(SR4) UPDATED: Sony A700 successor at PMA!
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Check our live-coverage post for latest rumors!
You asked it and Sony answered you! On Sunday (yeah PMA starts this Sunday!) Sony is going to announce the A700 successor. The A700 successor is a camera you can’t compare with other Alpha cameras! It is the first Sony Alpha camera which records video! And not that crappy video you have seen in other cameras. I was told that the A700 successor will outperform every other Canon-Nikon camera (like the recently announced Canon 550D/T2i
.
Keep following us! We will continually update you with latest rumors and the official Sony PMA news.
UPDATE: I was told that Sony could show one more Alpha camera on PMA…

. Thank you very much for this rumor. Great work. A new 700 with new better design an handling and waterproof solid would be groundbreaking.

hmmm….It is not satisfactory at all.

3 years ago |Well… I hope video recording is the new function but an advance generation. Any new function for photos?, just buy the A900, still an awesome camera.

3 years ago |Yawn… I use both video and an A700 for work and the last thing I want is the two in the same camera. I want an SLR that takes great pictures and nothing else. Sorry Sony but if that’s all you can offer I will be considering alternatives.

3 years ago |wow this is a surprise. from what i read earlier i thought the a700 successor was going to be announced later in the year.
Hoping this wont be a disappointment *fingers crossed*
and also excited to see what other gear is announced – more lenses!

3 years ago |Hashbrown, don’t be silly, Go ahead and “consider the alternatives.” Ops, but there are no alternatives! All others already have the video. Only stinking Sony was lagging behind. I really hope this rumor is true. It’s been a very long and painful wait!

3 years ago |I love you sonyalpharumors.com !!!!!!!!!!!! This is great. Even though I already bought a a500, I am very happy for this news so that more people can invest in the Alpha system, we will have more stuff to play with. I just hope that Sony has a everything camera. That means not sacrficing other important features just for video.

3 years ago |I hope it’s still an APS-C DSLR with a nice big OVF, decent burst rate, buffer and autofocus
…go for it, Sony!

3 years ago |AL – my alternative will probably be an A900 or 5D. If this new 700 is a great new camera that happens to have video then that’s fine. It’s just the post suggests that video is the only really new feature. I’d prefer the focus to be on still-camera features.

and keep the good design of a700 in the new successor.

But I am little scared if the movie capability will make impossible to shoot infra photo, which I really enjoy (with “old” Pentax istDs) and hoping to shoot with my new camera. As someone pointed to a900, its great camera, but I am not sure if I am ready for FF yet.
Id like fast and precise autofocus, aps-c with great ISO performance – usable 6400 will be great, maybe little smaller body.

3 years ago |Eat this Sony whining skeptics, did you really think Sony didn’t know what they were doing? One step closer to be the #1!. In some aspects they already are too.

3 years ago |Not all people asked for a A700 successor with video. As many I don’t like video on a photographic tool.
Sony guys (if you have somebody reading this website): There are people out there that thinks “photography†100%, not video or hybrids. So here is my request for you guys: A great APS-C photographic only camera (I don’t mind the name), very compact and unobtrusive, very fast and silent, with outstanding ISO capabilities and a very strong construction (not as cheap as the A550), 12 or 14 megapixels it’s enough. Recently I bought for fun a Leica IIIf (1954) and wow… that was a real camera for those years!… what a pleasure to handle it! But as many I can’t work only with vintage equipment intended for another kind of photography and I need a pro-digital camera (I don’t need it in full formant… that’s too much) with excellent quality/price relationship because I don’t have the money for hyper expensive modern equipment that by the way I don’t like (generally it’s so bulky… that makes me sick). For that I’m sure you could do better than Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Leica, etc… it’s your style. I thing you understood the “funny†phenomenon that is going on on the market: as you big camera makers, make more and better cameras for all people, there is less need for professional photographers, so, how can a modest pro photographer pay for expensive stuff?
I have already a nice Zeiss lens, now I need a fabulous Alfa body… A1000 or whatever! I’m ready to pay a fair price. But please, think as the older Leica brothers: a camera for life… but not forgetting (as they do) that the majority of photographers are not so rich people.

3 years ago |Wow… The time has arrived… Surely Video is a good feature, but I think much more the successor of A700 as my replacement for A100: after 3 years of good photos, I need more…
I’m wondering on CMOS Exmor-R (or -X) sensor, with no more than 14MP… APS-C format preferred.
Not interested in liveview, mirrorless, or compact body. Interested instead in good and quick autofocus, better stabilization and good materials. I’m ready to spend for the body up to 1500 Euros.
I know Sony is great in these things… I think it will be a very good mix-up of improvements and old features. I think that as sensor on A550 and as sensor on my father’s handycam (CMOS Exmor-R is fantastic!), the new sensor will be stunning… bye bye Canon and Nikon
