Everybody loves the RX100 (Photoclubalpha, Photographyblog, Cnet, Outbackphoto, Steve Huff…)
The video on top has been made by Mike Kobal. Done with the RX100…Great!
Everybody is reviewing the RX100 and everybody likes it a lot! David Kilpatrick even says it can match a Full frame….enjoy the reading
Photoclubalpha: “At the best – ISO 80 to 125, stopped down just one full step from full aperture – the RX100 can match or better the typical output of a 21 megapixel full frame DSLR with 24-105mm lens.”
Photographyblog: “The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 is the first truly pocketable camera to offer a DSLR experience, and in that regard it could almost be seen as something of a bargain – it’s certainly deserving of our highest Essential! accolade.”
Steve Huff: “In my hand the camera feels small but solid with a nice build. If it did have an EVF it would be flat-out my dream pocket cam.”
Cnet Asia: “The svelte shooter offers reliable programmed modes, customizable buttons, fast autofocus performance and good image quality packed in a sleek chassis which may appeal to enthusiasts and beginners alike. This is why we chose to award the RX100 our CNET Asia Editor’s Choice.”
Outbackphoto tested the RX100 RAW and Lens distortion.
The Sony RX100 is the ONE camera ruling the overall ranking at Amazon (Click here to see). I am now accepting bets. How long will it rule that ranking? Few days…weeks or even months? In Europe the RX100 is still not in Stock in most stores. But I found a good price (490 Euro) via Wowcamera eBay (three in Stock now).
Here are the full search links to the RX100: Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.

10 months ago |I got mine this morning. In my pocket right now.
I cannot use creative profiles when shooting RAW+JPEG (no problem with the NEX-7!).
Initial impressions are: would have preferred magnesium over aluminum build -the RX100 feels less durable than the cheaper HX cameras, the pretty Zeiss label on the front is only a paper sticker
Focus is super quick as is shutter response (click-click-click) and picture quality seems very good.

10 months ago |Snap- me too! An RX100 is a beautiful thing to actually see and use. Picked up today in Adelaide South Australia from Photoco Camera House in the central market – a GREAT shop!

10 months ago |I have had mine for two days now. It simply rocks, my other camera is the a77 with grip alot of times I would just leave that home and shoot with the iPhone 4s and be disapointed. Now with the RX100 on me at all times I can capture good photographs wherever.

10 months ago |Saw it yesterday at Sony Retail Store in Berlin. Gorgeous tiny camera, with awesome screen. Didn’t have though enough time to play with it (especially manual focus feature). Price needs to drop however, and this soon.

10 months ago |Have mine now for one week — and I’m glad for each and every cent I’ve spend for it!!!
Now, Sony, what about my a950 with OVF, 36 MP sensor and the very same build quality?
Huge Kisses, Sony!

10 months ago |Well…. If you remember this interview http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/toru-katsumoto-sony-interviewed/ then the part with the “Expert Compact” has become reality with the RX100.
Gives me some confidence in the part: “The decision has not yet been made, especially for devices with 24×36 mm sensor. I think, one of the electronic viewfinders can even compete with the optical viewfinders of those models. But not in the near future, regarding the fact that the resolution of a 24×36 mm optical viewfinder is very high.”
Come on, Sony, you don’t want me to look through your beautiful CZ lenses via a TV set….

10 months ago |Showcasing the cam’s 60fps in semi slow motion, and how such a small cam can give others, for this particular controlled light studio set up, a run for their money.
That…and show some ass. Nice ass.

Vertical lines are vertical–no barrel–no pincushion–a great accomplishment. Bright light photos are every bit as good as NEX 7 w/ kit lens. Lo-light photos have a small but tolerable bit of noise but. Too bad about the Blue Zeiss sticker not a real emblem…, but…, all-in-all, quibble about the price if you want to but show me as good an IQ at a better price. You won’t be able to.
I agree with Steve Huff that if you added the OLED EVF, even ‘though it would make the camera a little bit larger and a little bit heavier, it would be worth it…, plus an additional hundred bucks.
Great Job SONY…, I’m hoping for a third consecutive “camera of the year.”
Nothing else is close.
Now where’s that 16-50 G Series E Mount Pancake???

10 months ago |A true pocket camera that takes what looks like great images. I may have to pick one up. Along with the new FF and that 16-50 G E mount sounds awesome. I am going to need a second job to pay for all this.

10 months ago |I’m jealous of all you folks playing with your RX100 now. I want to get one for my wife, but she says she should sell her a500 in order to buy it. What do you think? She’s always borrowing my NEX-5N.
doug
10 months ago |I vote for buying it for the wife. She’ll be thrilled.

10 months ago |I also vote for buying for your wife. At least then you get to play with it. While she uses your 5N. Admit it, you want that. LOL.

10 months ago |Since when did pricing not become a factor in a purchasing decision?
Such reviews are often gushing tributes to manufacturers of the consumer product reviewed. Bated breath and overuse of adjectives such as ‘creamy’ characterize them, but avoidance of the question of why an item should be priced the way it is, why you should replace an item you bought six months ago for a pretty penny as a result, why you should buy buy buy year after year for whatever the reviewers are genuflecting to this month, are noticeably absent.
And by their absence, these websites, which also seek to generate traffic and hence make money from advertisers and sell-through’s, appear to show a tendency to become merely touts and pimps, rather than genuine information disseminators. Which means a wise consumer should take them with a grain of salt. A pound of salt. A ton of salt.
