Topaz Video AI v3.1 is here (and $50 discount on the Image AI and Video AI bundle)

Share

Both the Video AI and Imagq Quality AI app got a $50 discount (Click here). The Video AI tool got a new 3.1 update with the following new features:

Get sharper videos with the new Themis AI model

Reduce motion blur caused by panning, rotation, or zoom with the new Themis AI model:

Topaz Video AI v3.1 – Motion Deblur Example

Because it can use information from multiple frames, the new Themis AI model performs much better than its equivalent in our image apps. It also pairs well with the Stabilization model to reduce camera shake and jerkiness:

TVAI Themis and Stabilization Example

Themis helps you increase the perceived sharpness and detail of your videos by removing blur instead of just increasing edge contrast. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Faster in-app playback

The in-app video player will now play videos at up to 3x faster, as we’ve improved the efficiency of frame rendering. While playback may still not be real-time for large videos, it has significantly improved over v3.0.x and will improve more in the future.

Other quality of life improvements

The 6 releases over the past month have also improved the general quality of life of the app:

  • Improved JPEG output quality
  • Prevent OS from sleeping when app is processing
  • Fix many issues related with image sequences imports
  • More reliable login method
  • Improve stability and fix various crashes

Sony will soon announce the new 50mm f/1.4 GM lens!

Share

Image on top shows the current Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM lens

I had one new source that told me days ago that Sony would announce a new 50mm f/1.4 GM. I didn’t even bother to post it on SAR thinking that it was unlikely to be correct. Well, a second trusted source spotted by Digicameinfo confirmed now that this lens will be announced soon!

The code is “SEL50F14GM” and it will be basically a more compact and affordable version of the currently available Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM lens. My new source also told me the lens has “size similar to 35 1.4

And like I told you yesterday Sigma will also announce a new 50mm f/1.4 FE lens soon. So I guess we are in no shortage of 50mm lens options :)

Sony 20-70mm review by Lenstip, Amateur Photographer, ThePhoBlographer: “supreme quality”

Share

Preorders:
Sony 20-70mm at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama, FocusCamera, FotoKoch, Fotoerhardt, Calumet, WexUK.

Review by Lenstip:

I am very pleased by the fact that the progress of photographic optics hasn’t stopped. From time to time you see such unique lenses being launched as the Sony FE 20-70 mm f/4 G, tested here. My joy is not spoiled by the fact that they are very hard to assess because if you deal with a unique instrument you have no reference point and almost no rivals to compare it with.
Of course there is always something to say because you can compare the tested lens to models which are easier to construct, like 24-70 or 24-105 mm devices. The most important thing is that the Sony prevails in all these duels, proving its supreme quality.

Review by Amateur Photographer:

Leaving aside, for the moment, the price, it’s clear that the Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G is a fine optic that delivers sharp, detailed images even when paired up with Sony’s high-resolution full-frame bodies. It’s a lens I really enjoyed using, with its extended wideangle range and impressive close-up capability providing useful extra creative scope compared to a conventional 24-70mm zoom. That 20mm wide end might sound limiting compared to a 16-35mm ultra-wide, but most of the time, it’s plenty wide enough for me. I could certainly see this lens becoming a firm favourite of landscape shooters who’d prefer to carry minimal kit.

Review by ThePhoBlographer:

The Sony FE 20-70mm f4 G lens is a lightweight, compact, wide-angle zoom lens. The extended focal length equips creatives with extra versatility. It’s an excellent choice for cityscapes, landscapes, travel, portraits, photojournalism, and street photography. And content creators will appreciate the extra space for the notorious selfie angle.
The autofocus is fast and accurate, with very few misses. Manual focus is more efficient when capturing small details with ample background separation.
Images are sharp with lifelike hues, plenty of bokeh, and lovely contrast. They require minimal editing. Barrel distortion is most apparent at 20mm and can be corrected in post-production. Or embrace it and have some fun.

Review by FotoKoch:
