Bhphoto and Adorama will close from April 18th to April 26th (Nex and A55 deals)
A quick reminder for our readers from US. The two biggest photo online stores will be closed in observance of Passover from Monday, April 18th, through Tuesday April 26th. As I mentioned yesterday I do expect shortages and maybe price increments on some Sony products because of the recent Tsunami-Nuclear disaster.
If you do plan to buy a camera or lens than it might be the right time to start shopping! Here are quick links to tour affiliate stores: Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
And here is a quick deal reminder:
1) When you buy a NEX-5 or NEX-3 you get an $150 instant rebate when you buy it with both the 16mm and the 18-55mmm lenses. Check at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).
2) You save $230 on the new Sony A55 and 18-250mm Lens Bundle at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).
3) You can get discounted used camera kits at BHphoto (Click here).
I will check tomorrow if there are deals in Europe. It take smuch more time to check dozens of online stores for every european country

Fill in the correct name and you can even be alerted when something below a set price comes in.
I hope that helps.
Keep up the news.

Thanks for the reminder, but as a European user, your last sentence made me wonder: is there any B&H megastore anywhere in Europe? It seems that everyone is buying locally here in Europe, and I find it odd that we don´t have any kind of megastore with good prices, and good reputation. Other than the local Amazons, what would be the most similar thing to B&H?
Thanks mate,
A European Noob

2 years ago |Hi! The biggest online stores are Pixmania Redcoon and Amazon. But I would like to see a store like BH in Europe.

2 years ago |Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, both Pixmania and Redcoon do not have that great of a reputation, AFAIK. (Good prices, yes, but rumor has it they leave a lot to be desired for returns/warranty issues. I actually read of people who are willing to spend a bit more so they don´t have to buy from there, which I guess is quite meaningful…)
Who knows, perhaps Hong-Kong, or any other Asian country, is the way to go, since US prices aren´t usually good enough when you take into account all the expenses. I´ve heard there´s a couple of big megastores in Japan too, I don´t know their names, though.
If anyone´s is in the know, I´d like to see a little “Recommended stores” list. Perhaps a good idea for a dedicated post, Mr. Admin?

2 years ago |Hi Adriano, I don’t need a Mega-Store… There are lots of small /medium size stores around, mostly in Germany with decent prices and excellent reputation. Check the out with the usual search engines like geizhals, idealo, ciao, twenga, etc.
Hongkong prices look seducing but: You have to add shipping. On top of the price of the goods and shipping fee comes customes (~20%) and on top of this your local VAT (another 20%). Your carrier will ask also a fee for the hassle with the authorities (you can estimate 50-150 EUR)… Then you are already very close to the prices you pay here from the above mentioned shops — with a lot of open questions like: What if you don’t like the product and want to return it? What about warrenty? What about after-sales promotions? etc, etc, etc.
Briefly: Not recommended.

2 years ago |Hey, thanks for the tips. I´m aware of the additional expenses, but still, I´ve done my maths, and if you´re spending a significant amount of money in the US, you’re gonna save a few hundreds, too. I guess the savings may be higher buying in Asia.
German stores, AFAIK, have pretty much the same “expensive” prices we have all over Europe, and unlike the MegaStores I mentioned, don´t have the option to make my purchases in plain English, so it´s buying in Germany where I see no advantage whatsoever over buying locally. Could you recommend specific German stores with better-than-average prices, where I can buy in English?
