2 years ago |I want to confirm about A77 video.
Is it 60fps or 30fps?
About one month ago, Alpharumors reported A77 video is 1080p/30fps.
It means sensor read out is 30 frame per second,
and file write out is 1080 progressive.
True 60p will be 1080p/60fps.
I hope 60fps read out, of course.
Anyway, I’ll buy A77 due to 24Mpixel and 12fps burst.
SO, I want to make it clear whether it is 30fps or 60fps.
Best regards.

2 years ago |The EVF is still a big leap feature. Lots of information in the viewfinder. Browseable menus in the viewfinder. A histogram. Gridlines. A preview of how the image will look before you take it.
That in itself is a fantastic feature. Plus the 12fps, 24mp on APS-C, (hopefully) great high ISO performance.
And yes, the video now equals other cameras – it’s still a very good thing as it can no longer be a legitimate criticism.

2 years ago |MP & fps are good enough leaps
But more leaps from A700.
Matt
2 years ago |God, why do so many people believe that Nikon and/or Canon have 1080/60p in their current SLRs? They don’t, period. Going to 60p is more than doubling the processing requirements and doubling the frame rate, that IS a big deal.
a77 and it’s counterparts VG20 etc will have the best video on the market short of an FS100 (which has a video / cinealta optimized sensor). The ONLY thing Canons will have going for them in video stakes will be a higher bitrate (though more poorly compressed) and possibly better low light in the 5D due to FF (but hardly a fair comparison as a77 competes with 7D).
Mike
2 years ago |Interesting. Is the the first time that Sony actually markets one of their dslrs as being weather sealed? From what I’ve gathered, they have weather sealed their full frames but they haven’t marketed any of the cameras as weather sealed. None of their lenses are marketed as weather sealed, that’s for sure.
SonyA77
2 years ago |Dust and moisture is not the same thing as weather sealing.
Mist
2 years ago |What are the differences?
SonyA77
2 years ago |Weather sealing means that the manufacturer claims the camera is protected against the elements, heavy rain and the like.
With moisture sealing, the manufacture makes no such claim. They state that the camera has better dust and moisture sealing than a camera that has non at all.
With a dust and moisture sealed camera, I would not use it in anything but the lightest of rain. That’s the difference. The A77 is not “weather sealed” it is only dust and moisture.
It should be remembered that the A77 is nothing new, my A700 is already dust and moisture resistant.
pancanikonpus
2 years ago |fake weather sealed cam >< lol…
Steve Jones
2 years ago |There is a proper standard for the environmental protection of equipment, and it’s called the Ingress Protection Rating – IP rating. All these vague terms of weather sealing, moisture protection and so on are just so much marketing waffle without a proper definition. In practice, I suspect the IP ratings of almost all system cameras and lenses are modest (if they’ve been formally related at all). There are simply too many buttons, body opening and so on to reach really high standards.
So here’s a plea camera manufacturers, start using the IP rating scale so we know what we are buying and just what conditions we can use our equipment without risking damage.

First they need to fix the rolling shutter and resolution – than think about 120 fps.
Carl
2 years ago |I wouldn’t call 4k undesirable, though. 1080p displays certainly have their limits, especially at larger sizes, and the market will be moving be beyond that sooner or later. Not having to upsample all your videos when the time comes would be helpful.
It’s not like cameras today lack the resolution for it, the only limitation is I/O.

panny may be the 1st company to fix the artifats in filming and introduce video lenses.

2 years ago |Canon haven’t really innovated, they have sat on their Canon name and released what great APS-C exactly? A 60D that got absolutely panned by 40D/50D users and the 1100D and 600D which were yet again minor upgrades to previous models, well big deal…
They will reuse a tweaked version of the the same tired old sensor in a 70D and still be a generation behind the A77 and D7000.
Nikon appear to be keeping up, but Canon are in real danger of losing the plot.
Steve-S
2 years ago |@Futile:
While the a700 got “trumped” — and the “a750-or-whatever” (slR (not slT) a700-successor) got pre-empted (pulled from development before it even got announced!) — recall that Sony *HAS* brought out some game-changers:
* a100 – first 10MP below US$1000
* a100 – highest sustained data throughput below the fully-pro CaNikon models
* a100 – sharpest 10MP (due to weak AA filter)
* a900 – highest MP count of ANY dSLR – beating Canon and Nikon *BOTH*
* a900 – cheapest FF dSLR
* a850 – *new* cheapest FF dSLR
(ok, so Sony has lost the “cheapest FF dSLR” crown – they still *had* it for a while (and may yet win it back (albeit as a “FF dSLT” crown…))
What have aps-c resolutions been? 12MP, 14MP, 16MP, 18MP (currently the most aps-c MP’s you can buy, IIRC… Canon, isn’t it?). What’s next? 20MP, obviously (maybe 22MP, if you want to be bold-and-daring?).
But remember who Sony *IS*: the biggest *electronics* company in the *DIGITAL*SLR marketplace. I think we’re seeing Sony flex that electronic muscle… So yeah, I’m completely willing to believe that Sony has jumped a generation of aps-c resolution & fps buffer data-pipeline.
That “silence” you hear from the CaNikon camps? I suspect that’s the same silence you heard from Sony when the “a750″ (that had been rumored/leaked for a while) suddenly vanished from the rumorsphere… Canon and Nikon have realized that their soon-to-be-released models look distinctly under-spec’ed compared to the a77.

Andrew
2 years ago |Perhaps this video is Sony trying to explain why the a77 release kept getting pushed further and further back.
You see, Sony had taken the pre-production a77 to the beach to determine whether or not the camera was in fact dust and moisture protected. Distracted by the allure of the beach, the Sony techs decided they would rather build sand castles. This play time went on for hours and in the mist of all the excitement, they had forgot about the a77 laying in the sand and ended up leaving it behind.
They returned the next day to retrieve the camera, but ended up leaving empty handed, as it was high tide and the camera was no where to be found. Months passed with no sign of the camera. Sony thought all its hard work had gone to waste…lost forever into the sands of time(pun intended).
Lucky for Sony, just when they thought they would have to deliver the bad news to the public, the a77 was found. Fortunately a Canon 5DMK2 owner had decided to visit that same beach just the other day. In an attempt to prove that not only was his still image quality unsurpassed, but video quality as well, he decided comb the sands for some “super neat-o” (enter yawn here) shallow DOF clips.
To his surprise, he found an unfamiliar camera laying about. Being under the impression that Canon was the only company that made cameras, he was surprised to see this camera had a SONY logo. Having heard vague rumors that Sony had been fiddling around with top secret Make.Believe. technology, he decided to see if this strange non-canon device had any purpose. Upon lifting the a77 to his eye and pressing the shutter, he was shocked to hear and see that it did in fact work.
To sum up this nonsense story, Sony happily got it’s a77 back and the Canon user learned that there was a world beyond Canon…and to no surprise, now wants the Zeiss 135/1.8 that he had the pleasure of using that fateful day on the beach.
Ok, that is all

2 years ago |My thoughts for your commment..This camera is for the enthusiast, amateur and prosumer market…it isn’t intended for professionals, although I’m sure it will deliver results good enough for professionals to make money from it. That’s why they opted to don’t put CF support on a77. And of course, they think SD and Memory Sticks deliver same performance as CF cards. I don’t own a CF, but the bigger size compared to a SD or Memory Stick was getting to much room space that could be used for something else, maybe?
Terryfried
2 years ago |So where are Canon and Nikon Diferent? in last 18 months no one has suported the out dated CF. If anyone where to do it with a prosumer camera it would have been on the Nikon D7000. in Fact tests have shownthat it does not even get full speed out of a SDHC UHS-1 card. IF sony can top out a SDHC UHS-1 card it will efectivly have double speed cards.

2 years ago |so much about the fake shutter noise…
I have two BIG concerns about this camera:
1. Sensor overheating in video.
2. Auto Focus Noise on lenses!
really even with those “ultra silent” motors you can still hear the noise on video when using AF (on a a55).
If they don’t come up with something real stealthy in terms of AF noise, even if they throw 4K at 120 fps, it is going to be useless!! and in the NEX camp they don’t have a single good glass to show off.
If panasonic can come with something better performing in terms of low light stills I think a MFT is a better option for a video capable big-sensor camera.
Can any one tell about these 2 problems?
