(SR4) Sony A7xx to come by end 2010?

So, finally I moved in in my new house and I have Internet connection again
I just checked my emails and I have a bad news and a good news (good news wins!)
BAD news: Sony original plan is (or was) to release the $loc = $_SESSION['geoip'];

{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A700 }
if ($loc == 'ES')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A700 }

{?>Sony A700 } ?> successor by early 2011! We already know that it will have the new EXmorHD sensor and have 18+ Megapixels. But we also have a..
GOOD news: It seems that many people inside Sony made pressure to anticipate the A7xx release as soon as possible. We now have a good chance to see the new camera by end 2010! If all works best Sony should tell us by Photokina when the A7xx will be on market. Let’s hope guys!
P.S.: In my opinion the $loc = $_SESSION['geoip'];
if ($loc == 'GB' OR $loc == 'UK')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A700 }
if ($loc == 'ES')
{ $sel = "1"; ?>Sony A700 }

{?>Sony A700 } ?> is still an awesome camera so if you don’t need any video go for it!

2 years ago |Andrea, you are not implying the the A700 successor will not be an awesome camera, are you?
So 18+ mpx, word at Photokina as to release time? with an announcement maybe by the end of the year? or release? Based on what you have previously said, I have been assuming an October or November announcement.
It sure would be nice to get that announcement in plenty of time for Christmas.
admin
2 years ago |Hi Dulaney! The A700 successor will be an awesome camera…don’t worry
I hope Sony will announce the camera at Photokina and make it availbale by end 2011. That would be the best possible scenario. But I didn’t get any reliable info about the announcement period.

2 years ago |I think A550 will be very interesting with the recent price drop. Now you can but body only for as little as $550. I think by the time you buy A7xx, it would be a very able second body.
Myst
2 years ago |The release date was very predictable…but 18mp… that is something different most people expected (including me) the same 14mp sensor as in the Nex5/3.
With this new 18mp diffraction wins another half a f-stop…

2 years ago |Hi Myst. I heard that Sony has some sennsor options. 14, 18, 24, 28 megapixel sensors (some of them are beta-versions). The 18MPX sensor has the highest chance to find his way inside the new A7xx.

2 years ago |I’d have the A700′s pentaprism viewfinder, body and ergonomics over the A550′s any day of the week. Used A700′s are bargain prices.

2 years ago |Andrea, I believe that you said the the A55 would have a 16 mpx sensor, didn’t you?
Working from that, I assume that the A5xx cameras will have 14- and 16-mpx sensors, and that the top A7xx camera (assuming for the moment that there are two) would have 18 mpx.
But 24- or 28-mpx? Is this thing an apsc camera?

2 years ago |The A7xx probably still won’t give as good high ISO as Nikon D5000/D90. I really wish Sony would nail this issue and silence the critics.

2 years ago |I would like an A7xx FF, same or smaller size than the current one and 1500$.

2 years ago |Hi Andrea, thanks for the info.
Sure Sony might have more sensors in the pipeline cause the company makes sensors and they do a lot of research and development in that area. But in all honesty i expected 14mp not 18mp, maybe it’s a way to sway people to buy into the sony system instead of choosing canon’s 7d, but as i said my main concern with 18mp is that diffraction will come into action a bit faster than with 14mp, and the perfect limit between diffraction and mp count is at about 14mp +- 1, for APS-C of course.
Now if the 24 and 28mp sensors are for APS-C that’s just insane…

Indeed. I guess Sony are looking at the mpix of rivals and saying they need to go one better. The marketing lot in Sony are probably looking at the compact market and how mpix sells cameras.
Like I said, my fear is that more mpix spells trouble for good high ISO capability, maybe Sony should start reading reviews and give people what they want instead of what Sony thinks they should have.
All they have to do is make a camera that is better and cheaper that its nearest rivals, something that reviewers will love and simply can not fault. Not introduce gimmicks like a higher mpix count. Good reviews sell cameras and canikons are killing Sony in reviews. It’s not rocket science!
Myst
2 years ago |Yup it’s a marketing gimmick, and for most people mp are the only thing that matter, but for the people that buy a semi-pro camera a lot of things matter and they should focus on what those people want.
higher mp count doesn’t necessarily mean worse ISO, if you print then a 12mp image will have roughly the same noise as a 18mp image (if the same sensor is used and the same technique to get rid of ISO), but if you look at 100% crops the sure, the iso gets worse with the increase in mp, but i usually care about how images look on the computer screen and in prints. As I said before my once concern is diffraction and that is because i plan on doing some macro work where you need to use small f numbers to get the DOF you need, but with higher and higher mp count images will be softer and softer at small f numbers.
Well i guess i will have to wait and see how the new a7xx turns out and then decide between it and the a850.

If an availability by the end of two thousand and eleven is your best possible scenario, don’t ever disclose your worst

The Klingon Kingdom invades the earth and forces everyone to buy Canon only

2 years ago |Am I the only one worried that it sounds like Sony is rushing this? I’d rather have a perfect camera next year than a faulty one this year.

2 years ago |Diffraction is way overrated. 18mp APS-C will be just fine.
Rob
2 years ago |I’m looking forward to seeing how HDR evolves. Currently, I’m always working hard to overcome strong contrast in daylight scenes and HDR has great promise to resolve those issues. Also, since you would be shooting dark areas to be much brighter without burning out light areas, you’d get much lower noise – so the iso question would be largely answered.

I wish It will be September =O
I want that camera now ! >_<

2 years ago |Well, well, Bravo! to those within Sony pushing the need to get this replacement out to the market.
It’s been a gaping huge hole in Sony’s line-up for way too long.

2 years ago |The A-700 is an awesome camera that i use almost every day. , that’s wy we are so anctious on a new version, to replace the oldest A-700 ‘s
Newer models like Nikon 300D and Canon 7D may have more pix and better noise algorithms in JPG, but in RAW (the real thing) the are no better than the 3 Year old A-700 design.
Te A-550 is compared to the A-700 very plastic and missing pro functionality.
Sadly the new 7xx wil look like a Nikon and wil lose the charismatic looks like the A-700 and A-900. It properly will have HD movie shit, witch i will never use. And a lot of scene shit on the program dail, that i will never use either. (only use M,A,S)
I’m hoping for a 100% viewfinder, more AF points, better lowlight (RAW) performance and direct preset (MR 1 to3 ) selection on the program dail, like the A-850 and A-900.
My opinion is that Large APS-C CMOS sensors like Sony uses and the HAD CCD have the future, And that the so called “full frame” wil vanish in time. On the long run only APS-C reporter style camera;s and Digital mid format studio camera’s will survive.
Futher more smaller sensors mean smaller refraction angels meaning lenses can be better, smaller en lighter. (see Zeis tech documents)

2 years ago |Then what’s happening to a950 ?
End of 2011?
If they don’t preview it @ Photokina,
5Dmkii it is….
nate
2 years ago |which ever company comes out with a new 1000 dollar camera first between sony and canon will get my purchase. the race between 60D and A5xx is on
Dude
2 years ago |@Ruhsmore
What logic is that?
If there is a preview of A950 on photkina you would wait till 2011/2012 for final release?
And than you wonder if the 5D mkIII wouldn’t be a better choice?
Buy the 5D mkII now if you like it.
But be aware that it also is far from perfect.
In many factory not ahead or even below the A850.
Only video is the decision maker towards it.
If you expect better high ISO and AF system than A850/A900 take a look at the D700…

I have been secretly wishing this was the case only time will tell?
@ JB New leses would be good to see as well!
I have been looking at the 7D for a while now, I will wait untill photokina, if there is no substantial news like a definate release date and price with features then I am still off to the darkside!

2 years ago |How will this long awaited model compare with the likes of the Nikon D3X? I am aware that the D3X is in a high top-end professional price league, however the D3X was released in 2008 one would have thought that modern mass prodution & technology improvements would reduce manufacturing costs to enable more modestly priced DSLR’s to catch up, particularly as the D3X showed a way forward as far as picture quality, Low ISO etc.

2 years ago |when can we expect to get some real or rumored specs on the a7xx? Will it use the same batteries and card as the a700? as i will keep my a700, would hate to go to the extra expense and trouble of having two of everything. as the a500/550 have greatly improved noise control and higher iso (usable), what can we expect with the a7xx? i am a wildlife photographer and my expectations lean heavy in these directions. these are 2 of a thousand or so will wait to hear.
thanks for keeping us informed
