Sigma Press Release: no 35mm f/1.4 shipment date yet.

Sigma Japan just issued a new press release where they do NOT unveil the shipment date for the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 A-mount lens. The release date is “undecided“. Meantime TheDigitalPicture tested the same lens (with Canon mount) and writes that: “the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens is my new favorite Sigma lens.”
The A-mount lens is availble for preorder at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (click here). To get notified when this lens is on eBay login and save this search at Slidoo.

6 months ago |BTW will there be also an E-Mount version of that Sigma 50mm 1:2.8 Macro on their DP3 Merril like these 19mm and 30mm from their DP1 & DP2?
Sky_walker
6 months ago |Nope. And Sigma doesn’t have any plans for extensive invasion on mirrorless market, mostly because, as they told, it’s in majority a market of kit lenses, not 3rd party.

6 months ago |Having Sigma pump out fast primes for NEX & m43 would be the best thing ever. Moreso for NEX, and Olympus & Panasonic already have quite a few. PS: Sony: Stop not making fast, affordable primes for NEX. Thank you.
Let’s get Tamron in this boat, too!

6 months ago |Undecided? Wonder why…
Mike
6 months ago |Because it is a FF lens and the A99 isn’t
particularly selling well. Who should buy that lens?
Sky_walker
6 months ago |You do realize that this lens works on APS-C too giving ~50mm equivalent? Something that’s in demand? That’s probably why Sony released not just one, but two ~30mm lenses from Easy Choice series.

6 months ago |in majority a market of kit lenses… retards. no wonder, when nobody manufactures nothing proper for the ML market. btw… somehow they forgot that particularly THEIR SIGMA 30 & 19/2.8 score top popularity in that “market of kit lenses”

6 months ago |Maybe its just a production ability and market thing. It took them some time to make Nikon’s mount available long after Canon’s mount was already out there. But it does not seem that even these two mounts can stay in stock. I guess Sony and Pentax is in the bottom of the pecking order. I wish zeiss would fill this void and give a a 35 and a 120-300. However, the price would probably be doubled.

Pretty sure it’s just business.
It’s not big demand expected from A-mount users. Especially when sony plans to go to mirrorless cameras.
It’s a professional level lens. Sony has really tiny share in professional market and doesn’t push to increase it.

6 months ago |Nikon went from advertising it has sold more than 65 million lenses last year to claiming 75 million sold a few months ago. Wow that’s 10 Million lenses sold in less than two years and Canon must have done even better.
I wonder how many full-frame A-Mount lenses have been sold by Sony, Sigma and Tammron?
Look, the last full-frame lens besides the remake of the 300/f2.8 and the big telephoto released last year was the 24/f2 Zeiss announced back in 2010 and a 85mm kit lens just before that.
As time goes by, and Sony continues to delay, and or do little to improve full-frame optics selection in comparison to the other two I see the A-mount full-frame just slowly fading away.
Rumor is that Sony is about to make new A-Mount releases real soon, we shall see, as it may be too little and too late.
If Sony thinks that third-part lens makers will save Sony for marketing its own products it needs to rethink that.

6 months ago |They are probably trying to get the firmware for A99 into the lens before release. The last I checked, Sigma did not have firmware for 70-200 OS. That was about two weeks ago.
Sony killed the 9
6 months ago |Sigma promised twice to release 120-300/2.8 for Alpha… Both times they lied. No new Sig 120-300/2.8 for Alpha.
Won’t buy anything Sigma unless the entire line is available. I’m not having ONE LENS with extra yellow color response than all my others. That’s why we go ALL Minolta, or ALL ZA.
This new Sigma 665G heavyweight may be sharp, but Mino/Sony is 1/3rd lighter 470G with much smoother OOFA. The Mino 35/2 as sharp as the ZE version and only 240G super lightweight… 70% lighter to carry around.
And really… This is an “Art” series lens? Does it attach to the “Contemporary” series lens if I want to shoot Contemporary Art? Does my camera explode if I shoot Art with the Sports lens? Maybe that’s why they didn’t release the 120-300/2.8 for Alpha… They’re looking out for me… Thanks Sigma.

6 months ago |meh’ having focus peaking, I’d rather just get the Samyang/Rokinon 35mm f1.4 and call it a day. It’s one of the highest rated lenses @DxO

6 months ago |What about Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 for Sony? Its been available for Canikon for months and the initial release mentioned plans for Sony too.
Steve
6 months ago |Sigma, like any company (Sony included) will put their manufacturing resource where the money is and right now that isn’t the A-Mount. Maybe, after the demand settles down for the Canon and Nikon mounts of this lens then if Sigma thinks it’s worth the investment it then may make a Sony version of this and other lenses.
I use Really Right Stuff (RSS) ballheads and mounts that require a custom “L” plate on my a850’s that so far isn’t yet being offered for the a99 but is offered for all of the Nikon and Canon full-frames and for now, that is a showstopper. and for RSS and Sigma its allabout sales.
Sony makes fine cameras and can make fine lenses when it cares to do so, but A-Mount sales don’t rise to the level needed for most third-party manufactures.
Sky_walker
6 months ago |You are mistaken. Sigma on A-mount is quite popular, especially for focal lenses where Sony hardly have anything to offer. Like… 35mm for example!
It’s by far more popular then on E-mount.
The real reason behind it is overwhelming popularity of F and EOS mount versions – they can’t produce enough of these lenses. So they delay what haven’t been released yet.
Godsakes
6 months ago |One of the problems with sigma lenses is they often share the same lens ID. If it’s a fast f1.4 prime you’ll likely need some micro adjustment to get the best out of it. If you have two sigma lenses which need significantly different adjustments settings then you have to remember to make the adjustment each time you swap between them (to get the best out of them anyway).
