(SR5) First Sony A77 and A65 price leaks!!!

Ylovephoto.com found that french A77 and A65 leak at the bottom of page 36 in Réponses Photo (a french magazine). Those are the leaked info and prices:
- Sony Alpha 77 + 16-50mm f/2.8 SAM = 1800€
- Sony Alpha 77 body only = 1050€
- Sony Alpha 65 + 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM = 1000€
- Sony Alpha 65 body only = 900€
What do you think about the price? It’s damn close to what we told you months ago (Click here to read our rumor)! That’s less than the main competition:
Check Canon 7D price at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
Check Nikon D7000 price at price at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
We also told you the lens would cost $799 (in Euro it will be 750). The lens itself costs much less than the counterpart lenses:
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 USM IS costs around around $300 more at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
Nikkor AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 $ is twice more expensive! Check at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
Both cameras will be announced in late August. Happy with the price???

11 months ago |The magazine doesn’t say anything about SAM on the 16-50mm 2.8 lens. It says ‘Quality’ lens. The ‘Sam’ apparently has only been inferred on the 16-50mm 2.8 lens. The 18-55mm lens of course is the already existing ‘SAM’ kit lens.

11 months ago |I have to say that I’m pleasently surprised with the price of kit. That is very competitive, and if the new lens is good than it’s price is good too! Can’t wait to try it.
To be honest I think next years G lens for nex will probably be this one but with OIS, so hopefully it’ll be good.

Dan K
11 months ago |SAM stands for “Smooth Autofocus Motor”. it’s one of two sony lens-based autofocusing systems (the other, and generally superior system being “SSM”). older lenses rely on the autofocus motor in the camera body.
Ricardo
11 months ago |SAM – Smooth Autofocus Motor; SSM – Super Sonic Motor.

11 months ago |900 € for the A65 and 1050 € for the A77 ?
I was expecting the A77 to be 1000 € and the A65 around 800 €, hoping for 750 €.
The price difference of only 150 € (body only) between A65 and A77 seems too small. If the price difference is that small, what’s the point in having the A65 ?
I thought the A65 was going to have several features missing, cheaper body, less buffer memory, buttons/dials missing, … combined with an overall lower price (about 250 € less).
Now you can have the A77 … or the A65 which is nearly as good and costs nearly as much :-/
When do you think the street price of the A65 will hit 750 € ?
Jennzhen
11 months ago |It’s similar to NEX-3 and NEX-5. Price difference was not big, but some people still bought NEX-3 wasn’t it …
Renato M.
11 months ago |yeah, but in that price range, that kind of difference makes difference. when you talk about 1000$ range it’s another story.
Jennzhen
11 months ago |Price difference between NEX-5 and 3 was about $100 (~15%).
Price difference between A75 and A65 will be about $150 (~15%).
Whether you look at $ or %, it’s quite similar.
People buy the lower model if they prefer to save $ or don’t need the additional feature.
People buy the higher mode if they prefer better feature and willing to pay more.
knurd
11 months ago |I agree. If anyone can afford the a65 then why not spring the extra $150 for a much better camera. They’re probably expecting the a77 to be constantly out of stock so people will have to buy the a65. Happened with the a33 and a55.
E
11 months ago |That is exactly why a65 is there: To make the a77 look good.

11 months ago |MSRP of A900 is about 2x A700.
So can we loosely predict that the price for A99 will be 2x A77, so around $2000?
That will be something to celebrate
(better than $3000 in the fake rumor)
Myst
11 months ago |might be, cause the prism viewfinder was very very expensive in the a900 and quite expensive still in the a850, i would love to see a low ranger a88 at around 1500$ that would pun a dent into canikon’s sales
lollo

A33 – A55 – A700
And now their successors:
A35 – A65 – A77
599 € – 899 € – 1049 €
Now I’m telling you a secret … but you have to promise you won’t tell it to anybody else !
Sony is going to release the A45 along with the A65 and the A77, price will be 749 €.
But psssshhhh! don’t tell anyone.
Stageshadow
11 months ago |Yes the price is less than the canon and nikon counterparts,
but both use usm/swm (ssm counterparts) and the canon also have a built in Stabilizer!
I think its a aps-c variant of the sony 28-75 2.8 sam, that would fit the bill.
AS
11 months ago |The price of the Sony 16-50 lens is very high if it is a SAM lens, especially when man can buy the marvelous Sigma 17-50mm with constant f/2,8 at $669.
Anyway, the price of the A77 body is just right and I thing will make a good couple with the Sigma 17-50mm.
sleekdraft
11 months ago |wait a minute, is the vertical grip included on that price? is the vertical grip built-in or detacheable?

11 months ago |no reason to believe so, as usual the vertical grip will be an additional extra and a luxurious price for a few buttons and a battery clip
SonyA77
11 months ago |Fortunately it will not take too long to get cheap clone grips from China on eBay
As much as I like my genuine A700 grip, I wouldn’t buy a genuine one again at four times the price…
Stageshadow
11 months ago |The price of the 28-75 isn’t that cheap with a ~ € 800 price tag.
So i think the 16-50 would be priced in a similar price range.
and the sigma?
Hope you get a good one…
Their quality control isn’t that great!
Clifton
11 months ago |These are roughly what we expected, but is there any reason to think that the magazine isn’t doing exactly the same as us? maybe even using the same data and putting their angle on it? Afterall is says approx, which would indicate just that.
I really hope that Sony will price their cameras competitively but there is a chain of thought that a lot of manufacturers follow that usually means high price = high quality. I wonder if Sony set their prices of their mid range models to attract current brand devotees to upgrade, undecided purchases to buy sony or to attract current canikons to jump ship. At the semi pro range I think its the upgraders that are the main target and as such, importance on price isn’t paramount, especially when some people have been waiting 3 years+ for something new.
Just bring the damn thing out and make it knock my socks so far off it takes me a month to find them! I’ll cash in a kidney, come on!

11 months ago |Rob … dude no one puts up a silhouette when they dont actually have a picture. If they had, there would be a pic. I am sure D7000 will share the same stick photo [silhouette] as well
R0B
11 months ago |no its the fact that when you put one of the silhouettes over the other in photoshop, they match up PIXEL TO PIXEL, make both silhouettes perfectly black and youll see it is the exact same thing.
It would be impossible for such a match of the two pictures to happen like that on a photo of a piece of paper, all Im saying is those silhouettes on the page have been done in photoshop, and there was probably something in their place on the actual piece of paper

11 months ago |SSM should be standard on every lens Sony makes moving forward.
If Sony plans on charging ~$800 for a 16-50mm f/2.8, it should be SSM, period. A great camera body is wasted with a sloppy focusing system like SAM.
Rob
11 months ago |How much is a CZ 24-70 f/2.8 SSM in your neck of the woods? It’s more than double $800 here (actually, about $1800). I guess there’s going to be less/smaller glass in the 15-50 f/2.8, but realistically, what can you expect for less than half the price of the CZ? The 28-75 f/2.8 with SAM is around $800 – which is a better comparison in terms of price and performance. Also, how much is the CZ 16-80 f/3.5-4.5 where you live? It’s a screw-driven autofocus lens – it costs ~$800 here….. So I ask, what do you expect from the new lens given that it’s ~$800? Let’s be realistic and note that all the Sony and Zeiss lenses with SSM and 2.8 cost between $1800 and $2100. You can ask for it an SSM at f/2.8, but I honestly don’t think you’re going to get it. Time to get another job, or give up smoking or find some other way to boost your toy/tool budget!
SRL
11 months ago |Gary,
I don’t think Sony has a SSM lenses under $1,400 USD and that’s on a “G” lens
Sigma sells a 85/f1.4 with its version of SSM for about $900 USD
So, I don’t see Sony marketing a lens using SSM at a price you are willing to pay.
Maximus
11 months ago |The Sony 70-300 G SSM is about 800$, so same price as the new 16-50
David
11 months ago |Hmmm – £842/900€ for D7000 body and 1000€ for the kit…arguably more useful for a good amateur…shame – had been waiting for 6 months for the Sony but…

11 months ago |SAMs are crap. There, I said it. I have several SAM lenses and it’s no way to go through life, Son. But, I believe the Sony/Zeiss 18-50 will come with SSM, it’s whole reason for being is to compete on the video front. Sony isn’t interested in the new, quiet M43 lenses besting Sony’s lenses at video. Why do you think the 18-50 has a fixed aperture? The answer is video.
Sony builds the Zeiss lenses to Zeiss specs. No one out there thinks our ZAs were made in Germany do you ? If a lens is a kit lens, it is cheaper because millions of them are made, this concept is called ECONOMY OF SCALE, the per-unit cost is lower because the volume is higher. So, yes they could sell the 18-50 for $500 if they wanted to and give it SSM. It’s a Sony lens with the word Zeiss emblazoned on it. There of course is some fee kicked to Zeiss for use of their name. Cosina has had this same kind of cozy relationship with Zeiss in the past. Most true Zeiss lenses made in Germany are ones 95% of the public couldn’t afford new. It cost a ton to pay those German workers and the Social Democracy takes/benefits. Hey but the ZA line has lovely lenses, don’t get me wrong.

11 months ago |If I like the new EVF, I will stay with Sony
(I dont like the EVF on the A55 very much).
Sigma has some nice lenses with ultrasonis motors in case this new lens has SAM or is to expensive.
€ prices compared to $ are terrible.
If I dont like the new EVF, the Nikon D7000 looks ok.
Ian
11 months ago |Sorry I am new to Sony kit but am waiting for the A55 successor – is that the A65?
Also, not being well up on the lenses I find it hard to understand these prices. If the A77 body is 1050€ but with lens it is 1800€, what makes this 16-50mm lens worth 750€? It seems a lot for a kit lens. The lens on the A65 works out as 100€ and it is also a SAM lens.
You don’t normally see kit lenses of this value in a package do you? It makes me think the pricing is not quite right.
I would welcome anyones take on this.
