1II rumored specs:

  • Sony A9III body
  • Same 50MP A1 sensor
  • Pre-Capture
  • 3.2 inch vari angle screen
  • 8 stops stabilization (Sony A1 has 5.5 stops)
  • 30fps
  • 8k30p
  • AI chip which allows to have all the A9III goodies like accurate subject recognition, improved AF and so forth
  • New 4.0 CFexpress Type A card for faster buffering (this is not yet 100% confirmed)
  • Price 7499 Euro (not sure about price in dollar yet)

Sony 28-70mm f/2.0 GM lens specs:

  • 86mm filter size
  • zoom extends around 1cm
