Kirk Tuck rumor is wrong. No 36Mpx camera coming.

After reading the Kirk Tuck 36 Megapixel SLT camera rumor a couple of sources contacted to tell me the rumor is wrong. I Thank you for the response!
One short question, one of the sources mentioned a NEX-5F release…a question when exactly?

Any word on the legendary CZ 50mm 1.2?

11 months ago |There is a Sony announcement Thursday, it is on the Sony Pro Video page. Probably a new camcorder of some sort, but a NEX lens like the 55-300mm might make it in a camcorder announcement.

Can’t afford to buy for a while, but the earlier they relese the camera, the more time there is for the street price to drop before I can
Just as a point – I think it will be a big mistake leaving too long between the two FF cameras, yet releasing them close together if you see what I mean….
As long as they are not duds I am intending to buy one of these cameras. Which one? I don’t know…. I’ll have to ait to see which suits my needs best which will probably mean waiting til they are both out so I can compere to see which suits my needs best….
Potentially annoying for me & potentially delayed sale for Sony….

SONY clearly is ignoring US their long time customers and just forcing anyone with our needs to other platforms
SONY has 36mp full sensors, but they sold it to Nikon, instead of support US their Sony Pro camera users.
SONY speaks volumes when they ignore our needs.

11 months ago |D800 looks like a ‘paper ship’ item. All of the reviews on Amazon are comments from spec-sheets. Amazon itself advises that ordered items won’t ship for 1-2 months.
There are a few of them out there, but you wouldn’t be able to walk down to your camera store and pick up a couple, right now

11 months ago |I’m quite happy about this. If it was true, it would be a kneejerk reaction to d800 success and thus a rushed out camera. I can’t wait for the 24mp camera to be announced in a month or so and the 36mp version will hopefully be no later than early 2013. I wonder if the specs i.e 12fps are actually for the 24mp and there was simply confusion re the camera that is being released first.

11 months ago |The remaining question is:
What is the nex’ed rumor?
brizmako
11 months ago |This is great news. A 24MP FF will be perfect and I’m sure it will be well designed and implemented. I’m sure Sony will release the 36MP FF eventually but, rather than view their hesitance as a slap in the face, I think you should take it as Sony taking the time to fully develop the whole system rather than just bolt a big-ass sensor into a body not designed specifically for it. Who gives a frack what Nikon is doing with the Sony sensor? I want a reliable workhorse, not a temperamental thoroughbred. 24MP is fine for me, I’ll worry about the 36MP if and when it happens.

11 months ago |Sony most likely has an agreement with Nikon restricting Sony from using the 36mp sensor for ‘X’ amount of time in any of their own models. Such agreements are standard practice in such industries. I.e. – Yeah, we’ll pay you X-amount of dollars for umpteen-million sensors, but you can’t market a model with that sensor, or one of higher resolution, for X amount of time. The two companies would have a sales contract that is pages upon pages long, crafted by teams of lawyers, that laid out all manner of restrictions and privileges for both companies. It’s not likely that we’ll see a Sony 36mp body any time soon. I would guess that such a restriction on Sony would likely last at least 1 year from the release date of the first Nikon body that uses the Sony 36mp sensor, and possibly even as much as three years. Depending on the sweetness of the deal for Sony, it could even conceivably be longer – maybe up to five years. But, given the state of technological progress in the industry, I don’t think that would be very likely at all.
Kevin Alpha
11 months ago |Well, if such contract does exist, I would like to jump to Nikon then, because I wont get any of new sensor technology if I stay with Sony.
passer-by
11 months ago |We don’t know the rest of the agreement. Maybe Nikon AF tech for Sony?

11 months ago |Oh well ….this is a ‘rumor’ forum.
I still wish Sony would get real and just drop the new sensor into updated A900 OVF form-factor and call it done.
CTPhotographX.com
11 months ago |That would be a hit… as the last OVF. I wish they’d leave it as a stills camera without video and make it a Titanium Special Edition.
Sky_walker
11 months ago |+1. Even if it’d be just a “collectors-edition” camera – it’d surely be an awesome thing.

11 months ago |As much as I want to get excited for a new FF camera, a 24mp SLT is no upgrade from my A900.
Give me 36mp FF or the square sensor camera that was rumored on here awhile back.
Oh yes and an 11-18mm e-mount lens….
Poke
11 months ago |Lonnie,
I can understand some of your remarks and you are obviously looking for greater resolution. The 900 is a great camera. I have the 850 and love it, but I think this 24 SLT will be an upgrade. For one, it will be a newer and expected to be a better sensor. The 900′s focus system is good but far from great. I expect a significant improvement in both speed and accuracy in all light conditions. There will be the addition of video. I also expect the new camera to blow the 900 out of the water on high ISO performance. However, this is of course just expectations since we have yet to see this camera and anything shot with said camera.
Lonnie Utah
11 months ago |Let’s see, as landscape photographer, 90%+ of the time, I shoot on a tripod so I could careless about high iso. The same can be said for focus speed and accuracy as most of the time I’m shooting from f/11-f/22. When focusing using the hyperfocal distance which makes 95% of the frame is in focus anyway, who cares about slight improvements in focus accuracy? If I need video, I have my NEX. So for ME, the A99 will not be any sort of upgrade over what I am currently able to do with the A900 and my NEX. I’ll be saving my money on this go round.
poke
11 months ago |Well I can definitely see why you want the 36. You must be chomping at the bit for the 800E or similar offering from Sony. I spend most of my time shooting dance competitions in variable and not so great lighting, concerts, gymnasium sports and high school football at night (lighting stinks). So the 24SLT may prove to be an upgrade over my 850. The video is why I initially bought the 5n but gets to be a pain hauling around 2 cameras many times. These two cameras seem to satisfy very different photographers. That is why I think they could offer both cameras at the same time if they were ready to present both. The 24 should serve me better and obviously the 36 for your needs. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the 36. I know how difficult it is too wait when you are ready for the next best thing.
Joel

11 months ago |Be advised that this site is called, The Sony Alpha Rumors. They have no better or worse sources than anyone else. I stand by the information I received. If I’m wrong we’ll all know soon but if Sony Rumors is so sure then to my mind they have facts in hand, not just rumors. So let em roll it all out and we’ll see who’s correct in the end.
Now I have to go back to my blog and write the obligatory: “Sony Alpha Rumors blows it again!” post just to balance out the score.

11 months ago |LOL, Kirk. And Andrea, you did everything correctly to classify the “believability” of the rumor, both by a “SR2″ demarcation and explanation that it did not corroborate with your other sources. Anyone who got their hopes up did so by their own doing.
AlphaK9
11 months ago |Admin, your right, Kirk is not to blame – Sony is! Sony lures people in with ther great point and shoot and entry level cameras with the Carl Ziess optics and as people start to develop as photographers and want professional grade cameras they say “Make.believe” on the products and support. I will give Sony until September when I go the “Fall Photography at the Summit” which is a great event sponsored by Nikon. I hate to even go with three year old technology, but I will but it will be the last time. I will start my transition to Nikon. Look at these numbers. eBay Nikon 600mm VR f4 $8600.00, Nikon D4 $6000.00 Total $14600.00. Sony 500mm f4 $13000.00.

AlphaK9
11 months ago |Art, let me explain my comment so there is no misinterpreting. I am not saying Kirk got lured in by Sony. Kirk is a great photographer and he has earned his reputation through hard work. I am describing my story not his. I simply said Kirk is not to blame. There are a lot of disappointed people because of Sony providing great sensors for other manufactures but has not provided a
Great professional ff body for us for over three years. There is no BS. If you believe I am wrong give me specifics so I can address them.

11 months ago |Oh stop that, it’s a dumbed down camera for point-and-shoot upgraders. Not a companion for advanced amateur or pro-shooters. I’m sure the next Canon mirrorless release will be thoroughly astounding and perfectly suited to the upper end of the market, but the little EOS-M is just Canon dipping their toes in the water to see if the pool is warm enough to jump in. Here’s your chance to make 4k tvs attractive Mr. Sony – bring decent 4k cams to market at the same time so we can astonish ourselves rather than wait for content to trickly into production.
