Rhino Cam helps you to create 140+ megapixel photos with your NEX camera.

Share

Rhino Cam (Click here) created a sort of medium format adapter that uses a Sony NEX camera to make a scan of the image created through a classic medium format camera. In short, you put the adapter between the NEX camera and the [shoplink 17280 ebay]Pentax 645[/shoplink] or [shoplink 17281 ebay]Mamiya 645[/shoplink] or [shoplink 17282 ebay]Hasselblad V[/shoplink] medium format lens. The NEX camera moves to take multiple shots from the medium format area (62,4 x 46,8mm). Than you just have to stick the images together to have your 140+ megapixel photo. It’s a sort of “panoramic mode” for medium format cameras :)

Yep, it’s a bit like having a digital back but of course this solution works on still objects only! It’s priced at $499 and you can order it here: Fotodioxpro.com.

And here are the medium format lenses you can use with it:
Pentax 645 lenses on [shoplink 17280 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
Mamiya 645 lenses on [shoplink 17281 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
Hasselblad V lenses on [shoplink 17282 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

New images of the new Zeiss E-mount lenses!

Share

They are not even for sale and the new Zeiss E-mount prime lenses won the IFA design award! Zeiss (Click here) celebrated this by posting new pics of the lenses. As you know they come in Sony E and Fuji X mount. As you know they will be released soon. We will have a 12mm f/2.8, 32mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/2.8 macro. The first two may be my favorite two! Price is rumored to be in between $1,000 and $1,400. Basically in the price range of the [shoplink 8450]24mm f/1.8 E-mount Zeiss[/shoplink]. That lens had been low in Stock for over one year because of the unexpected high orders. And it never got any price drop because of that (you only find some kind of superkits offers like [shoplink 17275 ebay]that one on eBay US[/shoplink]).

FF NEX discussion reloaded. The need for a “cheap” FF NEX!

Share

Yesterdays post about the future FF-NEX set a new record with 475 comments (Click here to read them all). I am sure Sony managers read them all and it’s also clear that the high price of the FF-NEX may be a hurdle for the final success of the system. From the over 6.000 voters only 13% said they would buy the NEX-FF. And only 13% said they may or may not buy it.

So let’s imagine another solution. A cheap very basic and simple FF-NEX, with no viewfinder, no fancy tech but with a top sensor and decent AF speed. If Sony would manage it to keep costs low and sell the camera for $2500 (body only)….

This is my last poll about the NEX-FF. After that I will ask for feedback from my sources to hear what they think. Let’s go back and post some new NEX-7n rumors soon :)

– Three new FF Zeiss lenses coming in June 2014 along the first FF NEX

Specs of the Zeiss lenses are unknown but Zeiss has a great history of FF lenses made for the “Full Frame” ZM analog camera:

Nikon Coolpix A vs the future Sony RX10.

Share

The Sony RX series became quite popular thanks to the superbly made RX100 and RX1. And of course we can expect Sony to release an RX10 APS-C sensor camera this year. But while the RX100 and the RX1 have no competition to fear the RX10 will play in a busy and growing segment. Today Nikon announced the “Nikon Coolpix A“. An APS-C compact camera with fixed 28mmf /2.8 lens. I am not impressed by the use of a slow lens but more about the tiny size of the camera. it’s much smaller than the Fuji X100s and Pentax MX-1.

There are so many ways Sony could do the RX10. I just hope they will use a faster lens than the Nikon, a hybrid viewfinder like the Fuji and the price of the Pentax…yeah I know I am dreaming. I am pretty sure there will no built-in viewfinder!

(SR5) NEX-9 will be more expensive than the RX1. What is your opinion?

Share

I am talking a lot with my trusted sources about the future Full Frame NEX camera. The camera could be named NEX-9 and the sensor is likely going to be a new Full Frame 24 MP sensor. And it will be mroe expensve than the current RX1! There are mainly two challenges Sony is facing during the development:

1) The technical  challenge:
Sony aims to create a High End Professional system that can match and if possible surpass the performance of PRO DSLR.
2) Marketing – price challenge:
The NEX-9 body only will be more expensive than the RX1. Price range should be in between $3,000 and $4,000. And lenses will be also very expensive!

Sony managers think that the point 1) has been solved with the work done by the engineer’s. What Sony managers are discussing now if there is a large enough market for the NEX-9. They see that Canon (6D) and Nikon (D600) released FF DSLR cameras for less than $2,000 and a NEX-9 may will have a hard time to justify their price compared to those. I have been expressly asked by my sources to ask you SonyAlphaRumors readers to share your opinions. And while I am absolutely not an expert I will do the first step by sharing mine:

1) First of all, Sony should not compare Apple and Oranges. A DSLR system is inherently different than a Mirrorless system. So stop comparing it with DSLR.

2) Market isn’t rational. Most of you know Henry Ford’s famous sentence: “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses“. So please don’t waste your time in analysis of the current market, because there isn’t a market to analyze yet :)

3) To take good pictures you just need a $100 compact camera. So if you ask me…”I don’t need the NEX-FF, nevertheless I want it and I will buy it“!I will buy it if it catch my emotions, if it’s kept simple and clean and if I can have a more “pure” photographic experience. Do we need a nice looking car? Nope, Do we need a nice looking Jacket no. But we are emotional animals not rational robots :)

4) In my eyes the A-mount FF system didn’t archive to become a serious challenger in the pro market. The E-mount Full Frame may be the first serious chance they have to get into the market. Make it backwards compatible with the current E-mount lenses (crop mode), make electronic adapters for Canon and Nikon lenses, create a system that is open and unique.

I could write for hours, but It’s time to read your opinion and probably you have better arguments than me!

But first of all a voting. Imagine Sony puts the right tech and the right features on the NEX-9. Imagine that there will be some nice lenses (including Zeiss) priced between $1,500 and $2,000…

The best new camera in 2019 is the...
